Chapter 344 What are you asking for?

"As long as it's better than living here, at least I won't be freezing. And the place is more spacious than the mud-brick house."

What more could ordinary people like us ask for? All we want is to have our own home, to be together as a family, and to live a peaceful and stable life.

Li Mengyao stays at home every day taking care of the children, unable to go anywhere, but she roughly knows that life outside is not easy. She can empathize with them very much.

"Go to sleep. The cave is fine. It's all thanks to my brother-in-law. If he hadn't had the cave blown up, we wouldn't have discovered this place."

They also provided many steel-structured prefabricated houses, so these people shouldn't expect to live so comfortably. I just don't know if they know how to be grateful.

I doubt it. People these days are so selfish. They only care about themselves. How many are as selfless as my brother-in-law?

Jian Anping actually guessed that the cave refuge must have been created by Jian Ning and Xiao Lingfeng.

They themselves were the only ones who truly understood their abilities, since he had now entered the path of cultivation. It's just that his skills weren't as great as theirs.

With just her physical strength, unlike Jian Ning who can use any kind of talisman and has no problem she can't solve.

"Yeah, we've benefited a lot from your sister and her family. Sometimes I think I'm really lucky. Even my mom has to admit that I have good taste."

Li Mengyao is also very content. Her husband treats her and her family well, and there are no elderly people in her husband's family who interfere with her.

There's absolutely no conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. The sister-in-law is so capable, she just helps them out financially and never complains. A family like that is hard to find even with a lantern.

The next morning, Jian Anping got up early and went to check on Jian Ji'an. He was already awake and his fever had subsided, but his lips were chapped and the water glass on the table was empty.

Upon seeing him approach, she called out "Brother Anping" in a hoarse voice, and tears immediately streamed down her face.

"Why are you crying? You're a grown man now, you should be able to handle things. It's just a snake bite."

"It's all over now, your sister Ning has cured you. I'll go get you some water, do you need to use the restroom?" Jian Anping picked up the water glass and was about to leave when she stopped and asked.

"Um, where's the toilet? I can walk here, right?" Jian Jian had actually been holding it in all morning, but hadn't dared to make a sound.

"Try it. If you don't dare to move, I'll carry you over." Jian Anping put down the water glass and helped him sit up.

"It doesn't seem to hurt as much anymore. Sister Ning's medical skills are truly amazing."

Jian Jian moved around a bit and felt that his buttocks were just a little numb and hissing, but not very painful. So he put on his shoes, got out of bed, and slowly moved to the bathroom.

After washing his hands and face, when he returned, Jian Anping had already brought him breakfast.

"You can eat in bed. Your aunt made noodles in chicken broth especially for you. It's nutritious and easy to digest. There's more in the pot. I'll get you some more after you finish eating."

"Thank you, Brother Anping." Jian Ji'an sat on the bed, holding a large bowl of steaming noodles, his eyes welling up with tears again.

It smells so good, and there's an egg inside!

It's not just chicken soup. There's also a big chicken leg in it.

This was considered exceptionally good food before the apocalypse, let alone now.

He couldn't get any of this at home. He was lucky if he could eat flour made from drought-resistant potatoes mixed with bok choy leaves twice a day.

“Eat up, can just looking at it fill your stomach? There are also pickled radishes here, all grown by your uncle himself. When you go back later, I’ll pack some for you. We don’t have much meat at home, but we still have these greens and pickled radishes.”

Jian Anping also knew that even with relatives, she couldn't give them too much.

If you get used to asking for things, it'll be a problem if they don't give you anything, so I didn't mention giving you meat or anything. We definitely don't lack vegetables at home. Taking some out to help my uncle's family is the right thing to do.

“Brother Anping, there’s no need to give us any food. We have hands and feet here, and we can earn our own food. There’s plenty of work to do at the base right now, and we have enough to eat.”

Jian Jian is no longer the clueless boy he once was; he can now support a family on his own.

I worked alongside the adults every day. I learned a lot about human relationships and social dynamics. The apocalypse is a world that forces people to grow up quickly.

"Don't worry about so much, you're just a kid. Eat up." Jian Anping didn't stay in the room with him. He said this and strode out.

Jian Jian lowered his head, picked up his chopsticks, took a bite of a chicken leg, and his mouth was filled with the aroma of meat. The chicken was stewed until it was very tender and flavorful. He chewed slowly in small bites, reluctant to eat too fast.

Five or six minutes later, Jian Anping came in and saw that he had only a little bit left to eat, so she took the bowl and filled it with a whole bowl of noodles for him.

"Eat up, then we'll leave. I have things to do today, so I'll take you home first."

“Brother, I can go back by myself. Why don’t you go ahead and do your work and don’t worry about me?” Jian Jian felt that she was already troubling him too much.

“You haven’t been able to move back all morning. Whatever you encounter on the way might have been taken by you. I have nowhere to turn for help. Eat quickly, I’ll go pack my things.”

Jian Anping came out with a woven bag, which was filled with a lot of dried vegetables, all of which were dried by his own family.

I had dried green beans, dried eggplant, and dried radish. The bag wasn't too heavy even when it was full. After hesitating for a moment, I went upstairs to get a chicken, killed it, and put it in the bag as well.

Then he took it to find Jane.

"Brother Anping, you don't need to take so much. You have a whole family too," Jian Jian said, looking at the bag in his hand. She was truly grateful.

“I can’t give you more, but I’ll kill a chicken for you to take home and help you recover so you can get back to work. Come on, I’ll carry you on my back, and you can carry this bag; it won’t be heavy.”

Without waiting for his refusal, Jian Anping handed him the woven bag, picked it up, and walked away. He was strong enough that such a small amount of weight was no problem for him.

They arrived at the shelter on the other side of the cave in less than twenty minutes. Their arrival didn't attract much attention; everyone was busy at home tidying up their new houses.

Nobody cares about what other people do.

Jianming was cooking inside the house, making potato pancakes to combat drought.

There wasn't a drop of oil left in the pot. I was still worried about my son and wondered how he was doing. I thought I'd go down the mountain to check on him after I finished eating.

"Dad, my brother brought me back. He also gave me a lot of food." As soon as Jian Jian entered the house, he couldn't help but shout loudly to him.

"Jian, you're alright? That's great! I told you yesterday when I came back that you were bitten by a snake, and it scared your mother so much that she complained to me all night. Anping, come and sit down, things are a bit simple at home."
