Chapter 42 A withered tree comes back to life, a dead tree rises from the dead

In the afternoon, Chen Yunyun retrieved the demon-slaying sword and cleaned up all the blood on the mountain.

A fire was lit in the wood-burning stove, and Chen Yunyun picked out a plump chicken from the woodshed, cleaned it, and started stewing it.

Having lost so much blood, she felt extremely weak.

Sitting in front of the stove, Chen Yunyun's eyes gradually became vacant.

This battle with Chi Mei made Chen Yunyun realize her shortcomings.

Without the system, she has lost a layer of protection.

There is also a powerful demon lurking in the shadows, whose combat strength is almost negligible. What should we do next?

Continue simmering over low heat.

Chen Yunyun told Niu Niu and Da Wa not to go into the room, and then went out.

Zhang the hunter's words at noon served as a reminder to her.

There was a highly respected old man in the village. Because of his seniority, everyone called him Great Ancestor.

The great ancestor came down the mountain and stayed at the village chief's house.

Chen Yunyun knocked on the door of the village chief's house, where the square eaves enclosed the sky.

The blue bricks of the roof were completely covered with snow.

An ancient stone lamp, carved with patterns, hangs on the wall.

Despite his gray hair, the great-grandfather was full of energy and had a ruddy complexion.

Upon seeing Chen Yunyun enter, he stood up and circled around her three times.

"In all my years, this is the first time I've ever seen such a strange destiny!"

"A withered tree comes back to life, dead and alive again, tsk tsk tsk."

The village chief was behind him, worried that he might fall, saying, "Great Ancestor, please slow down."

Upon hearing this, Chen Yunyun understood that this person was indeed an expert.

She looked at the great-grandfather, who understood and told the village chief to leave.

With no one else around, Chen Yunyun got straight to the point and explained her purpose.

Unexpectedly, the Great Ancestor shook his head and said, "Child, I can't help you." He sighed, "I'm old and my strength is failing me."

"However, I have some talismanic rules from my younger days, which I hope will be of help to you."

As he spoke, the Great Ancestor threw out a yellowed old book.

Chen Yunyun had no choice but to accept it, thanked him, and left.

The woman's frail figure disappeared through the gate. The village chief stood beside the great-grandfather and asked, "Great-grandfather, aren't you worried that by helping her like this, you're aiding and abetting evil?"

The Great Ancestor stroked his white beard and said, "I am sure I am right in judging people."

After a pause, the Grand Ancestor laughed like a child, "Do you really think that just anyone can draw that talisman?"

Not receiving the assistance she wanted, Chen Yunyun was somewhat disheartened.

But on second thought, it makes sense.

She looked at the yellowed talisman in her hand, which was nothing more than a pile of waste paper in her hands.

When Chen Yunyun returned home, her eldest child and Niu Niu were both obediently practicing calligraphy at the table.

"Where is Ah Sheng?"

Upon hearing this, both Da Wa and Niu Niu's expressions became somewhat unusual.

Chen Yunyun immediately noticed something was wrong. "What's wrong? Where's my brother?"

The eldest child pointed inside the house.

Thinking of the unpredictable man inside, Chen Yunyun immediately went inside.

The kerosene lamp was still dim and flickering, seemingly about to go out.

The man was wearing a gray coat, but it couldn't hide his noble air. He sat upright, his long, slender hands clasped together on his knees.

Beside his legs, a small, round thing was sleeping.

Unsurprisingly, it was Chen Yunyun's good-for-nothing third son.

The man seemed to be meditating, so absorbed in his meditation that he didn't even notice the drool that Sanwa had dripped onto his leg.

Chen Yunyun approached, intending to pick up the child without disturbing the man.

As soon as her hand touched the child's waist, it inevitably brushed against the man's thigh.

Chen Yunyun felt a chill on her wrist; someone had grabbed her vital point.

She looked up and, by sheer coincidence, met those stunning yet icy dark eyes again.

She gave an awkward laugh. "If I said I didn't do it on purpose, would you believe me?"

Rong Yan was conscious and noticed the wetness on her legs, and then saw the child in Chen Yunyun's arms.

I now understand everything.

With a wave of his hand, he changed back into his long, dark robe.

The air was filled with the fragrance of sandalwood.

Chen Yunyun took the child back, looking embarrassed. "You can conjure up the clothes; I can wash them."

Rong Yan did not answer. He got out of bed, his tall figure blocking most of the light from the kerosene lamp. He parted his thin lips slightly and said, "No need."

After carrying the three children to the bed, Chen Yunyun turned to the man and asked, "Want to talk?"

Rong Yan nodded, and with a flick of his long robe, Chen Yunyun's vision went blank, and she felt the wind whistling past her ears.

When she looked up again, she and Rong Yan had reached the top of the mountain.

The snow was very thick and the temperature was very low.

Chen Yunyun shivered from the cold as she came out of the house.

The man wore a long robe that looked very thin. He stood amidst the snow, exuding an aura of unparalleled solitude.

His brows were cold, like they were covered in ice that couldn't be melted. "What is it?"

Chen Yunyun replied, "The matter of the mother-and-child lock was not my intention."

"I don't need any locks to help me do things. I'll figure out how to unlock this once things are resolved."

"At that time, the sky will be high and the sea will be wide, and you can go wherever you want."

As Rong Yan listened to these words, his gaze fell on the woman's lips as she opened and closed her mouth.

Women's words always sound nice.

Fortunately, he never believed it.

Seeing that the man remained silent, Chen Yunyun didn't understand what he meant.

"I can give you a place to stay and food."

"But I need your help with something."

Rong Yan smiled, as expected...

He heard the woman's incessant, unhurried voice saying, "There must be a great demon near Chi Mei."

"If possible, I hope you can protect us."

"Can"

The man's clear and melodious voice, just like his face, was captivating.
