Return trip

Return trip

The church staff woke up Bai Shunan. He walked out of the church, with mist in front of his eyes. He looked at the dark blue sky that was about to dawn and walked slowly on the road.

On the way back, he met Mingyue, who was standing there quietly with her head down, exuding a desolate and cold air. It was unknown what she was thinking, and the distress in her eyes was as obvious as water in a boiling oil pan.

Exploded with a splash.

He called out to Bai Shunan, who was passing by. His expression became slightly restrained, and he put on a polite smile. The coldness grew and faded, and was hidden in his eyes in a clumsy and unpleasant way. His scrutinizing eyes wandered around carelessly. Mingyue extended his hand to Bai Shunan, "Hello."

Bai Shunan shook those hands and greeted them calmly, "Hello."

The two people standing under the street light withdrew their hands almost at the same time, each looking haggard.

"It's getting late, I'll go back first." Bai Shunan recalled Ah Hui's words and had no intention of talking to him.

"You and Zhao Hui," Mingyue directly ignored what Bai Shunan said and asked willingly, "What did you talk about that made you become so familiar with each other so quickly?"

"You mean Ah Hui." Bai Shunan turned around.

"Yes, it's him." Mingyue lowered her eyes. "Did he ask you to call him Ah Hui?"

"Are you Mingyue?"

Mingyue's smile froze, and her brows furrowed slightly. "Did he tell you?"

Before Bai Shunan could answer, Mingyue snorted helplessly. He looked into the distance, a look of dissatisfaction and complacency flashing across his face. He nodded lightly, "It can only be him."

Mingyue turned her gaze back to Bai Shunan, "I'm Mingyue, but few people call me that. My name is Chen Wanyan..."

He paused for a moment and added, "Yan means continuation."

Bai Shunan politely said his name, "I'm Bai Shunan."

"I know. Zhao Hui told me." Chen Wanyan asked the question again, "What did you talk about at that time?"

"We talked about movies, birthdays, and weddings."

"What movie?"

"He didn't tell you."

"Well, no." Chen Wanyan pursed his lips slightly, remembering Zhao Hui's reply of "nothing". When he spoke again, his voice became softer, "He didn't tell me."

"A forgotten paradise."

Bai Shunan's body temperature cooled as he walked through the mist. He walked a little further and could already see a corner of the hotel. He thought of the things he had lost along the way and was reluctant to accept what had happened. Looking at the pale sky, he exhaled tiredly. Bai Shunan returned to the hotel and fell into a deep sleep with soothing thoughts.

He Yu looked at He Qiao sitting across from her and thought back to how they had sat across from each other in the university study room many years ago, and how they had also sat across from each other at meals during their years of living together. For so many years, whenever they looked up, they would always find themselves sitting across from each other.

It had been almost two years since they'd separated. Sitting there, He Yu looked uneasy, but she didn't feel strange at all. Instead, He Qiao's presence eased the panic she'd been experiencing from all the uncertainty. She stubbornly thought He Qiao should be sitting across from her. As usual, she flipped through her bag and handed He Qiao her favorite candy.

It's a habit I've developed over the years, and it hasn't been completely forgotten or changed to this day.

He Yu followed He Qiao's gaze as usual. After watching He Qiao accept the candy, she asked, "Are you okay now? Is the dance class going well?"

"Very good." He Qiao replied.

The two fell silent at the same time.

The train arrived at a station, and a few minutes later, it drove off again. He Qiao looked up at He Yu, "Where's Yun Cen?"

He Yucai then remembered that when He Qiao left her, she had not yet divorced. "We haven't been in touch since the divorce, but a classmate told me not long ago that he remarried, has a child, and is now fully devoted to his family."

He Qiao hung his head in silence, and the two of them were once again at a loss for words. He Yu followed up on He Qiao's previous question and asked, "Where's Qi Ci?"

"You know, I've never been close to him."

He Yu lowered her head. She always tended to forget this.

The sound of the upcoming arrival station sounded several times in the background.

“…I’m about to get off.”

He Qiao looked up at the words scrolling on the screen, "I know."

He Yu smiled and said, "Yeah."

"I still have a long time to go."

"I know." He Yu picked up his luggage, "I'm leaving first."

As the story draws to a close, He Yu gets off the train with his luggage and becomes an unnoticed member of the crowd. Some people get off the train, some get on. He Yu looks back at the train that is about to depart into the distance.

Before the train was about to start, He Yu hurried forward and disappeared into the moving crowd.

Li Xuanyue took a liking to Lu Jinfeng for not attending the premiere. She could understand why he didn't attend the previous events, but this time, she had received the news that Lu Jinfeng's current movie had been completed and he had no other schedules to attend.

Thinking that Lu Jinfeng was deliberately not coming, Li Xuanyue sneered, looked up at Bai Shunan, who hadn't changed much and was even more relaxed, and cursed Lu Jinfeng inwardly several times, calling him a psychopath and a coward. Why hadn't she noticed before that this guy was so timid?

Li Xuanyue thought and planned that as soon as Lu Jinfeng returned to China, she would have Zhan Song arrange for him to run publicity every day, regardless of whether it was domestic or foreign, big or small, and all kinds of things. She wanted to see how long he could delay, but if it took too long... Li Xuanyue picked up her phone and called Lu Jinfeng, but he didn't answer. When the second call was about to start, Lu Jinfeng's voice came over, "What's wrong?"

After saying that, he yawned.

Li Xuanyue gritted her teeth and said, "If you really wait until the movie is over before coming back, then be prepared to never come back again."

The voice on the other end of the phone sounded very tired, as if he hadn't slept for several days. "I understand. I'll get back tomorrow."

"Then I'll pretend I can see you at the event tomorrow."

"OK."

Li Xuanyue was about to say something, but Lu Jinfeng had already hung up the phone.

Lu Jinfeng, too sleepy to open his eyes, got out of bed and drew the curtains tighter. He returned to bed and slept until the third morning, when he woke up starving. Lu Jinfeng opened the curtains, letting in the blinding sunlight. Fragments of the past flashed through his mind, as he always remembered something at such moments.

Lu Jinfeng lay back on the bed and waited for the hotel to deliver breakfast, thinking calmly that he had booked a flight for the evening anyway. He opened his cell phone and looked at the missed calls from Zhan Song and Li Xuanyue, which were too annoying.

At the event, Li Xuanyue, who had waited for a long time before realizing that Lu Jinfeng had stood her up, said: "..."
