Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Feifei watched Gu Yuan fall to the ground again and slowly squatted down. When she felt the other person's breath, she breathed a sigh of relief, and then simply sat down on the floor, waiting for the person on the ground to wake up.

The door lock made a slight sound. Feifei turned around and saw Lin An pushing the door in.

She stood up. The other party had already hung the key back on the hook in the entrance hall. He walked over and his eyes fell on Gu Yuan lying on the floor.

Lin An said calmly, "I won't wake up for a while."

Feifei: "This difficulty is beyond her current endurance. Your Excellency still intends to let her continue?"

“She wanted to do it herself.”

Feifei pursed her lips and didn't ask any more questions.

Lin An ordered: "Send her back to her room."

Feifei responded, picked up the unconscious Gu Yuan, and turned to walk towards the guest room.

She didn't notice the change in Lin An's eyes when he saw her picking up Gu Yuan.

Gu Yuan, who was in a coma, woke up in the middle of the night. She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling above her head with a dazed look.

She threw off the quilt, got out of bed, and pushed open her door. She glanced at the tightly closed door opposite, walked more lightly, and moved towards the kitchen.

She opened the refrigerator door and felt the cold air rush in. She looked at the bottom drawer and when she opened it, she saw a bag of strawberries lying quietly inside. She guessed that her mother had kept it for her to take to school the next day.

The bitterness in my heart surged up again, and tears suddenly came out.

"What are you doing?"

Lin An came out at some point and saw Gu Yuan staring at the open refrigerator, and asked.

"Do you eat strawberries?"

Gu Yuan closed the refrigerator door, suppressed the moisture that was welling up in his eyes, and there was no abnormality in his voice.

Lin An: “Eat.”

"Then I'll wash more."

Gu Yuan carried the whole bag of strawberries into the kitchen, took out a glass bowl, turned on the faucet and started rinsing them.

The two sat down at the dining table, without turning on the headlights, and ate strawberries one by one in the dim light coming in from the window.

After eating, Lin An picked up the empty bowl and walked into the kitchen. Gu Yuan did not go back to the room, but just stood at the door, watching her back as she washed the dishes.

When Lin An turned around to put the bowl down, he happened to see her dazed look. He paused and asked, "Does your body still hurt?"

Gu Yuan shook his head: "It doesn't hurt anymore."

"Then go back to your room and continue sleeping."

Gu Yuan said, “I can’t sleep.

Lin An looked at her silently for a moment before speaking, "What do you want to know?"

Gu Yuan asked in a low voice: "What kind of person is she?"

Lin An: "Your mother is the most powerful among the first generation of gods."

"Newly born gods in the divine realm will be guided by her for a period of time, taught knowledge, and understood the rules."

"Then why did she come to the human world?"

"Perhaps out of curiosity, and just by chance, there's been no new life born in the Divine Realm for a long time."

"The little gods she taught in the past have already taken care of their duties. There is nothing for her to worry about, so she just wants to come and see the human world."

Gu Yuan whispered, "The human world...isn't as good as your place, right?"

Lin An was slightly startled: "Huh?"

"She's confused."

Gu Yuan's voice was a little trembling: "If you ignore her age, she is also a child. Our teacher said that beggars on the street are all pretending. They might have a house and a car behind them."

"I've told her many times, but she still doesn't want to believe it. Even if she saw it broken, she would still take out the money and go back the next time she saw it."

Lin An called out, "Gu Yuan."

"If she hadn't given birth to me, would she have committed suicide? Someone like her should have lived a long life."

Lin An paused. She wanted to say that God’s lifespan was very long and could not be measured by human time, but she did not speak in the end.

"My birth was a mistake. She gave birth to a monster, a monster that killed her."

Lin An looked at her slightly trembling body and said slowly, "Gu Yuan, she loves you."

"Although I have always been reluctant to admit it, she does love you. Because of your father and you, she truly fell in love with the world."

Gu Yuan raised his red eyes and cried, "Why don't the laws in your place even give me a chance to reform?"

Lin An: "According to you humans, she didn't make a mistake, she committed a crime."

"What crime?" Gu Yuan asked, his voice trembling, "Can you tell me?"

Lin An turned around and faced her with his back: "If you go there, they will naturally tell you. I can't say it."

There were footsteps behind her, and Lin An felt her waist tighten. Gu Yuan hugged her from behind.

"Stay with me, okay?"

Gu Yuan leaned on her back and said with a heavy nasal voice, "Don't leave again. If you leave, I really... don't know what to do."

Lin An's body stiffened, and after a moment he spoke, "I promised her that I would accompany you."

Gu Yuan didn't say anything, but just hugged her tighter, as if trying to grab the last piece of driftwood.

Lin An endured it silently for a while, then patted her arm and said, "Let go."

Gu Yuan slowly let go of his hand: "I'm going back."

Lin An didn't turn around, just nodded.

There were soft footsteps behind him. Lin An turned around only after the door was closed and silence returned to the surroundings.

She was the only one left in the empty living room. She stared at Gu Yuan's door in a daze for a long time, and whispered, "Senior, I regret it. Perhaps I can't bear the weight of a life."

Lin An lowered her head, and her hair hid the emotions in her eyes.

She was a little confused and had no idea that her perception of Gu Yuan had already quietly changed.

From the initial prejudiced human beings, they have truly become lives that need God's protection.

As the sky brightened, there were gradually noises in the community. Old men and women who got up early went out with their vegetable baskets. Sporadic conversations drifted in through the windows, bringing with them the hustle and bustle of life.

After listening to these sounds, Lin An turned and walked towards his room.

On the other hand, Gu Yuan felt more at ease after last night and fell into a deep sleep.

Feifei knocked on the door for a long time, but there was no movement in the house. She looked around and simply walked in with the vegetables she bought from the vegetable market. A faint halo appeared in the middle of the door, swaying gently like water waves.

As soon as she entered the room, the halo gradually faded and disappeared completely after a while.

She stood in the corridor at the door of Lin An and Gu Yuan's room. Lin An's door was closed tightly. She didn't dare to peek in easily, but quietly sent her spiritual sense to Gu Yuan's room.

Seeing that the person was still lying on the bed, she looked around carefully again and confirmed that he was just asleep, then turned and went into the kitchen.

The bag was opened, the fresh vegetables were taken out, rinsed under the tap, and placed in porcelain bowls.

Lin An came out and saw Feifei busy at work. He frowned and asked, "What are you doing?"

Feifei turned around, still holding a rag in her hand: "Sir, I'm washing the vegetables."

Lin An: "Did you buy these vegetables?"

"Yeah," Feifei replied, wiping her hands. "If you're not used to human food, it's okay if you don't eat it, but the little girl has to eat."

Lin An: "I know."

Feifei seemed to remember something and added, "I am also Gu Yuan's teacher now, so I should take on more responsibilities."

Lin An didn't say much, just asked: "Can you do it?"

Feifei smiled: "Of course, sir, have you forgotten? I am a wood elf."

"I'm the best at dealing with these vegetables. I got it right the first time I made them. You can try some later."

Lin An: "Thank you."

"Sir, don't be polite with me." Feifei said as she tied on an apron and started to work.
