Chapter 53 An Unreasonable Family on the Train

The Zhang family, led by Zhang the hunter, are worried about sending their son, Huzi, to school after the New Year.

Upon hearing Chen Yunyun's voice, they quickly opened the door for her.

"You caught a tiger?" The hunter's dark face clearly showed his shock.

Chen Yunyun looked around and, seeing no one else, nodded.

Tiger heard this and ran out, "Godmother, there's a tiger? I want to see it too!"

Chen Yunyun had no choice but to take them to her home. Looking at the several-meter-long insect on the ground, Zhang the hunter felt a sharp pain in his face.

He had even been thinking of using a hunting rifle to settle scores with this family!

Looking back now, I'm glad I didn't have time.

Otherwise, what's lying here today isn't a tiger, it's clearly his body!

“I have connections in hospitals in the provincial capital, some of which use these. But the crackdowns have been strict these past two years, so I don’t know if they still need them.”

Chen Yunyun was aware of the grim situation outside. "Then I'll ask Uncle Zhang to take these two sausages back for Hu Zi to try. He really likes them."

After eating at Chen Yunyun's place a few times, her son started asking for sausages every day.

Villagers don't have time for all that during the New Year.

Having meat, eggs, and a bowl of noodles is already considered quite good.

Unable to resist his son's liking, Zhang the hunter accepted the gift somewhat embarrassedly, saying, "The snow will melt in a few days, and I'll ask around for you then."

"If there's anything else you need help with, you can have my son contact me."

Chen Yunyun thanked Zhang the hunter, and let him carry the tiger away.

Time flies.

Not long after the first day of the Lunar New Year, it was the Lantern Festival.

Chen Yunyun made glutinous rice balls with sesame filling. They were soft, chewy, and delicious, full of the aroma of sesame and sugar.

Our great-grandfather passed away yesterday, and the whole village attended his funeral.

After the funeral, the village chief held a meeting with everyone and announced that educated youth would be going to the countryside after the New Year, so everyone should put away all the incense and other offerings in the village.

"These are things left by our ancestors, how can we throw them away?"

The village chief's words carried great weight, striking a chord in everyone's hearts: "The world has changed. Anyone with eyes can see how chaotic things are outside."

"What kind of incense or offerings are these? Leaving them outside will cause trouble."

“You all have relatives outside, so ask around and see if what I’m saying is true.”

"I've made it clear beforehand that I've given all the advice I could, and if they still won't listen, there's nothing I can do."

Why do you want to change this when everything is fine?

Someone pointed at Chen Yunyun, "Zhijun's wife, why don't you say something too?"

Chen Yunyun stood up under everyone's gaze, and then, after receiving the village chief's look, she...

She cleared her throat. "Everyone in the village is my elder, and I don't want to harm them. Please listen to the village chief."

"Zhijun's wife, why are you so disappointing?"

Chen Yunyun smiled apologetically. This was the general trend; what could she possibly say?

Although the villagers were unwilling, the village chief's words carried great weight, and no one dared to disobey him. They could only occasionally grumble at home.

After the Lantern Festival, the weather warms up.

The snow gradually melted, and the road out of the mountains was finally reopened.

Chen Yunyun packed her clothes and food for her long trip, and she made a lot of flatbreads.

Outside is different from home; you can't bring eye-catching food.

So Chen Yunyun used a jar to put a lot of minced meat and pickled vegetables in it. The minced meat was chopped into very small pieces and mixed in with the dark vegetables, so you couldn't tell that it was meat at all.

Everyone brought a set of clothes, which filled their bundles.

Chen Yunyun put both the money and the tickets in her storage ring. The storage ring was simple and inconspicuous, like a thimble on the sole of a Menna shoe.

As soon as the mountain road was reopened, Zhang the hunter went out of the mountains and found a buyer in no time.

Chen Yunyun refused to come forward, so Zhang the hunter claimed that he was the one who shot it.

The man even praised his improved skills, saying that he hadn't even seen any wounds, yet the tiger was dead.

Hunter Zhang had no choice but to make up a lie to smooth things over.

A tiger was sold for three hundred yuan.

Zhang the hunter gave everything to Chen Yunyun, and even when Chen Yunyun offered some as a reward, he resolutely refused to accept it.

Chen Yunyun had no choice but to be a little gentler when hitting Huzi next time.

The day for their long journey finally arrived. Early in the morning, Chen Yunyun woke up the children, took the letter of introduction from the village chief, and set off from the mountains with their bags.

Because he was going out, Rong Yan changed into an inconspicuous cotton-padded jacket, exactly the same as Chen Yunyun's, both of them gray and patched.

Chen Yunyun put everything from the bag into her ring; the bag was just for decoration.

The mountain road was narrow and the snow was thick. Chen Yunyun handed the three children to Rong Yan, who then helped carry them.

The group arrived at the town's bus station and waited for more than two hours before a bus finally arrived.

This car is heading to the provincial capital; they're going there to catch a train.

After boarding the train and buying tickets, Chen Yunyun and Rong Yan found seats and settled down.

The woman selling tickets stared intently at Rong Yan, saying, "Young lady, your man is really handsome."

Chen Yunyun explained, "That's my younger brother from my maternal family."

"Oh, is that your younger brother? Is he married?" The ticket seller asked with a gossipy look, trying to introduce her sister to Rong Yan.

Rong Yan, the person involved, kept his eyes closed and his face was cold, as if he wasn't the one being discussed.

Chen Yunyun didn't want to cause any more trouble, so she simply said that Rong Yan was already engaged, which put her older sister at ease.

The mountain road was difficult to travel, and there was snow on it, so the car was swaying and moving slowly.

It was the first time the children had ridden in a car, and they all got carsick.

After sitting for a short while, the eldest daughter, Niu Niu, looked pale and listless.

Chen Yunyun had no choice but to take out the prepared ginger and stick it on the children's navels.
