Chapter 2 Brother

"I'm just worried about you, Jian Ning. Listen to me."

I'm coming to your house to pick you up now.

Why don't we stay in the hospital and rest for a while? I've already paid all your medical bills, so you don't need to worry.

"Besides, you can't rest well at home alone. I'm afraid something might happen to you!" Miao Xin's tone was full of worry.

"No need, I need to rest. Don't call me again." Jian Ning said, then hung up the phone without hesitation and turned it off.

She rubbed her rumbling stomach, got up, and went to the kitchen. It had been over five hundred years since she'd cooked for herself. These novel range hoods...

Even with the original owner's memories in her mind, she still didn't quite know how to use it.

I reluctantly boiled some water and cooked myself a bowl of instant noodles, and I must say, it tasted really good.

She loved it after just one bite. It was bursting with beef flavor; there was nothing this delicious in her cultivation world.

After filling his stomach, he sat on the bed and began his cultivation.

The spiritual energy in this world is far too scarce. If she doesn't hurry up and cultivate some spiritual power, she probably won't survive long even in the apocalypse.

After working hard for most of the night, I finally managed to refine a wisp of spiritual energy and store it in my dantian. I was so tired that I didn't even know when I fell asleep.

I was woken up by loud banging on the door this morning.

"Jian Ning, I know you're in there, open the door for me right now!" The man outside said urgently.

"Who is it? Can't a person get any sleep this early in the morning?" Jian Ning covered her head with her hand, still feeling a little dizzy. She swayed out of bed and went to open the door.

The man outside pushed his way in, striding in as he spoke:

"Jian Ning, I haven't eaten all day. Hurry up and make me something to eat."

"No, it's so early in the morning, and I haven't even had anything to eat yet. You're a grown man with hands and feet, figure it out yourself." Jian Ning stumbled and leaned against the wall after being pushed by him.

She frowned and thought for a moment before remembering that this was her half-brother, Jian Anping.

He dropped out of school in his teens and spent his days hanging out with a bunch of hooligans. Whenever he ran out of money, he would come to her for it. Over the years, most of the money the original owner had earned from working had ended up in his pocket.

"Oh ho, Jian Ning, you've gotten quite bold, haven't you? How dare you talk to your brother like that?" Jian Anping turned his head, stared at Jian Ning, and sneered.

"You're twenty-five, not a child. I'm your sister, not your mother!"

Jian Ning stood up abruptly, feeling dizzy and uncomfortable, so her tone of voice was naturally unpleasant.

This person is the original owner's brother, and she won't tolerate him.

"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Did someone bully you?"

Only then did Jian Anping notice that Jian Ning's face was deathly pale, and he quickly came over to help her sit on the bed.

His rough, large hand touched her forehead, and he muttered, "No fever!" There was a rare hint of concern in his voice.

"It's none of your business, Jian Anping. Don't come looking for me again. If you're hungry, there's instant noodles over there. Cook yourself something and leave." Jian Ning said.

He turned over and lay down on the bed, silently beginning to mobilize the wisp of spiritual energy in his body to circulate throughout his entire being. Before long, the dizziness symptoms lessened considerably.

"You little brat, I'm your brother, what? You want to sever our family ties?"

"You need to know, Mom and Dad are gone. I'm the only family you have left in this world." Jian Anping muttered to himself, cooking three packets of instant noodles, and even leaving a bowl for Jian Ning.

He sat down at the table and ate in a few bites. He wiped his mouth with his hand, looked at Jian Ning lying on the bed, sighed, and took out a thousand yuan from his pocket and put it on the table.

"Jian Ning, I'm going out of town in a few days to do a big business deal. Keep this money for your rent."

"If I don't come back, don't look for me. Just pretend I'm not your older brother." After saying that, he opened the door and walked out without looking back.

After he walked away, Jian Ning sat up in bed and looked at the money on the table. Only then did she remember that Jian Anping was going with their boss to Jiang City to help someone seize territory.

During this brawl, he lost a leg. So when the apocalypse came, due to his physical disability, he only survived two natural disasters before losing his life. His fate was quite tragic.

Considering he left money, I couldn't just stand by and watch him die. No matter how much of a scoundrel he was, he was still quite good to the original owner's sister.

He strode to the balcony, opened the window, and shouted down, "Jian Anping, come back here!"

Within minutes, there was a loud knocking on the door.

"Jian Ning, do you want me to take you to the hospital?" Jian Anping's voice was somewhat anxious.

"Come in, I have something to say to you." Jian Ning walked over and opened the door to let him in.

"What's up? You're being quite mysterious?" Jian Anping strode in, pulled up a chair, and sat down to ask.

“I know what you’re going to do. How can you not go? Take this money back and give it to your older brother.” Jian Ning swiped the money on the table and stuffed it into his hand.

“No, my older brother said all the underlings in Jiang City have to go there, and I have an important mission, so I can’t refuse,” Jian Anping immediately refused.

"Brother, I want you to go back to your hometown today, sell the house, and use the money to rent a bigger house in this city and marry Sister Mengyao. She has been waiting for you for three years, and it's time to give her an explanation."

Jian Ning had to rummage through her memories for a long time to come up with this explanation.

"Xiao Ning, what's wrong with you today? Didn't you say you absolutely refused to sell the house in our hometown?" Jian Anping asked Jian Ning, somewhat puzzled.

"You don't need to worry about that. Here's the property certificate. You should leave today and get rid of it as soon as possible. Oh, and remember to bring me the jade pendant my mother left me. It's in the little box on her dressing table."

"Okay, then I'll tell my brother and head back." Jian Anping didn't know why his sister was in such a hurry to sell the house. Anyway, when their parents left, they gave her the property certificate for safekeeping.

Knowing he was a hapless and irresponsible scoundrel, I was worried he'd ruin the house. In the end, I wouldn't even have a home.

"Just make a phone call, don't go there yourself. Hurry up and come back quickly," Jian Ning said, giving him a push.

She seemed a bit anxious. Jian Anping didn't waste any time, picked up the phone, told the man on the other end, grabbed two hundred yuan from the table for travel expenses, and went downstairs.

Jian Ning stood on the balcony, watching his imposing back, and sighed.

Hopefully, he can avoid losing a leg this time and live a little longer in this difficult apocalypse. And Sister Mengyao, she's also a pitiful person.
