Chapter 22

When Li Hehua arrived at Shangshui Village, it was already past noon. Every household had already had lunch. The village was quiet, and everyone was probably taking a nap after lunch.

Li Hehua couldn't go in now, because even if Zhang Tieshan and Zhang Qingshan were not at home, Zhang Lin would be taking a nap at home. She didn't want to meet Zhang Lin. Except for that little guy, she didn't want to meet anyone else in the Zhang family.

At this moment, Li Hehua was very hungry and was very conflicted: should he come next time or wait until Zhang Lin finished her nap and went out?

Let's go back first. Li Hehua couldn't bear to leave the little guy and wanted to give him the food she brought. But if she waited here, she didn't know when Zhang Lin would wake up and go out. Would she have to endure the hunger and wait? And if she waited too late, she would not have time to go back and make cakes.

Li Hehua was so conflicted that he waited for nearly half an hour but still didn't see Zhang Lin come out. He had no choice but to give up and was planning to go back today when he suddenly saw Zhang Tieshan coming out with the little guy in his arms.

Li Hehua was startled and quickly hid behind a big tree. Fortunately, these were several very thick trees connected together, otherwise they would not be able to block her sturdy figure.

Zhang Tieshan carried the little guy straight to a big tree not far away. There was a swing installed there at some point. Zhang Tieshan put the little guy on the swing and asked him to hold the ropes on both sides. Then he went behind him and gently helped him push the swing. The little guy swung gently.

Li Hehua is now very close to that place and can clearly see everything about the little guy through the gaps between the trees.

The little guy was swung by the swing. Although there was still no expression on his face and he didn't giggle, the expression on his face was no longer empty but real. It was obvious that the little guy was experiencing the swing.

I didn’t expect that Zhang Tieshan, a grown man, was so thoughtful and even knew to make a toy for the little guy to make him happy.

Li Hehua originally wanted to leave, but now seeing the little guy playing on the swing, she watched quietly again, planning to wait until the little guy had enough fun before leaving.

As a result, after Zhang Tieshan accompanied the little guy for a quarter of an hour, he squatted down in front of him and said something to him, then walked away and went home, leaving the little guy alone there.

Li Hehua thought Zhang Tieshan was going back to get something, but he didn't come back after waiting for a long time. He couldn't help but wonder, is there something wrong with Zhang Tieshan? Or did he forget about the little guy outside?

Should she take this opportunity to find the little guy and give him the food? But what if Zhang Tieshan suddenly came out and saw her? Would he think she had bad intentions?

Li Hehua was in endless confusion and simply observed for a while, but still did not see Zhang Tieshan coming back.

Seeing that it would be late if she waited any longer, Li Hehua gritted her teeth and decided to fight. What if she went out? What if she saw it? Did she break the law by looking at the child?

With his mind prepared, Li Hehua slowly walked out from behind the tree, came straight to the little guy, squatted down, and greeted him with a big smile, "Baby! Did you miss me? I miss you so much!"

The little guy originally had his head down, as if he was thinking about something, but when Li Hehua called him, he moved slightly, then slowly raised his head and looked at Li Hehua.

Li Hehua was almost stunned. This was the second time the little guy responded to her words. The last time he responded when she brought barbecue and rice to him. This time she just greeted him and he looked up at her. This made her feel more excited than shaking hands with her idol in modern times.

Does this mean that the little guy is not so against her anymore? Is he gradually accepting her? Is he feeling her kindness towards him?

Li Hehua was so excited, but time was limited, so she quickly struck while the iron was hot, lifted the cloth on the basket, and took out all the food inside. "Baby, I brought you some delicious food, there are candied haws, hawthorn cakes, and lotus seed paste cakes, all of which are delicious." Li Hehua picked up a lotus seed paste cake and handed it to the little guy, "Come on, baby, open your mouth and have a bite."

The little guy's eyes slowly moved to the lotus seed paste cake next to his mouth. After a moment of silence, he slowly opened his mouth and took a bite.

The corners of Li Hehua's mouth were getting more and more upturned, and she was probably smiling like a fool, but she didn't care, because she was so happy that the little guy was actually willing to eat what she fed him, and he didn't reject it like he did the first time.

Li Hehua couldn't help but say, "Little guy, you know I'm not the one who treats you badly, right? You're not afraid of me now, right?"

Although the little guy didn't respond, Li Hehua was still happy.

After feeding the little one the lotus seed paste cake in his hand, Li Hehua knew that he couldn't stay any longer, so he had to put all the food on the little guy's legs, "Baby, it's getting late, I have to go, I will come to see you next time. You have to eat well, okay? Goodbye, baby."

The little guy stared at her quietly with his big black eyes, his lips tightly pursed.

Li Hehua smiled at him, took two steps back, then turned around and seeing that no one had noticed her, she quickly walked along the path towards Lianhua Village.

When they returned to Lianhua Village, Cao Simei had already eaten and had a nap. Seeing Li Hehua coming back, she quickly pulled her to the kitchen and said, "Sister, why did you come back so late? Are you hungry? I left some lunch for you. Come and eat."

Li Hehua was indeed hungry before, but now he didn't feel anything anymore, because he was too hungry and didn't want to eat anymore.

Seeing that Li Hehua didn't want to eat, Cao Simei disagreed, "How can you not eat? People can't not eat."

Li Hehua laughed at herself: "Big sister, look at my figure. I have to eat less so that I can lose weight."

Fourth Sister Cao looked at Li Hehua's figure and was about to say that even if she was fat, she couldn't skip meals, but she suddenly realized something was wrong, "Big sister, you seem to have lost weight!"

Li Hehua was surprised, "Really?" But when he looked at himself, he was still flesh.

Fourth Sister Cao took another closer look and nodded in affirmation, "Indeed, you have lost weight. I remember that you were wearing the clothes you are wearing now when you first came to our village. At that time, they were so full that they could hardly hold you back. To be honest, when I first saw you, I thought that a woman this fat, her clothes would fall apart. But look at you now, your clothes are loose, a lot."

Without Cao Simei's reminder, Li Hehua really didn't realize it. She didn't have a scale, so she couldn't weigh herself every day, so she didn't know whether she had lost weight or not. In addition, she was busy making money every day, so she didn't pay too much attention to her weight. Now after Cao Simei's reminder, Li Hehua realized that it seemed to be true.

The coat she was wearing now was not tight, but rather much looser, and so were her pants, not as tight as when she first came.

Is this really thin?

Li Hehua was pleasantly surprised. It seemed that her weight loss was effective. Her weight loss was not in vain! Although she was still very fat now, she was slowly losing weight. As long as she persisted, she believed that one day she would be able to regain her devilish figure in her previous life.

Li Hehua suddenly felt that he was full of strength.

Seeing Li Hehua so happy, Cao Simei was also happy for her, "Big sister, you are so good, the only shortcoming is that you are fat. If you can continue to lose weight, there will definitely be a lot of men chasing after you and vying to marry you."

Li Hehua burst out laughing and said, "Sister, you are exaggerating. Who would want to marry me?" Besides, she didn't want to get married. As an abandoned woman in this era, she knew that she would be looked down upon by others. The men who would marry her would either be widowers or of low quality. Why should she get married? She might as well earn her own money and spend it herself and live a carefree life.

Of course, she would never tell these words to Cao Simei, because she probably wouldn't be able to understand her thoughts.

Cao Simei really couldn't guess why Li Hehua was single, so she said to herself, "How could no one marry her? Don't worry, I'll keep an eye out for you and make sure you choose the right one."

Li Hehua didn't care. He just made some perfunctory responses and turned around to eat.

After the meal, Cao Simei asked Li Hehua not to rush and pulled her to sit at the table. She took out the money she had earned today and said, "Sister, I earned much more today than yesterday. My wallet can hardly hold it all." As she said that, she took out a pile of copper coins and put them on the table, making a noise.

As Cao Simei took out the money, she said, "I was busy selling cakes today and didn't have time to count them. I'll count them now. Big sister, help me count too."

Li Hehua nodded, took half of the money on the table and started counting. The result was ninety-eight coins, and Cao Simei also counted it out. The total was one hundred and two coins, which added up to exactly two hundred coins.

Fourth sister Cao's eyes widened in surprise, "Big sister, I made two hundred coins today."

Li Hehua smiled, and mentally counted the number of cakes Cao Simei had sold today. He reached out and took out twenty-five coins and handed them to Cao Simei, "Big sister, this is your reward for today."

Cao Simei's eyes were shining as she held the twenty-five cents.

This is twenty-five cents. I earned twenty-five cents in just half a day. It is more than what a strong laborer earns in two days. How can I not believe it?

Li Hehua raised his lips, collected the money on the table, and then took out the money he earned today and counted it. Excluding the money for buying materials, he made a total of 150 coins. In other words, the net profit today was 325 coins.

Li Hehua felt that he had earned a lot today, but as soon as he thought about the money needed to buy a yard in the town, he immediately felt that the money was too little. It seemed that he still had to work hard, so he patted Cao Simei's hand and said, "Okay, sister, let's make cakes. We can earn this much every day in the future."

Cao Simei came back to her senses and stood up with great energy, "Yes, yes, yes, make cakes and continue selling them tomorrow."

Just when Li Hehua and Cao Simei were busy making cakes in the kitchen, Daya suddenly ran in and said, "Aunt Hehua, someone is looking for you outside."

Li Hehua was surprised. Who would look for her? How did they know she was here?

Seeing Li Hehua's confusion, Daya said, "It seems like they are looking for you to be the host."

Upon hearing this, Li Hehua quickly took off his apron and walked out. He saw a middle-aged couple sitting in the main room. When they saw Li Hehua come in, they immediately stood up and said, "Chef Li, so you moved to a new place. We just went to Sheung Shui Village and only found out you were here when we got there. It was so hard for us to find you."

Li Hehua was puzzled. Did they go to Shangshui Village to look for her? Who told them she was here? It seemed that no one knew she was living in Sister Cao's house.

However, before Li Hehua could think carefully, the couple talked about their purpose, and Li Hehua's attention was immediately drawn to this.
