Chapter 39 Water-Repelling Talisman

Jian Ning quickly spoke to Jian Anping, but to her surprise, he disagreed with her going out.

"Xiao Ning, going out to find things is a man's job. You really don't respect your brother. You stay home and I'll go."

"No need for you, brother. Xiao Lingfeng is with me. You need to keep an eye on the security cameras at home and make sure the people downstairs don't break up here while we're not here."

After hearing what Jian Ning said, Jian Anping fell silent for a moment. Although he was reluctant to let his sister go out, the house really needed someone to look after it.

Just then, the walkie-talkie crackled to life: "Brother Jian, I need to go out with Jian Ning for a bit. Our elderly relatives are coming to your house later, so could you please take care of them?"

"Okay, brother, don't worry. Keep an eye on my sister too. By the way, the waters outside are too deep. How are you going to get out?"

“Jian Ning said she has a kayak.” Jian Anping was speechless after hearing Xiao Lingfeng’s words.

What's going on in my sister's head? Is she really preparing for the apocalypse?

He even bought a kayak, more than he had prepared himself. Although he already had a small one, he wasn't going to show it off now.

Soon after, Aunt Wang brought Tian Tian over, carrying a plate of mung bean cakes she had made herself.

Even though people can't get food outside, the grandfather and grandson are still living so comfortably. It's clear that Xiao Lingfeng has prepared quite a bit of food.

When Jian Ning came out with the kayak and a large plastic bucket to be filled with diesel fuel, Xiao Lingfeng was already standing at the door waiting for him.

He was holding the machete in his hand. When he saw Jian Ning come out, he smiled slightly and took the kayak from her.

"I can take this. Aren't you wearing a life jacket?"

“No, I’m not afraid of water, I can swim. Here, take this.” Jian Ning said, taking out a few talismans from her pocket and handing them to him.

"What is this? Do you believe in superstition?" Xiao Lingfeng took the talisman, examined it from all angles, and asked with a face full of curiosity.

"You don't know what this is?" Jian Ning was surprised. Had she guessed wrong? Or was he pretending?

"Yes, I don't recognize them. They look like talismans used for exorcising ghosts. What are they for?"

Xiao Lingfeng's humble and eager-to-learn attitude made Jian Ning unsure whether she should use these talismans in front of him.

After hesitating for a moment, I decided to tell him, "This is a water-repelling talisman. When you go downstairs later, if you use it, rain won't fall on you for three hours. Even if you fall into the water, you won't drown."

"So amazing? It works just like the water-repelling technique in Journey to the West?" Xiao Lingfeng's eyes widened slightly, his expression making him look particularly cute and endearing.

Jian Ning almost wanted to pinch him, but thankfully she still had some sense and controlled herself.

"Yes, it's similar to that. Xiao Lingfeng, you need to know that there are always some things in this world that defy common sense. Like this talisman."

You'll see if I'm lying once you use it. Let's go. Let's go downstairs.

Jian Ning walked ahead, using the keys to open all the doors. After the two of them got out, they locked them all again. They tossed the keys directly into their spatial storage. This was the safest place. No one could steal them.

Walking down the stairs, I didn't encounter many people. The tattooed man and his companion lived in the stairwell. The two of them walked very quietly, and with the door to the stairwell between them, you wouldn't have noticed them unless you were specifically listening.

Upon reaching the sixth floor and looking out at the murky floodwaters, Jian Ning took out an air pump and handed it to Xiao Lingfeng.

"You should do this heavy lifting. Keep your voice down."

Xiao Lingfeng nodded, picked up the air pump, and skillfully inflated the kayak.

Jian Ning was actually very curious about his profession, but she never asked. They were just temporary partners, so there was no need to know too much.

Xiao Lingfeng launched the kayak out of the window by himself. Jian Ning held onto the windowsill with one hand, jumped in, and landed lightly on the kayak without moving an inch.

It was as if it had no weight. This made Xiao Lingfeng raise his handsome eyebrows again.

He secretly admired her. This girl's skills were truly impressive; even female soldiers who had undergone special training couldn't reach her level.

Jian Ning had no intention of hiding anything from Xiao Lingfeng, whether he accepted it or not. After all, the apocalypse had arrived, and no one could interfere with her unusual behavior.

She's still keeping it safe, without using any spiritual power. If she were to fly on her sword, she'd probably scare everyone to death.

Xiao Lingfeng first handed all the buckets to Jian Ning, and then he also jumped onto the kayak, his posture naturally very cool.

The two sat one in front of the other, picked up their paddles, and Jian Ning adjusted the direction before rowing directly towards the gas station.

Jian Ning had a map of the surrounding area in her mind. Although she couldn't see the exact location, she was like a person with a GPS, and she didn't hesitate at all.

The entire city was submerged in water, and the streets were eerily quiet, save for the sound of two people rowing their boat.

"There's a gas station up ahead. Let's use the water-repelling talisman now. Shall we split up to find it, or go together?" Jian Ning looked at the water ahead, then turned to Xiao Lingfeng and asked.

"It'll be faster if we split up to search. We'll meet here in twenty minutes."

Xiao Lingfeng's words were exactly what she wanted to hear. "Okay, I'll go down first. It's too high up here. You can come down when we reach solid ground. Use the water-repelling talisman first."

After Jian Ning finished speaking, she took out a water-repelling talisman and slapped it directly onto her body.

Then she strode down. She used a lightness technique, otherwise, with a height of six stories and no water resistance, she would probably have been half-dead from the fall.

Holding the kayak in his hand, Xiao Lingfeng sat upright on it, having also cast a talisman on himself. He watched as the water seemed to split in two as if cleaved by a knife, then gathered again above his head.

Even Xiao Lingfeng's usually expressionless face showed a slight crack at this moment.

This was so illogical. At first, he really didn't believe that such a piece of yellow paper could have such a great effect, and thought that Jian Ning was joking with him.

The descent from the sixth floor was incredibly fast; in just a few minutes, the two of them landed on solid ground. "I'll go pump up the diesel fuel. What do you need? There's a convenience store over there; go get it yourself."

Jian Ning tied the kayak to a pillar at the gas station with a rope, picked up a plastic bucket, and started working.

Xiao Lingfeng had already accepted this reality. After getting off the kayak, he felt no mud under his feet. This water-repelling talisman was truly amazing.

I glanced at my watch, and without further ado, headed straight for the gas station entrance.

The doors and windows were tightly shut. Nothing inside was damaged. All the items were floating in the water. He smashed the glass door with two elbow strikes.
