Chapter 41: The Man's Wounded Feeling is Full of Devastation

Whisk wild eggs, add a pinch of salt, and steam until cooked; this makes a soft and smooth steamed egg custard.

The white radishes given by the villagers were cut into chunks and used to make a pot of light and refreshing hot soup.

The staple food was roasted sweet potato, which I had redeemed from the system before. It was big and very sweet.

Even when eaten raw, it tastes refreshing.

Throw them into the firewood pile, and the high temperature from years of burning tree trunks will roast the sweet potatoes until they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

In addition to its own sweet flavor, it also carries the aroma of firewood.

This is the advantage of a wood-fired stove.

Where are the others?

After finishing making lunch, I looked up and found that the man had vanished from the house and the yard.

Niu Niu replied, "They disappeared in a flash."

Chen Yunyun didn't interfere much; it was perfect, she could save herself a meal!

With no outsiders present, the children felt more at ease.

Enjoying the savory and spicy rabbit meat, followed by a couple of bites of sweet and fragrant sweet potato, and a bowl of radish soup when thirsty—it couldn't be more delightful.

I was having lunch when I heard a sound coming from the gate in the yard.

"They're here."

Chen Yunyun put down her bowl and went to open the door.

What are you doing?

Outside the courtyard gate, Zhang the hunter helped Tiger's mother and little Tiger, and the three of them knelt on the snow.

Zhang the hunter kowtowed first, "Zhijun's wife, I know you are capable, thank you so much!"

"From now on, in the entire Xu Family Village, if anyone dares to bully you or speak ill of you behind your back, I will never let them off easily!"

"Uncle Zhang, what are you doing?" Chen Yunyun quickly helped the man up. It was unbelievable that a man over fifty years old was kneeling before her.

Although there had been some conflicts before, she had retaliated in kind. If you really think about it, the Zhang family has learned enough lessons.

Zhang the hunter supported Tiger's mother, who was very weak. Her eyes were half-open, but they were bright and she didn't seem to be mentally impaired.

"this…?"

"Our ancestor said that now, of the three souls and seven spirits, except for one spirit which is lost, the rest have returned. In the future, he may just be a little slower in his reactions and have a poorer memory. Otherwise, there will be no other impact."

"It must be because the demon was exorcised that the soul returned." As he said this, Zhang the hunter noticed the blood all over Chen Yunyun's sleeves and clothes.

The tall man was about to kneel down again, "Young lady, I didn't expect you to be such an honest person. My family has wronged you so much for what happened before!"

"You deserved to be hit, we deserved to be hit too!"

Zhang the hunter kicked his son in front of Chen Yunyun, saying, "My unfilial son owes him a debt of gratitude to you for saving his life! My family owes you so much!"

"Ah, this..." Chen Yunyun was interrupted by Zhang the hunter before she could even utter a word of explanation.

"Kneel down and call her godmother!"

Tiger had lost a lot of weight. He obediently knelt down, hugged Chen Yunyun's leg, and cried out, "Godmother!"

Tiger, with snot and tears streaming down his face, cried, "Godmother, help! That monster is terrifying, waaaaah..."

He was just a child, and he was terrified when he saw that monster.

Why would someone of Zhang's high seniority call her "elder sister"?

She even wants to make her son her godmother?

The generations are all messed up!

Chen Yunyun rubbed her forehead, unsure of what to do.

"Uncle Zhang, there's no need for this. We're all from the same village, and I haven't really helped much."

Zhang the hunter was very firm in his stance. Although he was a mountain man and had a reckless nature, he still understood the principle of repaying kindness.

Tiger let out another dry wail, "Godmother, please accept me as your godmother! I'll never bully Da Wa and Niu Niu again!"

"I can take them to play together, and none of the other kids in the village will dare to bully them!"

Even the frail Tiger's mother kept a close eye on Chen Yunyun's reaction, afraid that she would refuse.

Unable to refuse, Chen Yunyun had no choice but to agree.

Chen Yunyun returned the money that Zhang the hunter had given her before.

Zhang the hunter held the money in his hand, remaining silent for a long while. "Since you don't want to accept it, I'll take it back for now. If you ever need my help in the future, please let me know."

Chen Yunyun called out to him, "Uncle Zhang, please keep my matter a secret."

Hunter Zhang naturally nodded in agreement, and upon returning home, he instructed Tiger not to talk nonsense.

Tiger nodded vigorously; he was now obedient to Chen Yunyun.

Chen Yunyun is amazing; she can defeat monsters and is incredibly strong.

He wants to become Chen Yunyun's apprentice and learn martial arts! That way, he'll be so cool when he fights!

After seeing the Zhang family off, Chen Yunyun returned to the dinner table.

After she left, the children stopped eating, put their food in the pot to keep it warm, and waited for her.

Da Wa rearranged the bowls and handed Chen Yunyun chopsticks, saying, "Mother, eat first."

Look at her three little ones, how well-behaved they are!

The thought of her newly adopted godson gave Chen Yunyun a headache.

If the child is ignorant, she won't show any mercy; she'll punish him if he deserves it.

After lunch, I changed out of my blood-stained clothes, washed them, and hung them up to dry.

The man who had disappeared for half a day has returned.

His face was pale, he clutched his chest, leaned against the wall and spat out a mouthful of blood, which landed right on the clothes Chen Yunyun had hung out to dry.

Good grief, all that work for nothing this afternoon.

"Hey, are you alright?"

Chen Yunyun stood some distance away from him and could only see that his lips were pale, as if he had suffered some serious injury.

Did something happen while he was gone?

The man did not answer her. He tried to support himself but stumbled and fell to the ground.

Chen Yunyun had no choice but to carry the person into the house, and once again marveled that her strength potion had not expired.

With the kerosene lamp lit, Chen Yunyun took off his shoes.

The dim light shone on the man's face, softening his features and making him appear even more frail and broken.

Even Chen Yunyun had to admit that this man was excessively handsome.

He seemed to be badly injured, his face was completely pale. Could it be that he had encountered the great demon mentioned by the system?

As Chen Yunyun thought about it, she unbuttoned the man's cotton-padded coat.

I don't know where he's injured.

The medicine she bought before might be of some use.

Chen Yunyun's fingertips paused, incredulous. He was actually... not wearing anything underneath?

A pair of icy hands rested on hers.

Chen Yunyun looked up; she didn't know when the man had woken up.

His face had darkened, and his eyes were dark and icy.

"I just wanted to see if you were hurt," Chen Yunyun explained.

Rong Yan remained silent, raised his hand and flipped it over. Chen Yunyun felt a burning sensation in her palm and quickly withdrew her hand.

Forcibly mobilizing spiritual energy and damaging the Mother Lock caused bright red blood to trickle down Rong Yan's lips.

His already pale face turned even paler.

"My good intentions have been taken for granted." Chen Yunyun threw down the medicine bottle and left the house.

Rong Yan forced himself to stand up despite the excruciating pain of his severed meridians, his gaze falling on the medicine bottle.

He had just tried to break free from the control of the Mother Lock, and after traveling only ten miles, his body showed signs of collapse.

He ignored it and forced himself to walk another five miles, until all his meridians were severed.

With no other choice, he had to come back.

Rong Yan closed his eyes and sat down to meditate.

If he hadn't suffered heavy losses in the war between immortals and demons, a mere mother-child lock would have been nothing more than an insignificant trinket.
