Chapter 59 Bitten by a Snake

Chapter 59 Bitten by a Snake

Zhou Jingshen was a light sleeper. When he heard the team leader say that a child in the village had a high fever and urgently needed herbal medicine to save his life, he naturally stepped forward without hesitation.

The old man was still not happy, staring and waving his hands, "No, this fever-reducing patch is my family's ancestral remedy, how can I tell outsiders like you!"

The captain's forehead throbbed, and he held back his anger as he spoke earnestly, "Sixth Uncle, it's already this time, and you're still fussing over this? Guyu has a really bad fever. If you don't do anything, what if he becomes mentally ill?"

The Sixth Uncle was as hard as iron, stiffening his neck and yelling, "It's not my child, why would I care so much?"

"Hurry up and leave!"

"Don't disturb my sleep!"

The captain was so angry that he couldn't speak, and his chest was heaving.

Zhou Jingshen took a step forward with a serious expression, "Sixth Uncle, do you think this is okay?"

"Just tell me where the herbs you need grow, and I'll bring you all the herbs from that patch. You can mix the medicine yourself."

“That way we wouldn’t know exactly what herbs we need.”

The captain's eyes lit up. This was a good idea. He advised, "Sixth Uncle, saving a life is better than building a seven-story pagoda. We live in the same village, and even if we break bones, we still have tendons. Guyu is your junior after all. Please be kind and save her!"

Sixth Uncle thought about it for a moment, then nodded reluctantly, "Okay then."

He mentioned several places in a row. "Remember? Pull out a few weeds from that patch and send them to me."

The captain was sweating profusely, his brain was stuck, he had to remember it quickly!

Zhou Jingshen said calmly, "I'll remember it."

He took a step with his long legs and was about to walk out.

The captain followed, "Wait, Comrade Zhou! I'll get you a flashlight."

On the way, the captain was holding a flashlight whose shell had long been rusted. Zhou Jingshen suddenly pulled him and pulled him aside.

"W-What happened?"

"There's a snake."

The captain took a closer look and saw a streak of water in the puddles quickly fleeing away from them. He breathed a sigh of relief and said, "It's okay. It might be a water snake. It's not poisonous."

Guyu opened her eyes drowsily and saw a sister who was as beautiful as a fairy sitting beside the bed, gently wiping her hands with a white and soft handkerchief.

This must be a dream.

She closed her eyes.

She felt itchy in the palms of her hands, and then in the soles of her feet, and she couldn't help but twitch her legs.

Song Shuyan smiled slightly, with a faint dimple.

She handed the handkerchief to Jiao Xing and said, "The child seems to be awake. If the temperature hasn't dropped, you can continue to wipe her."

After saying that, she yawned.

Jiao Xing held the handkerchief, expressing her gratitude and thanking him repeatedly.

Guyu lying on the bed squinted her eyes and peeked. Was it Song Zhiqing's sister who just wiped her feet?

Guyu was stunned.

Her feet are so dirty, doesn’t Sister Song Zhiqing dislike it?

Guyu was shy and embarrassed.

Bury your face in the quilt.

Song Shuyan went out to wash her hands. There was a large pool next to the patio. She picked up a wooden spoon floating in the pool and scooped water.

Rinse your hands.

Something slippery crawled up her legs. She had a bad feeling, her hair stood on end, and she looked down stiffly.

I almost blacked out.

She was horrified and screamed in disarray.

"ah!!!"

Zhou Jingshen, who happened to be picking herbs nearby, heard the sound, stuffed the messy herbs in his hand into the captain's arms, and ran to the ancestral hall with a gloomy face.

In a flash, he caught Song Shuyan who was about to fall down.

The girl in his arms was pale and looked pitiful.

He pointed at her leg, trembling all over, "Snake, snake!"

Zhou Jingshen looked down and saw two shocking tooth marks on her fair and slender calves, with traces of blood seeping out.

His heart sank and he glanced around sharply.

The snake that bit her was long gone.

Song Shuyan clutched his clothes tightly with her small hands and cried out in a sobbing voice, "My legs hurt!"

"Will I die?"

"Was it a poisonous snake that bit me?"

She was terrified and felt a little dizzy.

Zhou Jingshen hugged her hand tightly, then calmly lowered his head to comfort her, "Don't worry, you'll be fine!"

He carried her to the long bench in the main room and sat her down. He held her bitten calf and squeezed the wound hard.

Song Shuyan shuddered in pain and instantly regained consciousness. She looked down at her calf, which was pinched red by him, tears streaming down her face, and hit him a few times.

"What are you doing!"

"It hurts me!"

Zhou Jingshen felt a tightness in his heart and apologized repeatedly.

"Feel sorry!"

"This wound needs to be treated."

There were sounds of footsteps, and lights twinkled in several rooms on both sides.

Someone yawned and walked out quickly.

"What happened?"

"It's Song Zhiqing's voice!"

Many people came to the main room holding kerosene lamps or flashlights.

Zhou Jingshen looked up and explained, "Song Zhiqing was bitten by a snake."

A young man shouted, "Quick, go find Uncle Shi!"

"Yes! Find Uncle Shi, he can treat snake bites!"

“I’ll go, I’ll go!”

An older man came over and took a look. "The leg is swollen. Could it be a venomous snake?"

Song Shuyan tightened her grip on Zhou Jingshen's clothes, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Let me see!"

Many people gathered around.

Zhou Jingshen's face darkened and he looked cold. He calmly used his broad back to block her injured calf.

"Hey, Comrade Zhou, could you please move aside?"

Zhou Jingshen glanced coldly at the man who spoke. The man felt a chill down his spine, and took a few steps back.

The person standing behind him pushed him, "What are you doing? Why are you stepping back? You're stepping on me!"

The man smiled awkwardly.

The team leader ran in anxiously from outside with a bunch of herbs in his arms. When he saw a room full of people, he was stunned.

"What's this for?"

"Song Zhiqing was bitten by a snake!" A quick-witted young man kindly relayed the news.

"Uncle Shi is here!"

"Quick, quick, this way!"

Zhou Jingshen made way only when someone who could treat injuries arrived. Song Shuyan still clung to the corner of his clothes tightly, looking up pitifully, "I, I'm scared!"

Zhou Jingshen sighed, stood beside her without moving, lowered his head to comfort her, "Don't worry, I'll watch over you, I won't leave."

Everyone made way for Uncle Shi. Uncle Shi limped over to Song Shuyan and squatted down. His rough hands held her calf. Song Shuyan subconsciously wanted to hide.

"Don't move!" Uncle Shi scolded.

Zhou Jingshen stared at her held calf with deep eyes.

Fortunately, Uncle Shi quickly let her go. "It's okay, it's not a poisonous snake. You don't need to apply any medicine. Just wash it with clean water!"

Song Shuyan hesitated, "But, my legs hurt! And they're swollen!"

Uncle Shi cleared his throat and said, "Your swollen skin was caused by someone pinching you."

Song Shuyan raised his head instantly and looked at Zhou Jingshen with condemnation.

Zhou Jingshen turned his face away, not daring to look at her.

Blame him, he was too concerned and confused, and wanted to squeeze out the poisonous blood from her.
