Dreams on a Spring Night (Part 1)

Dreams on a Spring Night (Part 1)

On an ordinary spring night just before summer arrived, the sounds of argument were buried within the room. The carefully crafted words had no time to hide the overwhelming fury, which consumed them one by one. Lu Jinfeng rushed out of the room, overwhelmed by the rampant anger, oblivious to the encroaching sorrow. He gasped, his eyes watering, the weight of indignation still weighing on his chest. He looked in one direction and saw Bai Shunan, sleeping in the corner, his head drooping, the side of his head resting against the wall.

Bai Shunan had just a few more scenes to finish filming, but he was also juggling a supporting role in another film. A director he'd previously worked with had specifically asked Shunan to play a psychopath. The sense of separation couldn't keep up with his busy schedule, and his occasional insomnia was squeezed out of his already scarce sleep time. Therefore, Shunan sought out a place to nap whenever he could.

Lu Jinfeng's rapid breathing slowed as his mood fluctuated. The previous argument was immediately cast into a shadow, receding into the depths. He stood there quietly for a moment, then took off his black suit jacket and draped it over his arm. He then picked up a chair and slowly walked over, placing it gently next to Bai Shunan. Not long after, he sat down.

He looked at him silently.

Nothing good happened this whole spring.

Lu Jinfeng often felt this way.

"I thought about you getting married..."

Bai Shunan's face took on an odd expression when he heard this. He seemed about to frown, but instead, before he could shake off the complex deliberation, he hurriedly smiled. Ever since the "Light and Shadow" crew began filming in the spring, Lu Jinfeng's behavior had become even stranger than last year, and he was always asking inexplicable questions. Bai Shunan raised his hand to wipe away Lu Jinfeng's tears, "Why are you thinking about this? There's no need to."

"You're already thirty."

"So," the wetness on Bai Shunan's fingertips slid down to his palm, "do you like crying so much?"

He suddenly remembered what Lu Jinfeng had said before: "When I see you smile, I sometimes smile too." He curled up the corners of his mouth and smiled faintly. Lu Jinfeng's tears flowed even more.

At this time, Lu Jinfeng was wearing a black suit and carrying red fireworks, and was about to play the groom in a wedding.

In the distance, Jiang Yingshan, who had finished her makeup and hair, had her wedding dress adjusted by the costume designer.

With a lot of extras invited, the crew inevitably became lively.

Li Xuanyue couldn't quite get enough of the wedding scene, constantly tweaking it. She even changed the "囍" character on the door several times. Ever since she saw the reminder on her phone's calendar early that morning, Li Xuanyue hadn't been able to breathe properly. Often, she felt like she'd forgotten to breathe. Meanwhile, the strange sensations lingered, like needles pricking her skin, pumping a constant stream of irritation until her heart swelled. She watched a staff member trip over a balloon, knocking a prop attached to the wall askew. Just as she was about to lose her temper, her phone rang. She looked down and saw the reminder had sounded again.

With a "bang", a staff member blew up a balloon.

I felt the onslaught of emotions again, and this time the clear entanglement was as unbearable as an itchy skin.

Li Xuanyue didn't want to look at the staff who were sorting the props anymore, as it would only add to her troubles. She turned her head and looked away, trying to calm her inner turmoil. Meanwhile, Bai Shunan wiped Lu Jinfeng's sad tears.

Compared with yesterday's rainy day and tomorrow's cloudy day, today's temperature is particularly strange. After several days of calm weather, the temperature suddenly turned high, which is extremely rare in summer. It seems that everything is laying hidden mines for the quarrel in the evening, ready to become the fuse at any time.

Last night, as it was raining, Li Xuanyue started editing the existing videos, and soon, a clip was roughly cut out.

There is a door in the center of the picture. As the camera moves, a scene of Lu Jinfeng and Bai Shunan kissing appears.

The memory of the multiple reshoots at the end of last winter suddenly broke into Li Xuanyue's mind. She cursed the two actors in her heart. As for the scene that was reshot in the early spring, she edited it with a cold face.

The door frames them together, casting shadows of greenery into the room. Bai Shunan buttons his shirt while kissing Lu Jinfeng. A moment later, Bai Shunan walks out the door, and the camera zooms in, but Bai Shunan is no longer in view. Lu Jinfeng is alone in the frame, sprawled on the bed, half-naked, his lower body covered by a wrinkled white quilt.

The video, which has not yet been dubbed, has a lot of noise and the vocals are very shallow.

"Are you leaving now?" Lu Jinfeng looked up at the small window on the wall. The camera slowly moved in on Lu Jinfeng, capturing every subtle change in his face. Then came the chaotic flashes of light and shadow.

Bai Shunan was not in the shot, but his voice came out, "We're leaving."

After hearing this, Lu Jinfeng tried to smile gently with a nostalgic look, but the comforting tone in his smile made everything seem bitter.

The camera gradually pulls away, and then the picture changes, with the open window occupying the center. A bird that was perched on a branch outside the window flew away, leaving behind the swaying branch.

With a click, Lu Jinfeng sat up from his bed. Yawning, he changed his clothes, remembering the ocean documentary he'd watched before falling asleep last night. He subconsciously looked in one direction. Bai Shunan was discussing something with Li Suiwen.

"What do you think?"

β€œIt’s very challenging.”

Li Suiwen nodded, "Last time we played a pair of psychotic lovers in his movie."

She and Bai Shunan both received an offer from a director they had previously worked with. The film was a pseudo-documentary horror film about a seven-year-old child who stumbles upon an old camera at home and begins documenting his daily life. Li Suiwen was debating whether to take the role when she glanced over at Bai Shunan's profile and thought, "This time, we're directly playing a mad couple."

The director wanted them to play the role of the child's parents.

The light was very clear, shining on Bai Shunan. He didn't pay much attention to his hair, and the few strands of hair hung down softly.

"I heard there's a scene in it where we slap each other," Li Suiwen's eyes flicked with fire, and he couldn't help but reach out and flick Bai Shunan's hair. "Just thinking about it makes my blood boil. Shunan, let's go act it out."

Bai Shunan raised his head and looked at Li Suiwen beside him. The corners of his mouth rose slightly and he laughed. The laugh was very soft and the smile was very bright. His eyes revealed the strong interest reflected after deep thought, and suddenly they flashed with light and brightness. "Okay. We have a lot of scenes together this time."

"That's right, they quarrel and fight with each other every day."

Lu Jinfeng looked at them, then turned and walked into the dressing room. As he changed, he stared at himself in the mirror, his attention not focused on himself. A layer of conflicting fog seemed to shroud his vision. Suddenly coming to his senses, as if against his will, he smiled.

He walked out of the dressing room and Li Suiwen was no longer there.

Hearing footsteps behind him, Bai Shunan knew it was him. Lu Jinfeng walked over and expertly put his arm around Bai Shunan's shoulders. He sat beside him, burying his head in his shoulder, his movements mimicking intimacy. The unbearable imbalance lingered, and with other thoughts in mind, he muttered softly, "You always ignore me."

"..." No matter how many times Bai Shunan experienced Lu Jinfeng's attempts to get close to him, he still couldn't get used to it. For this reason, he always wanted to avoid Lu Jinfeng's contact.

"Every time," Lu Jinfeng raised his head, his fragile eyes, which were faintly filled with anger, flashed with a tiny bit of stubbornness, "you haven't seen me completely once."

Seeing Bai Shunan avoiding his gaze, Lu Jinfeng said softly in a coaxing tone, "Look straight at me, Shunan."

After hearing this, Bai Shunan calmed himself down and looked at Lu Jinfeng without hesitation.

When his eyes met Bai Shunan's, Lu Jinfeng couldn't help but look away out of habit.

Bai Shunan didn't look away. He stared at Lu Jinfeng indifferently. He knew he would avoid him, just like he had done so many times before.

In the two months since they'd been apart, Bai Shunan had begun to see Lu Jinfeng more clearly. Once he was away from him, he saw him even more clearly. He could tell Lu Jinfeng himself didn't know what he was thinking or doing. From his forced movements and stiff contact, Bai Shunan knew Lu Jinfeng was reluctant, a conflict brewing within him, tearing his actions apart.

For this reason, Bai Shunan looked at Lu Jinfeng making a fuss there and gently wiped away his tears.

At the same time, he didn't want to see Lu Jinfeng like this. Bai Shunan felt himself more and more clearly during the exploration. He gradually realized that the true face of the thing he was afraid of was his imagination. Every time he wanted him to feel better, it made him angry. Bai Shunan fell into a kind of thinking of withdrawing from the feeling. Lu Jinfeng just needed another role to get rid of it. Before that role that had never come, Lu Jinfeng just hadn't learned how to stay away from him. Don't worry, he has already thought of a way for him. On that night when he was driving at night, he thought of a way, "Lu Jinfeng, have you forgotten that I loved you?"

Lu Jinfeng didn't behave as Bai Shunan expected. He was unusually calm, his expression cold, and he gently asked the question that had been bothering him for a long time: "Did you really like me?"
