Chapter 58 The Kid Next Door Has a Fever

Chapter 58 The Kid Next Door Has a Fever

"Money-losing stuff!"

The old lady continued to curse.

"Mom, how can you say that? Guyu is your granddaughter after all!"

The old lady was furious. "I told you, it's normal for children to have a fever. Just warm her up and she'll be fine tomorrow. You're crying like your parents are dead. Aren't you annoying?"

"If you don't sleep, others will!"

The woman tucked the child in, touched the child's forehead, and became angry. "Don't worry, I won't cry if you die. I'll even make some homemade firecrackers to celebrate!"

Tears welled up in her eyes and she tilted her head back to prevent them from falling.

The roommate spoke up to smooth things over, "Okay, stop arguing!"

Song Shuyan stood at the door and frowned as he looked at the child who was tightly pressed under two heavy quilts with only half of his face exposed.

"Can I go in and take a look?"

"Come in, come in!" the other women in the room shouted.

The other children in the bed also got up.

Song Shuyan took a look and saw three beds in the room. Two women and four children were sleeping on the big bed facing the door.

There were two beds next to each other. One of them was occupied by an old lady with gray hair and a mean look. There were two little boys sleeping in the same bed with the old lady.

On the other bed, a girl with a fever was sleeping, and her mother was sitting at the head of the bed.

"What is the beautiful sister doing in our room?" One of them looked up and asked his mother.

"Maybe he was woken up by your Aunt Jiao Xing."

The mother's face was full of fatigue. She pushed the child back into the quilt with one hand and said, "Go to sleep quickly. Once you fall asleep, your stomach will feel better!"

She was also very dissatisfied with Jiao Xing's crying. She was already not feeling well, and now she had to take care of the child. The child had been vomiting and having diarrhea all day, and now that the child had finally fallen asleep, everyone could take a break.

She cried so loudly that she woke everyone up. How could it not be annoying!

Song Shuyan walked straight to Jiao Xing's bedside, leaned over and touched the child's forehead, but withdrew his hand immediately because of the burn.

Oh my god!

She looked at the child's mother with sympathy. No wonder she was crying. The child had such a high fever.

She must be very scared!

Song Shuyan pulled back the quilt, but Jiao Xing quickly stopped him, "What are you doing?"

Song Shuyan continued to lift the quilt, speaking very quickly and skillfully, "Don't cover up the child's fever, you need to let her cool down!"

"If you keep covering her like this, her fever will only get worse!"

Jiao Xing was at a loss, and wanted to put the quilt back on the child, "You're talking nonsense!"

"Since we were little, we have to cover ourselves up and sweat when we have a fever!"

"Yeah, Song Zhiqing, who doesn't cover themselves up when they have a cold and fever?" The woman in the next bed interjected.

The child's grandmother turned over and covered her head with an old piece of clothing, pretending not to hear anything and not to see anything.

Song Shuyan smiled coldly, "When I told you that the broth was poisonous this afternoon, you didn't believe me either."

"How are you now?"

"If she keeps covering it up, she'll be burned to a pulp at best, or even killed at worst."

Jiao Xing was stunned for a moment.

After she came to her senses, she held Song Shuyan's hand as if she had grabbed a life-saving straw, "Song Zhiqing, how can we get rid of Guyu's fever?"

"Change her sweaty clothes."

"Do you have any strong liquor?"

Jiao Xing hurriedly looked for clothes for the child to change. "White wine? What do you need white wine for?"

"Rub the palms of your child's hands and soles of their feet to cool them down!"

"If not, you can just apply a wet towel to the child's forehead."

Jiao Xing changed the child's clothes and said hurriedly, "The captain should have some white wine at home. I'll go ask him for it!"

She was in a hurry, "Oh, I'll go get some water and apply some water to the child's forehead."

The old lady turned around and frowned at the child who was only wearing thin clothes. He had a fever, but he didn't cover himself with a blanket. How could this be allowed?

Seeing the child's hands and feet trembling, the old lady frowned even more. Look, Guyu is so cold that he is shivering!

Could it be that her confused daughter-in-law really believed Song Zhiqing’s lies?

Song Zhiqing is so young and has never raised a child, what does she know!

The old lady couldn't bear to watch it any longer, so she got out of bed, walked to Guyu's bed, picked up the quilt and covered Guyu with it.

Song Shuyan hurriedly stopped her.

"Auntie, what are you doing!"

The old lady's eyes flashed with ferocity, and she said fiercely, "I'm the one who wants to ask you what you want to do?"

"Do you want to freeze my granddaughter to death?"

Jiao Xing came back with a basin of water, placed it beside the bed, and pushed the old lady away, "None of your business!"

"I believe in Song Zhiqing!"

The old lady was furious, pointing at Jiao Xing with a trembling hand, "You! You! Humph! Don't regret it!"

Just ignore it!

It would be better if a little girl died!

Song Shuyan ignored the quarrel between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. She wet the hard towel, softened it, wrung it out and applied it to Guyu's forehead.

Guyu hummed comfortably twice.

"Mom, I want some water."

Guyu closed his eyes, pursed his dry lips, and shouted softly.

"Oh, oh, okay!" Jiao Xing was busy looking for a bowl and a thermos to pour water.

"Let me do it. Go and ask the captain for some white wine."

Song Shuyan half-helped Guyu up, took the bowl and fed her water.

Guyu drank half a bowl in one breath without even opening his eyes, then turned his face away and said, "I can't drink any more."

Song Shuyan helped her lie down, took off the slightly hot towel, soaked it in water for a while, wrung it half dry, and applied it to her forehead.

She touched the child's face and forehead, which were still hot.

She couldn't help but ask, "Don't you have any fever-reducing medicine? Who in the village has fever-reducing medicine?"

The old lady snorted coldly and refused to answer.

The woman in the next bed sighed, "Where's the medicine for fever? We all use folk remedies to reduce fever. Only the elderly in the village know how to do it. What herb do we chew and crush to apply to the forehead?"

Song Shuyan subconsciously looked at the old lady and asked doubtfully, "Auntie, don't you know how to do it?"

The woman in the next bed laughed. "There are no more than three elderly people in the village who know herbal formulas, and none of them live here. The road to the Zhang family's old house is a bit far. Jiao Xing wanted to go there just now, and you came over."

Song Shuyan burst out laughing.

She changed the towel several times. About half an hour later, Jiao Xing hurried back with a bottle of white wine.

She handed the white wine to Song Shuyan and asked anxiously, "How do I use it?"

She originally wanted to ask the village elders for some herbal medicine to apply on the child's forehead, but the team leader asked her to come back with some white wine while he went to get the herbal medicine for her.

The captain said this is called a two-pronged approach.

"Wait, I'm going back to get something."

Song Shuyan went back to the next room, rummaged through the drawers, and found a handkerchief.

I went back to the next room again, dipped a handkerchief in white wine, and wiped the child's palms and soles.

Jiao Xing looked at the pure white handkerchief and felt very sorry. Such a good handkerchief was used to wipe her child's feet?

Things are not going well with the captain.

He went to the Zhang family's old house, found one of the old men, and explained his purpose.

The old man glared at him and said, "Look outside, it's windy and rainy. Where can I find herbs for you?"

The herbs used to apply on the forehead must be fresh to be effective.

Zhou Jingshen walked out from the next room and said, "Tell me what the herbs look like? I can look for them."
