Chapter 54: Snowstorm

Jun Haoyue carried her on his back and found a cave in the endless snow and wind.

It was very dark inside the cave. Jun Haoyue groped his way inside and found the wall to put the person down. Xu Xingchen fainted at some point.

Jun Haoyue patted her cheek. Xu Xingchen did not wake up. He was a little anxious and searched around in the cave, but couldn't find even a dead branch or leaf to start a fire.

The wind and snow outside blew through the cave entrance, making a howling sound.

Jun Haoyue gritted his teeth and settled Xu Xingchen down, planning to go out again to find some firewood.

The wind and snow were so strong that if they didn't make a fire to keep warm, they would probably freeze to death before the snow stopped.

He braved the wind and snow and went out into the vast expanse of white.

However, not long after he left, Xu Xingchen's eyelashes trembled and he slowly opened his eyes.

Xu Xingchen looked around in confusion. She was the only one there. She wondered where Jun Haoyue was.

She was full of questions and couldn't move, but the pain in her feet made her give up the idea of moving.

"——Jun Haoyue?"

Unable to get up, she called out to Jun Haoyue, who was traveling with her. She called out several times, but apart from the hollow echo in the cave, there was no sign of any living person.

Xu Xingchen suddenly panicked. Jun Haoyue had never left her alone before. Could something have happened?

But she quickly calmed down. If something happened to Jun Haoyue, how could she still be here so safe and sound?

She suppressed her emotions, turned on the light brain and looked through the system backpack. She clicked the cross in annoyance and shifted her consciousness to look for Mundun'er's cabin.

Munduner was in the tree house, weaving something in her hands. He immediately noticed Xu Xingchen's arrival and jumped onto her with his short legs.

Xu Xingchen patted his son's head lovingly, "Dun'er, your mother is trapped in an unknown cave. Do you have any good things for me?"

Mundun'er blinked his clear eyes, left her arms, searched around with her on his back, and when he turned around again, he was holding a night pearl as big as Xu Xingchen's fist.

Xu Xingchen was a little surprised. She thought Mendun'er would take out a heater or something, but he took out a night-shining pearl...

Looking at the beads that Mendun'er held in front of her, it was better than having nothing. This was the only way she could comfort herself.

Xu Xingchen turned off the light brain, and the night pearl in his hand came into play, emitting a fluorescent light and illuminating the scenery inside the cave.

The cave was empty, with stones scattered on the ground. Judging from the numerous footprints on the ground, Jun Haoyue entered the cave with her and left for some unknown reason.

Xu Xingchen placed the night pearl on a larger stone, hugged his knees and looked at the cave entrance in a daze, with the whistling sound of the wind in his ears.

It was too cold outside and she couldn't bring Mundun out for fear that he would suddenly hibernate. She had to force Mundun to wake up from his accidental hibernation last time.

While waiting, the snow on Xu Xingchen's body melted and soaked her clothes. The longer she sat, the colder she felt. She even hugged her arms and shivered.

Later, she was so cold that she had to take off her wet clothes.

It happened that at this time Jun Haoyue returned to the cave with the firewood he had collected. Xu Xingchen had half of his clothes taken off and hung them on his arm. Their eyes met and they stared at each other.

It was Jun Haoyue who reacted first. He coughed and turned around.

The sound of some jars echoed in the cave: "I've collected some firewood. Wait for me to light the fire first."

A simple sentence let Xu Xingchen know why he was away. She put her wet clothes back on and sat back.

Jun Haoyue shook off the snow on his body and firewood at the entrance of the cave, and used a flint to ignite the fabric torn from the hem of his clothes. The flames quickly jumped up.

But he did not add more firewood immediately. Instead, he used the small flame to dry the firewood. When it was almost dry, he walked a little deeper into the cave and lit the dried firewood.

After building a fire, the two of them sat around it to keep warm.

Jun Haoyue first checked Xu Xingchen's feet. They were slightly swollen, but not very serious.

Xu Xingchen stared blankly at the fire, his eyes gleaming red with flames. "I don't know when this snow will stop."

Jun Haoyue, who was sitting opposite her, broke off a piece of firewood with his hands and threw it into the fire. The flames quickly spread. "Very soon."

"I hope so."

After a brief conversation, the two of them ate some unsold malt sugar to replenish calories.

After eating, Xu Xingchen felt his nose itchy, his eyelids a little heavy, and his head nodding.

Jun Haoyue thought she was sleepy, so he took off his coat and spread it on the ground. "Go to sleep if you're sleepy. I'll be watching outside."

The sleepy Xu Xingchen groaned with hazy eyes, then fell limply on his clothes and fell asleep in a daze.

The cave became quiet, with the occasional "crackling" sound of firewood. Jun Haoyue looked at the fire and unknowingly fell asleep against the wall.

Somehow the wind and snow outside blew into the cave, and the fire near the cave entrance went out. Jun Haoyue, feeling cold, opened his eyes first.

Seeing that the snow was actually blowing into the cave, he planned to wake up Xu Xingchen and move him into the cave.

Xu Xingchen was lying on his side with his back to him. He patted him, but Xu Xingchen did not wake up. He felt something was wrong and stretched out his body to take a look.

Illuminated by the night pearl, Xu Xingchen's forehead was covered in sweat, and his lips were pale and dry. Jun Haoyue's eyes flashed with panic and he straightened him up.

A big palm covered her forehead, and the heat came through the palm.

Xu Xingchen has a fever!

This realization made Jun Haoyue's lips turn pale. He glanced outside the cave. The wind and snow continued. In this state, he could not take the risk of going back with Xu Xingchen.

Jun Haoyue picked up Xu Xingchen, and his touch was full of moisture. He paused and moved the person into the cave, and added firewood to the fire to warm him.

Water absorbs heat when it evaporates, and the fire did not bring warmth to Xu Xingchen. Instead, it made her curl up and shiver, muttering nonsense.

Unable to bear to see Xu Xingchen like this, Jun Haoyue calmed his eyes and made up his mind. He held the person in his arms. The person in his arms moved restlessly, looked a little painful, and was muttering something.

He leaned over to listen, but couldn't understand a word she said. He could only try to calm her down by patting her back as if he was coaxing a child to sleep.

Xu Xingchen gradually calmed down with Jun Haoyue's comfort. Her breathing was a little heavy. Jun Haoyue touched her forehead, which was still very hot.

There was no one around, so he didn't need to hide his emotions. The worry and heartache on his face were obvious.

He wrapped a handful of snow in a handkerchief, melted it by the fire, wrung out the wet handkerchief a little, and placed it on Xu Xingchen's forehead. The coolness on his forehead made Xu Xingchen unconsciously moan softly.

Jun Haoyue's heart tightened slightly, and he held her in his arms again, warming her with his body temperature.

After wetting the handkerchief countless times, Xu Xingchen's fever finally subsided, and Jun Haoyue, who had been tense all the time, slowly closed his eyes.
