Chapter 312 Sending Someone Away

Jian Ning understood the people living in the Taoist temple on the mountain. It was freezing cold and there wasn't much to eat. These rats were fat and big, all meat, so they were perfect for satisfying their cravings.

Moreover, even in peacetime, there are people who catch rats and eat them, which is quite normal.

"Xiao Ning, when are you leaving? Do you need me to pack something for you to eat on the way? I'll cook some dumplings for you to take with you," Jian Anping said, standing up to walk outside.

"Brother, no need, I have everything I need. I'll leave right away, Lingfeng is waiting for me."

"I won't say hello to my sister-in-law and the others." After Jian Ning finished speaking, she strode out and returned to her own courtyard. Xiao Lingfeng then came out of the house.

"Is everything arranged?"

"Okay, let's go. My brother said he'll help look after Mom and Tian Tian."

With my brother around, I feel much more at ease. This time I'll see if there's anything he likes and bring it back for him.

Xiao Lingfeng figured that since he didn't have to spend any money, getting anything outside was basically like buying it for free.

It just takes a little effort to find it.

"I haven't noticed any particular hobbies in my brother. But he does like things like cars and motorcycles."

It's a pity it's the apocalypse now; the roads outside are completely impassable for cars. Otherwise, we could go out and get him a sled. Or a high-performance off-road vehicle would be fine too, to give him some fun.

Jian Ning thought this was a good idea. She would keep an eye on the 4S stores and see if they had any water-damaged cars suitable for her brother to drive.

The two men, carrying flashlights and talking all the way, soon arrived at the regimental headquarters.

Two people followed them: an elderly man with gray hair and glasses, quite tall, but so thin he looked emaciated, clearly starving.

The other was a soldier assigned to him by the army, surnamed Liu, named Liu Gang, whom Xiao Lingfeng also knew.

The two of them, carrying two bags, were waiting at the regimental headquarters.

Xiao Lingfeng and Jian Ning went inside, greeted the regimental commander, and received a handover document. Then the four of them came out together, found a spacious place, and Xiao Lingfeng took the helicopter out of his spatial storage.

It was estimated that this was the first time the old expert had ever seen someone with a spatial ability, and he stared wide-eyed in shock at the incredible scene before him.

"Mr. Wang, please go first. I'm quite good at flying, so don't worry, I'll definitely get you safely to the base in Beijing."

Xiao Lingfeng helped the old expert onto the plane first.

"Sister-in-law, you go ahead, I'll be last." Liu Gang also knew Jian Ning. Although she rarely appeared at the base, he had helped deliver things when Xiao Lingfeng got married. So he had seen her once from afar.

Jian Ning didn't stand on ceremony with him and stepped onto the helicopter.

The pilot was still Xiao Lingfeng, and he was flying the helicopter very smoothly.

After donning the helmet and pulling the control stick, the aircraft quickly ascended into the dark night sky. Using radar for positioning, it located the direction of Beijing and flew directly there.

Since he's only flying a regular helicopter, it'll probably take him about three hours to reach Beijing. If he were on a passenger plane, it would only take a little over an hour.

The fuel consumption for this flight time is just within the helicopter's tolerance range.

As soon as they took off, Xiao Lingfeng activated the cockpit's temperature control system. The air was even colder up there; he didn't want the experts to freeze.

"Young comrade, you're not a soldier, are you?" Now that he was warmer, Old Wang was in the mood for conversation and asked Jian Ning with a smile.

"No, this is my lover. I came here on this mission with him."

"You came out in a hurry, haven't you eaten yet? Let's grab something to eat first. It'll be a while before we get back to work." Jian Ning took out a bag of steaming hot meat buns from her backpack.

It was handed to Old Wang.

"Thank you. I haven't had such good white steamed buns in a while." Old Wang didn't stand on ceremony, taking one in each hand and eating them heartily.

These meat buns have thin skins and generous fillings. Old Wang couldn't stop eating them.

Jian Ning handed a few to Liu Gang, and took a bite herself. As for Xiao Lingfeng, she shouldn't eat any yet; he couldn't get any to eat right now.

After eating Jian Ning's food, Old Wang became even more amiable towards her. The two chatted about everything under the sun.

He's not just an expert, he's incredibly knowledgeable. He can explain why the climate has suddenly changed so drastically and the origins of polar night in great detail.

He had expertise in almost every field. This piqued Jian Ning's curiosity. Was this expert a meteorologist? Otherwise, why was the Beijing base in such a hurry to send him there?

Liu Gang sat to the side, remaining vigilant at all times, and never completely relaxed, even on the plane.

Xiao Lingfeng flew for an hour, found a city, and landed on the rooftop.

"Let's rest for a bit, and then we'll leave in half an hour."

"Comrade Xiao, thank you for your trouble. I feel really bad that you have to go through all this trouble for an old man like me."

"Old Wang, this is what we should do. Come on, let's go downstairs to use the restroom."

"Xiao Ning, don't get off the plane." Xiao Lingfeng stopped because he wanted Old Wang to go to the restroom or something; he had drunk quite a bit of water in the past hour.

Jian Ning nodded, and after they all got off the plane, she quickly returned to her spatial dimension.

I went to the restroom and grabbed an apple to eat. Grandma Wang is quite talkative; keeping her company must be tiring. It's better to let her quietly cultivate herself.

Emerging from the spatial dimension, he waited a while, but the three still hadn't returned, which puzzled him. Had they gone to take a dump? Why go through all that trouble?

After waiting a few more minutes, a sudden feeling of unease crept in. Without opening the cabin door, he used his wall-penetrating technique to land on the ground.

Surprisingly, it hasn't snowed here. The rooftop is spotless. I shone a flashlight on it, and the platform was completely empty; there wasn't a soul in sight.

Jian Ning wondered, "Does this man really have to go to the bathroom to use the toilet?"

There's no one here, and I can't find anywhere to solve the problem. If something happens in the dark in the building, it'll be hard to explain.

"Ling Feng, Xiao Ling Feng!" He shouted twice, but there was no response. He simply waved his hand to put the helicopter away and strode towards the door downstairs.

With a push, the door creaked open.

I shone the flashlight down. Still, there was no one there.

Instead of rushing forward, she focused her divine sense and called out to Xiao Lingfeng. This was a technique she had recently been practicing with him, a form of spiritual communication that allowed them to communicate directly with their closest friends regardless of distance.

"Ling Feng, where are you? Have you run into some trouble?"
