Chapter 21 Shi Yu
"Where is this?" As soon as Shen Yu opened her mouth, she realized that her voice was as soft as a mosquito and her throat was very hoarse.
"It's the wounded camp," the old doctor said, "you were carried down from the battlefield."
Chen Yu was silent for a moment, and tried to turn over, but just as she left the bed, she fell down again.
"Don't move."
Shen Yu panted, "I... no, where is General Shen's body?"
The doctor said, "Don't worry about that. His Royal Highness has specially set up a spirit for General Shen, and it is now resting in the tent."
Shen Yu breathed a sigh of relief, only to find at this moment that something was wrong with the touch in her palm.
In his hand was a piece of silk with cloud patterns on it. The cross section on one side was quite neat, as if it had been cut by a sharp blade.
"What is this?" she asked.
The medicine boy happened to come in with medicine and said, "We don't know either. You were holding it when you were brought in, and we couldn't move it no matter how hard we tried."
On the fifth day after the battle, after a few days of treatment, Shen Yu was finally able to get out of bed.
It is said that there were 3,000 wounded soldiers in this battle, many of whom could not hold on, and their bodies were carried out of the wounded camp every day.
The medicine boy failed to stop Shen Yu and let her slip out of the tent. He searched the entire wounded camp but could not find Shen Zhao and Kong Qing.
She knew that the biggest possibility was that the person was dead, perhaps buried under the corpse, or perhaps chopped beyond recognition, but she didn't dare to think about it. As long as the body was not found, she would just assume that Shen Zhao was still alive.
The search was not entirely fruitless.
She saw the injured You Dazui and Yang Bang in the wounded camp. You Dazui was slightly injured, while Yang Bang was more seriously injured. He was stabbed several times, but he was lucky to survive.
"Damn Boda," You Dazui cursed, "Prince Beilin should go and kill them, burn their land, and kill their relatives."
"Watch your big mouth," Yang Bang said weakly while lying on the bed, "Your life was saved by the prince, so stop telling others what to do."
Chen Yu hung her head, and she was completely exhausted. "It's right for the army not to continue the attack. It will be more difficult to fight further west."
No one spoke. After a while, low sobbing sounds were heard in the military tent.
You Dazui wiped his face and said, "Ah Hu and the others are all gone. I watched helplessly as the Xijue people chopped off his head. Woohoo—"
His voice seemed to be a prelude, and soon the tent was filled with cries one after another.
They were all hot-blooded men who did not cry when facing life and death on the battlefield, but could not hold back their tears in such a tragic situation.
Chen Yu propped herself up and slowly stood up. She had felt very depressed these past few days, doubted herself countless times, and woke up from nightmares countless times.
The revenge for their father and brother has not yet been taken, and the culprit is still hiding behind the scenes and living happily. How can they rest in peace?
She couldn't continue to listen to these discouraging words, otherwise she was afraid she would go crazy. She really hoped that there would be someone who could give her a hand like the father in her dream and show her the way forward.
When we came out of the wounded soldiers' camp, it was already dark.
She walked aimlessly, and when she stopped she realized she was outside the tent where her father's body was lying.
The winter in Yanliang Pass is too cold, and the corpse will not decompose even if it is left for many days.
In her previous life, she traveled thousands of miles from Shengjing to carry the coffin. In this life, she wanted to bury her father outside the Great Wall according to his wishes, and float downstream along the Shima River so that her father and mother could be reunited.
There were soldiers guarding the tent and she couldn't get in, so she lifted her skirt and knelt down in front of the tent.
"Dad, I'll keep vigil for you." She whispered in her heart.
The lights in the tiger tent remained on until the second evening drum sounded.
Several deputy generals finished their discussion in Xie Tingzhou's tent and came out one after another.
Chang Heng did not leave at the end, saying: "Those cowards in Shengjing, no one knows where they went during the war, but now that the battle is over, they have arrived in a hurry after traveling 800 miles."
Xie Tingzhou pressed his brows with two fingers, "What is the movement of the Hezhou Lu family?"
Xi Feng replied, "Lu's family sent food before but was blocked outside the city by Liang Jianfang. Now the food and grass have been brought into the city. The head of Lu's family did not come, but their leader said he wanted to see His Highness."
Chang Heng said, "How can His Highness be a mere merchant who can meet you whenever he wants?"
Xie Tingzhou looked at him with a frown, "If Liang Jianfang hadn't sealed off the city, the mere merchants you mentioned would have been able to save tens of thousands of soldiers."
Chang Heng knew that he had said something wrong, so he lowered his head and dared not speak.
The curtain at the door of the tent was suddenly lifted, and Han Jiwu poked his head in, "Old Chang, someone is looking for you outside."
Chang Heng bowed to Xie Tingzhou and left. Voices could be heard faintly from outside the tent.
"General, the man you asked us to look after is not a quiet one. He just got out of bed and he wandered around the wounded camp during the day. He's kneeling there in such a cold weather. He must be sick from kneeling."
Chang Heng was breathing heavily while speaking, "Is that kid sick? Why is he kneeling for no reason?"
The doctor explained: "He is General Shen's soldier, and he is kneeling in General Shen's spirit tent."
"He's so loyal, he must be at least a personal soldier, right?"
"Then you see..."
The curtain was lifted again, Xi Feng held up the curtain, and Xie Tingzhou walked out from inside and went straight to the tent where Shen Zhongan's body was placed.
Chang Heng hurriedly followed, "I will handle this matter myself, why would Your Highness go there in person?"
Xie Tingzhou said calmly: "There are too many doubts in this battle. If they are Shen Zhongan's personal soldiers, they should know something."
There was a torch lit in front of the tent, and sparks were blown all over the place by the wind.
The thin figure knelt on the ground, facing the direction of the tent, motionless.
Xie Tingzhou walked over and looked at the person on the ground, "What's your name?"
Chen Yu raised her head and saw Xie Tingzhou's face for the first time.
What kind of face is that?
The ink-splashed background is embellished with the brightness of the eyebrows and eyes, but the arc at the corner of the eye makes it look cold. One more point would be too bright, and one less point would be too cold.
Hidden beneath the beautiful appearance is probably an intoxicating beauty.
Xie Tingzhou was indeed as stunning as the rumors said, but Shen Yu didn't have time to admire his face at the moment.
When she saw Xie Tingzhou, she suddenly figured out some things.
She had to stand at the center of power, otherwise she would be like a mantis trying to stop a chariot with her own strength, and the person in front of her was undoubtedly the most convenient way at the moment.
"Shiyu." She said, "My name is Shiyu."
In her early years, as a woman, it was inconvenient for her to move around in the army, so she changed her name to Shi Yu.
"It's raining." Xie Tingzhou repeated.
The two words spoken from his thin lips actually added a touch of charm.
He looked towards the tent, "Why are you kneeling to him?"
Shen Yu gritted her teeth and said, "I am General Shen's soldier, and I should see him off to the end."
"Is it his personal soldier?"
Chen Yu considered how to answer this question.
All of Shen Zhongan's personal soldiers have been registered, but none of them are as young as her. But if she is just an ordinary soldier, she will lose her value.
"I am the personal soldier of Major General Shen Zhao."
Xie Tingzhou nodded slightly and ordered: "Bring him here, I have something to ask him."
