Chapter 2

Chapter 2

When the bell rang, Du Jiajia nudged Gu Yuan, who was lying on the desk, and said, "You slept through the morning reading and a class, and you're still not awake."

Gu Yuan buried his head in his arms and said in a muffled voice: "Don't disturb me, I'm so sleepy."

Du Jiajia pulled out a chair and sat down next to her. "Didn't you sleep last night?"

Gu Yuan waved his hand: "I don't know what my mother is watching. She is pulling me to talk in the middle of the night. Go and play with Sister An. I'll take a nap."

Du Jiajia pointed to the empty seat in the back and said, "Sister An, you didn't come today. You must have fallen asleep."

Gu Yuan subconsciously turned around and found that Lin An's seat was indeed empty. "Did she take a leave?"

Du Jiajia shrugged: "Who knows, she didn't tell me anything."

Lin An, whom they were talking about, was wandering around the vegetable market at this time. Her eyes swept across many vegetable stalls and finally stopped in front of a vegetable stall selling eggplants. Gu Nian was half-squatting in front of the stall.

Gu Nian's hands were rummaging through the pile of purple eggplants. The vegetable vendor next to her smiled and said, "Don't worry, these were just brought in this morning. You're a regular customer, so how could I fool you with something that's not fresh?"

But as he watched Gu Nian pick out the new eggplants one by one, the smile on his face gradually froze.

Gu Nian put the selected eggplants into a plastic bag and handed it to the vegetable vendor. The vendor hung the bag on the scale with drooping eyelids and looked reluctant. There was a hint of resentment in his voice when he quoted the price.

She took out her wallet and handed over the money. Just as she was about to pick up the bag and leave, a hand suddenly reached out from behind her and picked up the plastic bag.

Gu Nian turned around and saw Lin An standing behind him. "Don't you have classes at school?"

"Senior, I don't want to beat around the bush."

Gu Nian turned around and walked away. Hearing her words, he smiled and said, "You don't like beating around the bush. Stay with Yuanyuan for a year."

Lin An: "I'm just curious, what's here that's worth breaking the rules for you?"

Gu Nian: "Did you see it?"

"The first one is Gu Yuan's father. He was a policeman. After he died in the line of duty, you poured all your care and concern into Gu Yuan."

"But forgive me for being frank. I've been with her for so long, and I really can't figure out what makes her so special. Is it just for the so-called family affection?"

Gu Nian: "You won't know."

Lin An: "But you know the price of violating the law. I can ask the Inspection Department to forgive you as long as you eliminate the mistakes you made."

Gu Nian snorted coldly and took the plastic bag from her hand: "You don't need to waste your breath here. If you want to take action, just come directly." After that, he turned and left.

Lin An looked at her back and asked, "Why is she suddenly angry?"

Feifei, who was walking behind them, moved to Lin An's side and said, "Sir, what you just said is asking a mother to kill her own child."

"She's changed. This place has really reshaped her."

"Sir, should we take action?"

Lin An waved his hand: "Give her some more time to think it over."

"You should leave now."

"yes"

As soon as she finished speaking, Feifei disappeared. In the bustling vegetable market, the aunties buying vegetables were bargaining as usual, and the vendors' shouts were still heard. No one noticed that the girl who was standing there just now had disappeared.

On the other side, Gu Yuan noticed that Lin An had returned and pulled out a chair in the front row and sat down. "Sister An, you only took half a day off?"

Du Jiajia also came over: "Sister An, what happened at home?"

Lin An casually sorted out the books in his bag and said, "I didn't wake up this morning, so I took half a day off."

Du Jiajia leaned back exaggeratedly and almost fell down: "Oh my God, with such an outrageous reason, you actually got leave?!"

"I called the teacher and he agreed."

Du Jiajia was stunned, and after a long while she managed to utter a sour sigh: "The gap between people, ah ah ah ah ah"

Gu Yuan teased: "The difference between you and Sister An is more than just this? Sister An's exercise book has never been written, and the teacher has never said anything about her..."

Du Jiajia glared at her fiercely, "Alright, stop deliberately stirring up my jealousy, or else if a murder happens in Class 2, Grade 2 of Seventh Middle School, you, Gu Yuan, will be an accomplice."

Lin An looked at the two bickering and suddenly said, "Gu Yuan, can you help me pass on a message to your mother?"

Gu Yuan, who was bickering with Du Jiajia, turned around when he heard the voice, with a smile still in his eyes: "What's wrong? Sister An."

"I'd like to come again after a while."

"Sister An, if you still want to eat at our house, you can leave with me directly after school this afternoon."

Lin An said calmly, "You should go back and ask your mother when it's convenient for her, and then I'll go."

Gu Yuan shrugged slightly, with a helpless tone: "Okay." After saying that, he sighed softly. Even though they have known each other for such a long time, Sister An is still so distant. It always feels like there is an invisible wall between them.

However, Gu Yuan quickly suppressed the feeling of disappointment. This was because Lin An had good upbringing and was very polite.

And to be honest, sometimes she thought of Lin An lowering his head and the tone she used when she rejected others. Those feelings of alienation always made her heart beat.

Unlike the noisy Du Jiajia, Lin An is like a distant mountain wrapped in mist, out of reach, but one can't help but be attracted to her.

When he got home from school, Gu Yuan told Gu Nian directly that Lin An wanted to come again. He thought his mother would agree as usual, but he didn't expect her to refuse.

"Mom, I get it, but I don't want to cook for your classmates during this period."

Gu Yuan sat down next to his mother and rubbed her stiff shoulders: "Are you tired?"

Gu Nian leaned against the sofa and gently closed her eyes: "I have been feeling a little tired recently."

Seeing the tiredness on his mother's face, Gu Yuan simply took off his shoes and knelt on the sofa, massaging her from her calves to her arms.

Suddenly, Gu Nian grabbed her hand and said, "Yuanyuan, stop pressing it."

Gu Yuan loosened his hand and was about to stand up when he saw his mother's face: "Mom, why do you look so bad?"

"It's nothing, I just feel uncomfortable, and I can't tell why."

Gu Yuan stared at his mother's evasive eyes, and his heart skipped a beat: "Is there something wrong with her body?"

“It’s not a physical problem.”

"What is that?"

Gu Nian was silent for a while, and finally shook his head: "Forget it, it's nothing."
