Chapter 47 (Forty-Seventh Update)
Forty-seven:
On the first day of the National Day holiday, the Mu family was greeted with a scream.
"Aaaaaah! I'm going to die, Mu Shaowu!" Mu Shaoting stared at her phone, her cheeks puffed up with anger.
Seeing this, Mu Feng asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
"Dad, didn't you see the message in the group chat?" Mu Shaoting picked up her phone and complained to Mu Feng, "Second brother went abroad for fun! He went abroad, and he even took Xiaoxi with him! Why didn't he tell me about something this big beforehand!"
Mu Shaoyan had just come downstairs when he heard this and immediately moved closer to Mu Shaoting, "Second Brother took Xiaoxi abroad for a trip?!"
"Didn't you see the group messages?" Mu Shaoting was speechless.
There are only five people in this group, why don't any of them look at it?
Mu Shaoyan: ...
Mu Shaoyan hadn't actually looked at it. He had just gotten up, and when he opened WeChat, it was full of little red dots.
Mu Shaoyan found it troublesome, so he simply didn't read any of them.
"When did he make that decision? Why didn't he tell me beforehand?!"
"Exactly!" Mu Shaoting said angrily, "I was planning to take Xiaoxi to the amusement park during the holiday, but now I'm all alone!"
"That's right." Mu Shaoyan was also a little annoyed.
A new month, a new allowance. To thank his little nephew for keeping his secret, Mu Shaoyan planned to take Ye Qingxi to buy him a new car while everyone had time. He had his eye on it and decided to buy a convertible sports car, even the kid version would be very cool.
Now look what happened: the money arrived, but the person has disappeared.
"Why didn't you tell me beforehand?" Mu Shaoyan muttered.
"Exactly! And what do you mean we can't go abroad! Get this straight, Xiao Xi isn't just his child, he was adopted by his father, so it's shared property..."
At this point, Mu Shaoting felt that Ye Qingxi, being a living person, couldn't really be considered property.
So she quickly changed her tune, saying, "We have a shared baby!"
Mu Shaoyan: ...
"You might as well just say you have family members."
That's basically the gist of it.
Mu Shaoting snorted, puffing out his cheeks in anger.
Listening to their back-and-forth conversation, Mu Feng thought to himself that it was a good thing Mu Shaowu ran fast, otherwise it probably wouldn't be just the two of them on a trip, but rather the four of them—father, son, aunt, and uncle—on a trip together.
Not bad, Mu Feng thought.
Mu Shaowu was a new father, and having someone around to help him take care of the child made things safer for him.
That's right, Mu Shaowu probably doesn't want to.
He was right. Mu Shaowu was indeed unwilling. Otherwise, would he have informed Mu Feng in advance and sneaked out of the villa like a thief, carrying Ye Qingxi, just as dawn was breaking?
At this moment, Mu Shaowu was sitting happily with his son, admiring the scenery outside the window, and sighing that it was so nice to be alone with his son, and even better without Mu Shaoting and Mu Shaoyan.
Look, he and his son are even wearing matching outfits, hehe.
"Are you sleepy?" Mu Shaowu asked with concern. "If you're sleepy, take a nap first. Dad will wake you up when we're almost there."
Ye Qingxi shook his head. He wasn't sleepy yet, so he was leaning against the window, looking at the clouds outside.
This is a private jet that Mu Shaowu borrowed from a friend.
It's not that the Mu family doesn't have one, but rather that the Mu family's private jets are usually used by Mu Feng and Mu Zheng, and nowadays, Mu Zheng uses them more often.
Therefore, if it is to be used, Mu Zheng will inevitably find out.
Mu Shaowu didn't want his brother to know, fearing that if he did, Mu Zheng would also bring Qin Cheng along.
He could see it now: ever since his brother found out that Qin Cheng was his child, he couldn't hide his desire to make amends. He wished he could work 48 hours straight to make time to pick up Qin Cheng and have dinner with him.
"Let's do it another day," Mu Shaowu thought, "another day when he and his brother can bring the two kids to play together."
He's about to start filming and will be gone for almost four months, so he'd rather spend some time alone with Ye Qingxi, just the two of them.
Only the father and son.
He patted Ye Qingxi's head and looked out the window at the clouds with him.
After flying for about seven hours, the plane finally landed in a warm country.
Ye Qingxi felt hot, so she took off her coat.
Mu Shaowu also took off his clothes, and the father and son instantly revealed their matching outfits, which had finally regained their function as a pair.
"Come on, Xiaoxi, let's take a picture," Mu Shaowu said.
He took out his phone, held it up in front of Ye Qingxi, made a peace sign with his other hand, placed it next to Ye Qingxi's face, and took several selfies with her.
After taking the photos, Mu Shaowu hailed a taxi and took Ye Qingxi straight to the hotel he had booked in advance.
Originally, Mu Shaowu wanted to take Ye Qingxi to the small island he had bought before, but then he considered that a child of Ye Qingxi's age might prefer a crowded and lively place.
The island was nice, but it was too quiet. With only the two of them there, he was afraid Ye Qingxi would get bored.
Anyway, there's still plenty of time. He can bring Ye Qingxi over again later.
Ye Qingxi was unaware of Mu Shaowu's plans. He was currently standing on the balcony of his hotel room, looking at the azure sea in the distance.
It must be said that although the hotel Mu Shaowu booked was expensive, there was a reason for it.
The balcony faces the sea, and you can feel the sea breeze as soon as you open the balcony door. When the balcony door is closed, the room is very quiet and will not be affected by the noise of the sea.
Ye Qingxi was very satisfied.
As he was looking at it, Mu Shaowu asked him, "Are you hungry?"
Ye Qingxi nodded.
They had only eaten one main meal and some dessert on the plane, and were starving by now.
Upon seeing this, Mu Shaowu pulled him out of the hotel.
Instead of eating at the hotel, the two walked along the street where the hotel was located for a while, chose a restaurant that looked well-reviewed, and ordered some local specialties.
This area is rich in coconuts, so there are many coconut-based desserts and drinks.
Mu Shaowu ordered a lot out of curiosity and tried them with Ye Qingxi.
After finishing their meal, the two packed up a few desserts they thought were good, opened two coconuts, and each carried one back home.
Mu Shaowu looked at Ye Qingxi's small hands holding the big coconut and thought it was adorable.
He picked up his phone and took several more photos of Ye Qingxi.
After returning to their hotel room and putting the dessert in the refrigerator, Mu Shaowu took Ye Qingxi to a store that sells swim trunks and slippers.
He bought Ye Qingxi a pair of blue kitten swim trunks and a pair of white slippers before picking out swim trunks for himself.
While browsing, Mu Shaowu saw a pair of dark blue swim trunks with a picture of a big, intimidating-looking cat wearing sunglasses.
Mu Shaowu took it down and looked at Ye Qingxi happily: "This looks like a matching set for the parents, like a father and son."
Indeed, Ye Qingxi thought, even the colors were similar; his swim trunks were light blue, while these were dark blue.
He couldn't help but laugh and picked out a pair of slippers similar to his for Mu Shaowu.
The two played around on the beach. Mu Shaowu took him on a speedboat ride and then took him to learn how to scuba dive.
Ye Qingxi had a great time until sunset, when he went back to the hotel to take a shower, change his clothes, and then went to a nearby restaurant for barbecue.
"They even have barbecue here!" Ye Qingxi exclaimed in surprise.
“There are Chinese people here too. Wherever there are Chinese people, there’s barbecue,” Mu Shaowu said.
When the two arrived, the barbecue restaurant was already bustling. Mu Shaowu pulled him to sit at a small table near the corner and ordered some skewers.
Almost everyone sitting here is Chinese. Hearing the familiar language, Ye Qingxi thought to herself that the internet was right; Chinese people really are the world's largest group of street urchins.
There was a performance at the barbecue restaurant today. Ye Qingxi and her friends were eating when the stage lights up and a beautiful girl in a gorgeous dance dress started dancing. After a while, she brought over her friends and they sang together.
Instantly, the scene became even more lively.
Ye Qingxi felt the liveliness of the scene, listened to the songs, and swayed her head gently to the music.
He was swaying when the waiter came over with a cardboard box.
"The lucky draw is starting, please draw a number," the waiter said with a smile.
"What award?" Ye Qingxi asked, puzzled.
"It's free." The waiter smiled at him. "The boss's wife will come up on stage in a little while and draw a lucky number. Whoever draws the same number as the boss's wife will get a free meal, but each table can only draw once."
Upon hearing this, Ye Qingxi turned to look at Mu Shaowu.
Mu Shaowu laughed and said, "You draw. Kids have good luck, maybe you'll win."
Ye Qingxi didn't believe it, but since Mu Shaowu told him to slap her, he didn't hold back and put his hand inside.
It's a good number: 66.
Mu Shaowu laughed and said, "I knew the kid had good luck. Even if he doesn't win the lottery, this number is still very auspicious."
Ye Qingxi also thought so.
He didn't take it seriously and continued eating his barbecue.
Just as we were almost full, the proprietress finally came onto the stage, smiling and announcing, "Here it comes, here it comes, the grand prize is here!"
Everyone immediately looked at her, waiting for her to draw today's lucky free prize.
The proprietress didn't dawdle; she immediately had a waiter bring the box up to the table, and then reached out and grabbed a slip of paper.
She slowly unfolded it and smiled, "15!"
"It's me! It's me!"
Ye Qingxi turned around and saw a tall boy wearing glasses shouting excitedly.
He clapped enthusiastically, showing no disappointment, only a sense of excitement.
The proprietress smiled and clapped, then said, "When you're traveling, you'll find friends everywhere. I'm so happy to meet fellow countrymen in a foreign land. I'm not stingy with your support and recommendations to my fellow countrymen. Today, I'll give away two more tables for free."
"Okay!" someone immediately shouted in agreement.
"Then let's give away another table, number 66, wishing everyone good luck! And then another table, number 88, wishing everyone prosperity and fortune!"
Ye Qingxi: !!
Ye Qingxi looked at the number she had just drawn, which read 66 in black and white.
Mu Shaowu laughed, "What did I say? I knew it was just the kid's luck! It seems our little Xi is not only a genius baby, but also a lucky one!"
Ye Qingxi chuckled. He hadn't expected to be so lucky, to have the boss add two extra tables, and to have such an auspicious number for him.
"Which table is number 66?" the proprietress asked from the stage.
Mu Shaowu raised his chin, gesturing to Ye Qingxi: "Raise your hand."
Ye Qingxi: ? ? ?
Why don't you lift it?
"Of course it's because your dad is a celebrity. Didn't you see that I deliberately chose the most secluded corner and wore such big glasses?"
Ye Qingxi: ...That's true.
So Ye Qingxi raised her little hand.
Unfortunately, he was short and small, and didn't stand out from a distance.
Therefore, Ye Qingxi simply stood up.
The proprietress saw it then.
"Oh, what a cute little kid! You're so adorable. Auntie will give you two more bottles of coconut juice."
Ye Qingxi: ? ? ?
Ye Qingxi quickly shook her head to indicate that she didn't want to.
However, the waiter still brought it to him and placed it on the table.
"Thank you," Ye Qingxi said obediently.
He gave one bottle to Mu Shaowu and drank the other one himself.
After having eaten and drunk their fill, Ye Qingxi and Mu Shaowu left the barbecue restaurant.
They walked together back to their hotel room.
Mu Shaowu pulled him along, while Ye Qingxi continued drinking the coconut juice she hadn't finished.
Holding hands, Ye Qingxi felt that Mu Shaowu's hands were soft, warm but not sticky.
It's very reassuring.
A warm breeze blew by, making people feel tipsy.
Ye Qingxi looked up and saw the bright moon and twinkling stars.
He suddenly remembered the song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" that Pei Liang had played before.
"Dad, can you sing 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'?"
Ye Qingxi recalled a once-popular parent-child variety show from a long time ago.
However, Mu Shaowu didn't say "No way~" like the theme song of that variety show.
He proudly stated, "Of course."
As he spoke, Mu Shaowu began to sing:
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are! It's a sky full of little stars, hanging in the sky and shining brightly, like many little eyes."
"The sun slowly sank in the west, crows returned home in flocks, and the stars blinked their little eyes, twinkling until dawn."
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star ...
"The moon slowly rises, and Xiaoxi walks home step by step. The stars blink their little eyes, guiding Xiaoxi forward."
Ye Qingxi chuckled, "Dad, when you sang at the New Year's Eve gala before, was it really broadcast live?"
"How could that be? Of course it's pre-recorded." Mu Shaowu said, then realized what he meant and asked, "Ye Xiaoxi, what do you mean by that?"
"No, I didn't." Ye Qingxi blinked innocently. "I'm just curious because I've never heard Dad sing at a New Year's Eve gala before."
Hearing his soft words, Mu Shaowu was easily fooled by his cuteness.
"You'll be able to hear it during the Chinese New Year this year."
"Recorded version?"
Mu Shaowu: ...
Mu Shaowu always felt that his son didn't simply want to hear him sing.
He picked Ye Qingxi up and kissed him on the cheek. "Live broadcast version."
Ye Qingxi: ? ? ? !!!
Ye Qingxi was shocked. "Impossible! With Mu Shaowu's singing voice, a live broadcast?!"
"Dad, why don't you just record it?" Ye Qingxi said sincerely.
Mu Shaowu: ...
Mu Shaowu leaned close to his ear, "Dad will livestream it for you right now!"
As he spoke, he sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" again.
Ye Qingxi listened and silently picked up the coconut juice in her hand and took two sips.
He smacked his lips: "Mmm, sweet."
"Dad, you sing quite well," Ye Qingxi said against her conscience.
Mu Shaowu: ? ? ?
Mu Shaowu was overjoyed; he had thought his son disliked his singing.
"Then Dad will sing you another song!"
Ye Qingxi: ...
Ye Qingxi had no choice but to pick up the coconut juice and continue drinking it.
You can drink lots of coconut juice, but you shouldn't talk too much.
See, his retribution has come.
His poor ears!
However, despite thinking this to herself, Ye Qingxi's lips slowly curled up into a smile.
Although his dad isn't a great singer, he's actually quite adorable.
