Chapter 239 Puppy

Jiang Baige returned home and her mother had already started preparing dinner.

The family just moved here and doesn't have a job yet, so they all stay at home.

Jiang's mother believed that if she didn't exercise, she would definitely not eat much, so she made simple dinner, as long as it was filling.

Grandma Meng is best at making hand-rolled noodles, and only people in the north can make such noodles. As southerners, the Jiang family members all like them very much.

So tonight we had hand-rolled noodles again. Each of us had a bowl of noodles, made with broth from large bones, and a spoonful of meat sauce was added on top of the noodles. This spoonful was actually just a little bit.

Jiang Baige picked up the chopsticks and stirred the noodles. After stirring, she found that there was no meat in the bowl except noodles.

With a pouty mouth, she asked, "Mom, we have no meat at home. If we eat such a vegetarian diet, we will definitely be hungry at night."

Jiang's mother was eating noodles when she heard the girl say that the noodles were too plain, so she quickly put down her chopsticks.

"What's wrong? Are you hungry? Can mommy cook you a midnight snack?"

If there is leftover food at home, Jiang's mother will not be reluctant to give her family a midnight snack.

Jiang Baige asked: "Midnight snack, isn't it noodles again?"

Jiang's mother smiled and said, "Your grandmother Meng made a lot of noodles just now. I was planning to make breakfast for you tomorrow. If you're hungry, you can cook it tonight. I'll add an egg for you."

After taking a mouthful of noodles, he continued, "I heard that meat is hard to find these days. Let's save some money for now. After this period, I'll make you something delicious for the New Year."

Mother Jiang looked at her daughter beside her. Before she came back, the three of them could only eat half full.

Now that the daughter is back, she often brings food home. The fortune teller was right. This daughter is the lucky star of their family.

When Jiang Baige heard her mother draw a big pie for herself, which she couldn't eat for a while, she could only smile.

"Mom, it's still early for the New Year! If you let us continue like this, your intestines will rust."

When Jiang's mother heard the girl's words, she couldn't help but laugh out loud.

"Then I'll cook you a pot of tea eggs as a midnight snack tonight. That should be okay, right?"

Jiang Baige thought for a moment and said, "Well, forget about the midnight snack! This bowl of noodles will fill me up. You can ask Dad and Bai Yang tonight! They're men, and they'll definitely be hungry after eating this."

Jiang Baiyang nodded and said, "Yes, I want to eat tea eggs."

When Jiang Baiyang heard about tea eggs, he was ecstatic. His mother finally agreed to cook tea eggs.

Mother Jiang glared at her son and spoke in a tone that sounded both blaming and doting.

"Eat, eat, eat. You're the one who eats the most at home right now."

"You little brat, you're eating me out of my house. That's absolutely true."

Jiang Baiyang made a face, which was more embarrassing than simple.

Seeing that there was still a lot of noodles in her bowl, Jiang's mother picked up a chopstick and said to her son, "Here, I'll give you some. If you're not hungry tonight, I won't make tea eggs."

Father Jiang was just eating noodles and listening to his wife's words, feeling pretty happy. But now he heard that tea eggs were not made anymore, he felt a little disappointed.

But luckily he didn't say it like his son did. He was glad that he didn't say anything, otherwise he would definitely be the one being scolded.

He ate all the noodles in the bowl and drank up the soup.

He said, "You guys take your time eating. I'll go to the yard to check on the rabbits after I'm done."

Jiang's mother said, "I pulled some grass from the roadside behind the kitchen today. You can use it to feed the pigs!"

Father Jiang was about to go out, but when he heard there was still grass, he came back.

They had only raised this litter of rabbits for a short time, but they had already grown big enough and would be ready to eat soon. For the sake of this litter of lively meat, the whole family was very active in pulling weeds and feeding them.

Fortunately, rabbits are very quiet and don’t make noises like chickens and ducks, so they dare to keep them in the yard.

A moment later, Jiang's father came out with a bundle of grass, which could be eaten by the rabbits in one night.

Jiang Baiyang finished his noodles and ran out with his father.

He would visit these rabbits eight hundred times a day, hoping that they would grow up quickly and give birth to more litters of baby rabbits.

After dinner, Jiang Baige said, "Mom, I want to sleep tonight, so don't wake me up for a midnight snack."

Jiang's mother was eating and washing dishes. When she heard her daughter's words, she responded.

"Go and rest! Mother knows."

She didn't know what her daughter did all day, but she was happy to see that she was not as lifeless as before.

However, her daughter had been out for the whole day, and she thought she must be tired, so she didn't want to disturb her.

Jiang Baige helped clear the table and then went upstairs.

It was still early before dark, so she read a book in her room for a while.

After it got dark, she took advantage of the night and left home.

After going out, she took the bicycle out of the space and headed all the way to her house.

The two houses are two or three kilometers apart, so it won’t take long to get there.

When she got here, she didn't go through the main gate, but went outside the courtyard wall. After looking around to see that there was no one around, she put away her bicycle and climbed over the wall to go in.

It was dark, and I couldn't see what was going on inside the house from the outside, and there was no light inside.

For safety, she entered the space and then went into the house.

The house was very quiet. Even outside, the chirping of crickets could be heard clearly. It was obvious that the person living here had not returned yet.

After waiting for a while and still not seeing anyone, she felt that she might have been wrong. Maybe the person had only stayed there for two days, or maybe he had already left.

Jiang Baige couldn't help but pout, feeling that she was really making a big deal out of nothing.

When she was about to leave, she heard some movement in the backyard. The door creaked open and then closed gently. She also heard the sound of the door being locked.

Jiang Baige flew over and saw a young child sneaking in.

There was a big stone on the ground behind the door, and the child was working hard to move the stone to block the door.

Jiang Baige thought to himself, "This kid is quite alert. He knows the door is bad and wants to block it with stones."

It was too dark and she couldn't see clearly, but judging from the child's figure, it should be a boy, about ten years old.

The puppy spent half a day digging coal slag today and only earned two cents after selling it to a woman.

How could he buy rice with this little money? He simply saved it and bought food next time when he had enough.

There was no rice at home, so I had to go to the nearby wild fields and dig up some wild vegetables.

It looks like we'll be living on wild vegetables for the next couple of days.

He threw a torn bag on the ground and then lit the oil lamp with a flint.

There was not much oil left in the oil lamp, and the flame was dim, making the puppy's face red.

He didn't dare pull out the wick because the kerosene would be consumed too quickly.

I shook a basin of water from the well in the backyard and started washing the wild vegetables.

Jiang Baige saw that there was only this child, and he didn't look stupid and had a clear mind. So she didn't play after coming back, but quickly washed the vegetables and prepared to cook.

Jiang Baige looked at his ability to take care of himself and felt that he must have lived alone for a long time, which was why he was so independent.
