Chapter 317: The Hand That Turns the World Upside Down

On the contrary, his every move and gesture seemed more calm, and talking to him was stress-free and just right, like a spring breeze.

When he wanted to ask her a question, he would just stop there. When she was not in a position to answer, he would just smile and change the subject naturally.

Chu Yiqing had never thought, or never dared to think, that they had such a relationship before. Even before they met, he thought it would just be a simple chat, but he didn't expect that they would chat for several hours.

She had felt a lot of jealousy and resentment as a girl, and often dreamed of the gnashing of teeth in the middle of the night. Now, when she heard him talk about his story with that woman and the difficulties he had faced over the years, she was surprisingly calm and indifferent. She didn't feel relieved, and she could even echo a few words and give some advice based on her own marriage experience.

Chu Yiqing turned over, lay on the pillow, and sighed: Age and time, it seems that sometimes they are good things.

He said he hadn't had a long chat with the woman in a long time.

Life was pretty good at first, but after we had a child, I had to wash diapers, cook, and do housework. I felt like I didn't get a full night's sleep. I argued with my wife about daily necessities.

Later on, they would quarrel over the smallest things.

That little thing might be that he didn't put something back where it belonged after using it, or he might have forgotten to buy soy sauce and vinegar on the way home.

He said it wasn't a big deal, and if his wife had just said it nicely, he would have done it right away. But that woman kept nagging him about that trivial matter. He didn't understand why.

As they quarreled, there were no more scenes in their lives of the two of them climbing the mountain with kerosene lamps in the middle of the night and shouting at the highest point.

The woman no longer had the patience to listen to him recite poetry and songs, and he no longer had the desire to exchange ideas with her.

See? So much like her.

Without Wang Haiyang's life, Chu Yiqing was just like thousands of ordinary people. She was actually just another shadow of that woman.

Chu Yiqing lay on the pillow and smiled again. She still remembered Wang Haiyang's stunned expression after she said that.

She hadn't expected that now that she'd heard all this, she wouldn't rush to belittle that woman. What a perfect opportunity, wasn't it? Make Wang Haiyang regret it, let him know how bad his choice was back then.

But, that was her truth.

They met again after so many years of separation. If they didn't tell the truth when they met again, there was no need for them to sit together and talk.

Maybe it was because she was too honest, the scope of the conversation became deeper and deeper, and she talked more and more.

She told Wang Haiyang that her blind date was very tacky and her marriage was very tacky.

After getting married, she felt very uncomfortable living in a strange big family with her parents-in-law, elder sister-in-law, and husband. Just when she got familiar with them, she finally knew where all the bottles and jars of oil, salt, sauce and vinegar were kept, and then people asked her in various ways whether she was pregnant.

She always felt that something was missing in her marriage.

Wang Haiyang immediately told her: What is missing is the knowing smile when the red veil is lifted on the wedding day.

What is rare is the moment when you want to eat something during pregnancy, and someone will ride a bike through the streets and alleys to find you and then hand the food to you.

What is rare is that after being married for many years, the topics they talk about have nothing to do with children, parents, or family members, but only with the relationship between the two people.

Yes, every word he said touched her heart. He was still the same as always, always able to see through her at a glance.

There was no passion, no surprise, only speechless discussion of right and wrong with Wang Jianan again and again.

Wang Jianan never knew, he thought he played a good role in family life.

In fact, what she cared about was not right or wrong. She had never been partial to him. She was even more disappointed than her mother-in-law.

There is a gap in my heart. I wonder if talking to you can fill it.

Chu Yiqing found talking to Wang Haiyang very stress-relieving. It was like being comforted by an older brother, just like the old days.

Like when she was a teenager and didn't get first place in the exam, a pair of white sneakers caught his eye. He squatted down, touched her head, and told her that it didn't matter, because he did worse than her.

Chu Yiqing was blaming Wang Jianan in his heart when Wang Jianan pushed the door open and entered the room.

"What were you doing?"

Chu Yiqing turned over and sat up, smoothing her ear-length hair.

"Class reunion. What's going on?"

Wang Jianan put his hands in his trouser pockets and looked at his wife's small red lips. He felt a sense of insecurity. His sixth sense played a role. He never cared about Chu Yiqing's appearance and actually said:

"Why are you putting on rouge and powder at a class reunion? Why don't you go home to make dumplings and cook? It's so tiring for me. I made four dumplings."

After saying that, Wang Jianan sat down next to Chu Yiqing and looked sideways at his wife's face. Chu Yiqing felt uncomfortable and blushed slightly. She said in a fierce voice:

"Look at your pants, there's still white flour on them. Wang Jianan, you're over 30, can't you pay attention to your image? You're not allowed to wear these tattered military pants, and you're not a soldier. Your family bought you so many pairs of trousers, why do you always wear them?"

Wang Jianan didn't care and slid down his trousers twice. "It's not that simple. I come here to make dumplings and work, and go down to the cellar to get radishes. Your family relies on me for all the dirty work. I'm dressed properly, so Mom wouldn't be embarrassed to order me around, right?"

Chu Yiqing muttered softly, "You picked up Xiaofeng's pants, but you didn't even fix the hem. Don't you know what you are? You can't wear anything like that no matter what I buy you. You're such a coward. No wonder you can't get promoted."

The last sentence hit Wang Jianan right in the chest. He had come into the house to persuade his wife not to talk back to his father-in-law all the time, and to ask her if she was hungry. If she was, he would take her out for a walk and just leave the child here.

This is great, you actually dare to mock him.

Wang Jianan lost his temper. He stood up and pointed his finger at Chu Yiqing's nose. "Chu Yiqing, you're going too far! Dad even said, have you ever comforted me since the notice came down? It's okay if you don't understand, but as a wife, how can you say that about me?"
