When Su Tian returned to the gate of the compound, she ran into Song Zhe, who was driving back.
"Su Tian, get in the car," Song Zhe asked happily.
"You're back after you finished your work." Su Tian opened the car door and got in.
The two drove back to the Song family's house together. When Grandma Song heard the car, she quickly came out to take a look and asked happily, "How did you two end up together?"
"Grandma Song, we met at the door, so we came back together."
"It's good to be back. Come in and eat quickly, Aunt Zhang has already set the table."
"Okay, go wash your hands now, and we'll eat right away," Su Tian said with a smile.
"Let's go in together," Song Zhe called out.
They went inside, washed their hands, and sat down at the table to eat with the two elderly people.
"Sweetie, are you going back to the countryside in a couple of days?" Grandma Song asked, looking at Su Tian.
"Yes, Grandma Song, my vacation is almost over, it's time to go back."
"Then you can have some more fun these next couple of days, and we'll go back when you're done," Grandma Song said softly.
“I’ve finished my work too. I’ll accompany you for the next couple of days, and then we can take the train back to Guangxi together,” Song Zhe said gently to Su Tian.
"Okay, thank you. Let's eat, we'll talk more after we finish." Su Tian said, picking up the food in front of her and starting to eat.
After the two finished their meal, they went for a walk in the courtyard and happened to run into Qin Mu, who was returning from outside.
"Xiao Zhe, Su Tian, out for a walk?" Qin Mu asked first.
“Yeah, cousin, did you just get off work?” Song Zhe asked Qin Mu.
"Yeah, we've been investigating the case of the man who's been hunting down Xiao Jing lately, but we can't find him."
"Xiao Jing was being hunted down? When did this happen?" Song Zhe asked curiously.
"Just a few days ago, he was murdered by someone hired by his team. The accomplice was found, but the mastermind escaped."
"Is Xiao Jing alright?" Song Zhe continued to ask.
"It's alright. Thanks to Su Tian's help, Xiao Jing was able to escape unscathed after those five people were caught," Qin Mu said happily.
"Are you alright? Why would he be being chased for no reason?" Song Zhe asked anxiously.
"I'm fine. I just happened to run into him being chased, so I stepped in to help," Su Tian comforted him.
"I'm going home now, you guys take your time looking around." Qin Mu said, then rode away on his bicycle.
"Where are you planning to go tomorrow?" Song Zhe asked Su Tian, who was standing next to him.
"I'd like to explore some old, distinctive hutongs and alleyways. Would you like to visit these places?"
"Okay, let's go together tomorrow."
The two strolled around the compound before slowly walking back to the Song family home.
The next morning, the sun shone brightly.
Su Tian woke up at nine o'clock, put on a light outfit, put on a coat, and tied her hair in two braids, looking playful and cute.
Song Zhe finished getting ready, and the two of them went out after breakfast.
"How about we ride our bikes?" Su Tian suggested, noticing the bicycles in the corner.
"Okay, whatever you say."
Song Zhe immediately pushed the bicycle in front of Su Tian and said happily, "Come on, get on."
Song Zhe rode a bicycle, with Su Tian sitting on the back.
The two wandered together through the alleyways, the mottled walls bearing witness to the passage of time.
"Have you been to these alleys before?" Su Tian asked Song Zhe.
"No, when I was a child, I was either at home or at school. After graduating from high school, I joined the army."
Although I'm from Beijing, there are many places I haven't visited before, and this is the first time I've gone to this place with you.
"Oh, then you're incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful older sister like me accompany you through the hutongs!" Su Tian teased.
"Yes, it must be the good fortune I earned in my past life that allows such a beautiful girl to accompany me on a stroll through the hutongs," Song Zhe replied happily.
When they arrived at a secluded house, Su Tian asked Song Zhe to stop the car, as she wanted to get out and walk around for a while.
"Why is there no one here? It's so quiet," Su Tian asked curiously.
Just as Song Zhe was about to answer, a slight creaking sound suddenly rang out in the quiet alley.
Su Tian noticed that the wooden door in front of her was slowly opening, and a man was peeking in cautiously.
Su Tian quickly pulled Song Zhe to hide in a corner, and Song Zhe looked at Su Tian, who was almost leaning against him.
His breathing became erratic instantly, and his heart beat faster and faster. He exchanged a glance with Su Tian.
"What's wrong? Why is your heart beating so fast? And your face is red?" Su Tian whispered.
"It's nothing, I'm just a little excited," Song Zhe replied softly.
Su Tian quickly took out the portrait drawn by Xiao Jing from her spatial storage and carefully compared it to the drawing.
"Doesn't that timid-looking man resemble someone in a painting?"
"Yes, it's this person. What's wrong with him?" Song Zhe asked curiously.
"He's the one who hired someone to kill Xiao Jing. Let's follow him and see."
"Okay." Song Zhe nodded.
Afterwards, Su Tian put the bicycle away in the storage space.
So the two of them followed the man carefully, trying their best not to make a sound.
The man wandered through a maze of turns and entered an even more dilapidated courtyard, where another person was also going to Fujian Province.
"You're here. Come in quickly. Is anyone following you?" the man in the courtyard asked.
“Nobody’s here. I’m being very careful,” Zhong Cheng replied.
"Then let's wait a little longer. We should be able to leave in an hour," the man continued.
