Chapter 8

On the way home, although she was very hungry, Li Hehua was happy from the bottom of her heart because she would be able to earn money soon.

As long as we make a good start, we won't have to worry about lack of business. I believe the villagers have excellent communication skills.

In that case, could she give herself a reward?

Well, actually, she really didn’t want to eat brown rice porridge anymore. She was almost suffering from muscle weakness after eating it so much.

I still have about thirty cents on me, so I can buy some rice and flour to eat. Anyway, the Wang family is going to hold a banquet in ten days, so the money should be enough for me.

Li Hehua did what he said. Despite the strong hunger, he did not return to the village but went directly to the town.

When we arrived in the town, many street stalls had closed down, but some food was still selling.

Li Hehua touched her stomach and wanted to eat a bowl of noodles, but a bowl of vegetarian noodles cost three cents, which was too expensive for her now.

After struggling for a while, Li Hehua finally overcame his desire and walked away in pain.

Forget it, I'll just go home and make some noodles myself. They'll definitely taste a hundred times better than what I eat here.

After comforting himself, Li Hehua walked straight along the street to a grain and oil store, bought some rice and some flour, spending a total of twenty-five cents, leaving only five cents in his pocket.

Li Hehua sighed, turned and walked towards the village.

When he got home, the sun was around four o'clock in the afternoon. Many villagers were still working in the fields at this time. Li Hehua did not see Zhang Tieshan, Zhang Qingshan, or Zhang Tieshan's mother, but the door of the house was open, so they should not have gone far.

Li Hehua put the rice he bought in the woodshed first, then went straight to the kitchen with the flour. When he was about to start working, he thought of the child from yesterday. Then, as if possessed by a ghost, he walked behind the stove first, and then he saw the child from yesterday again.

Still sitting in the same posture, still silent.

Li Hehua's heart twitched, feeling sour and bitter. An unknown emotion filled her brain, making her want to hug the child, kiss him, and give him the best things, to make him laugh and make him happy.

But she knew she couldn't, because the child was very disgusted with her and she would only hurt him if she got close.

So, Li Hehua suppressed his emotions and said to the child, "Baby, hello, I'm going to cook now. I'm going to make delicious noodles. Can I make you a bowl too?"

As expected, the child did not respond, but Li Hehua was not disappointed. He turned around and started making noodles.

There were no other side dishes at home, so she could only make the most ordinary vegetarian noodles.

Making noodles was too easy for her. It took less than ten minutes to finish. Li Hehua made a little more and scooped out half a bowl of noodles. Then she put the bowl on a stool in the kitchen and moved the stool to the front of the little boy behind the stove. She said softly, "Baby, these noodles are very fragrant. Try them."

Seeing that the child did not move or react, Li Hehua pursed his lips, sighed, and said, "Well, baby, I won't disturb you. Eat by yourself, okay? Be careful not to get burned. I'm leaving now." After that, he simply brushed the pot and slowly carried his bowl of noodles back to the woodshed.

While eating the noodles she made, Li Hehua was thinking about the little boy in the kitchen. He wondered if he ate the noodles or if he got burned.

Halfway through the meal, Li Hehua still put down the bowl out of concern, got up and went to the kitchen to see if the child was scalded. As soon as he reached the kitchen door, he heard a woman's voice inside. It was Zhang Linshi.

Li Hehua quickly stopped.

Inside, Zhang Lin was surprised, "Where did the noodles come from, Shulin?"

No one answered.

Li Hehua quietly returned to the woodshed.

Just after closing the door of the woodshed, I heard two people talking outside. It was Zhang Tieshan and Zhang Qingshan who were coming.

Li Hehua lowered his head and continued to eat his noodles.

Zhang Tieshan and Zhang Qingshan didn't see their mother and Shulin, so they put down their things and went to the kitchen. They saw Zhang Lin bending over by the stove and talking about something. When she saw her two sons coming back, she straightened up and said, "You're back."

Zhang Qingshan was curious, "Mom, what are you doing? Are you talking to Shulin?"

Zhang Lin frowned slightly: "I just went to the stream to wash some clothes, and when I came back I saw an extra bowl of noodles in front of Shulin. I don't know where it came from. I asked Shulin, but he ignored me."

Zhang Qingshan hurried over to take a look, and sure enough, he saw a bench in front of Shulin with a bowl of steaming noodles on it. When he smelled it, he could smell a strong and tempting aroma.

"These noodles are so delicious? Where did they come from?" Zhang Qingshan was puzzled and couldn't help but look at his brother.

Zhang Tieshan also saw the bowl of noodles. He didn't say anything, but his eyes fixed for a moment. After a while, he shook his head and said in a faint voice, "It's okay. I'll carry Shulin out. Let's all go out." After that, he walked to the firewood pile, stretched out his hands, carried Shulin in his arms, and walked out.

Zhang Qingshan looked at the noodles on the stool, thought about it and picked them up and followed him out of the kitchen. The noodles smelled really good. Whoever gave them to Shulin must have meant well for him. It would be a waste if he didn't eat them, so he should give them to Shulin.

Zhang Qingshan brought the noodles to the table and handed over a pair of chopsticks. "Brother, these noodles smell so good. It must be the same person who gave Shulin the buns yesterday. This person must be a very good cook. Brother, feed it to Shulin."

Zhang Lin said puzzledly, "It's really strange. I was washing clothes not far from the door. I didn't see anyone come into the house to bring food to Shulin. And why didn't the villagers say anything when they brought something?"

Zhang Qingshan also shook his head in confusion: "I don't know, maybe he doesn't want us to know. Anyway, as long as it's good for Shulin, it's fine."

Zhang Lin thought about it and said, "Sending food to Shulin must be good for Shulin. Let's give the noodles to Shulin. Don't waste his kindness."

Zhang Qingshan glanced at the tightly closed door of the woodshed without leaving a trace. Without saying a word, he took the chopsticks from Zhang Qingshan's hand, picked up a handful of noodles, and put it into his mouth first.

When the noodles entered his mouth, Zhang Qingshan paused, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes. After a few breaths, he began to chew and then slowly swallowed.

Zhang Qingshan watched his brother's actions and admired him very much. He thought it was too simple, while his brother was thoughtful. He only thought that if it was a good thing, he would let Shulin eat it, but he didn't think that there might be problems with the food, let alone try it first. If there was a problem, wouldn't it harm Shulin?

Thinking of this, Zhang Qingshan felt a little guilty. He reached out and took the chopsticks from his brother's hand, picked up a piece of noodles and put it into his mouth. He wanted to try it on Shulin. He couldn't let his brother test the poison alone.

As soon as the noodles entered his mouth, his eyes widened unconsciously, and he quickly chewed the food in his mouth, saying as he ate, "Who made this? Aren't these just ordinary noodles? How can they be so delicious? They are better than those sold in town."

When Zhang Lin heard her youngest son say this, she became curious and quickly took a bite. She was also surprised by the result. She didn't expect that an ordinary bowl of vegetarian noodles could be so delicious.

Zhang Tieshan didn't say anything.

After a while, seeing that nothing happened, Zhang Tieshan picked up a chopstick of noodles and handed it to Shulin's mouth, "Shulin, eat noodles, open your mouth obediently."

Shu Lin's eyes moved, stared at the noodles for a moment, and finally opened his mouth.

Zhang Tieshan fed Shulin slowly until all the noodles in the bowl were finished.

Zhang Qingshan was a little surprised when he saw this. "Brother, Shulin actually finished the whole bowl of noodles? He couldn't eat much before."

There was also a flash of surprise in Zhang Tieshan's eyes.

Since he came back, Shulin has become like this. He can't eat. He often throws up immediately after feeding a little. He has been a little better these days, but he eats very little. He was taken to see a doctor, and the doctor said that this is a heart disease caused by long-term hunger, and taking medicine will not cure the root cause. This always makes him worry and unable to sleep, but now, Shulin eats a bowl of noodles. How can he not be surprised?

Could it be that Shulin...

Zhang Tieshan glanced towards the woodshed again, an inexplicable emotion flashed across his eyes that was incomprehensible.

At this moment, Li Hehua didn't know what was happening outside. He just finished eating his noodles quietly. He heard some noise outside and knew that the Zhang family was still outside. He didn't want to go out and just waited until there was no one outside before going to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

Having just finished eating, Li Hehua couldn’t lie down to rest immediately, so he stood up and slowly did yoga, which helped him digest his food while speeding up his weight loss.

But now she is too fat, and yoga is very difficult for her. Many movements that were easy for her before are now extremely difficult. She can't even lift her legs. Just bending over makes her very tired. So after a set of movements, Li Hehua is sweating profusely, as if she had just been pulled out of the water. Her body is too tired to move.

Li Hehua was so tired that she collapsed on the bed, breathing heavily, looking down at her body, and clenched her fists. She had to persist and lose weight.

It quickly got dark outside. I could vaguely hear the sound of cooking in the kitchen, and then the sound of the family eating. After a long time, the sounds outside gradually died down, and finally everything fell into silence.

Li Hehua quietly opened the door of the woodshed and heard that it was indeed quiet outside. Then he took the bowl to the kitchen and washed the dishes in the moonlight outside. Then he quietly boiled a pot of water and went into the woodshed to take a bath and change his clothes. Then he lay down comfortably. Then he planned in his mind to get up tomorrow morning before others woke up and make some steamed buns as his meal for the day. This way he would not meet other people and could solve his food problem for the day.

After thinking it over, Li Hehua fell asleep.

The next day, Li Hehua opened his eyes as soon as the rooster crowed, remembered his plan, and sat up despite his sleepiness. After getting dressed, he took the flour he had bought and went into the kitchen to start making steamed buns.

Steamed buns are very simple to make and can be made quickly. All she has to do is steam them. Just as she was about to put the buns into the steamer, she caught a glimpse of half a basket of leeks out of the corner of her eye. Her eyes lit up and she couldn't help but think of the child again.

It should be okay for her to secretly use a little bit of chives, right? Just a little bit is enough. She wanted to make some fried dumplings for the child. He was really too weak and needed to eat something delicious.

But what if other people found out? Would they think she was stealing from them and be unhappy?

Li Hehua was in a dilemma. She knew it was better not to do unnecessary things, but for some reason, she just wanted to make something delicious for the child. Perhaps, it was out of guilt that she herself did not want to admit. Although it was not the real her, now, she was Li Hehua.

In the end, Li Hehua secretly used a handful of leeks in the basket, chopped them into leek stuffing, added seasoning, and finally wrapped them in dough. Then he fried them in a pan, and a bowl of fried dumplings was ready.

After picking up one and tasting it, Li Hehua was very satisfied with the taste. He covered the rest with a bowl and placed it on the stove, waiting to give it to the little baby.

She knew that this would definitely make other people suspicious, but she didn't intend to pretend to be anonymous. She just wanted to be nice to the child, but she had nothing now. She could only make some food for him, but it was impossible for her to feed him secretly every time, so if other people knew about it, let them know. She didn't want to get any good words.

Thinking of this, Li Hehua picked up the steamed buns and went back to the woodshed. As soon as she turned around, she saw a tall figure standing at the kitchen door. He looked at her so scared that she almost dropped the bowl.
