CHAPTER 68

CHAPTER 68

"Are you crazy?"

What are you doing sleeping in a coffin?

When Sheng Qing opened her eyes, she was greeted with a barrage of insults and glaring sunlight.

"If you're sleepy, just take a nap." Sheng Qing said nonchalantly, meeting Xu Pei's dumbfounded expression. "What's the big deal? If you want to come, I'll let you."

"Am I crazy? I don't want to." Xu Pei hurriedly took half a step back, looking like he had seen a ghost, as if Sheng Qing would suddenly drag him into a coffin at any moment.

"What are you doing?" Xu Pei frowned as he watched Sheng Qing lean down and kiss Meng Yunxi's forehead.

"A good morning kiss? Never seen one before?" Sheng Qing said nonchalantly, glancing up at the sun high in the sky. "Oh, a good afternoon kiss is fine too."

She didn't know how long she had been lying in the coffin. She only realized it when her hungry stomach started to rumble. It must have been two or three days.

But it's okay, she's not in a hurry, three days is fine.

"What are you trying to do now?" Xu Pei couldn't stand it anymore, so he reached out and stood between Meng Yunxi and Sheng Qing, and pushed away Sheng Qing's hand that was trying to pick up Meng Yunxi.

"Take him away, why do you have to worry about this?" Sheng Qing said impatiently. Why is Xu Pei so annoying? Why didn't I notice him before?

"Oh, right, let me show you my coffin." Sheng Qing raised an eyebrow, waved his hand, and the coffin with its intricate patterns appeared out of thin air. "How about it, isn't it a good thing?" Sheng Qing said with a smug look on his face.

"It's definitely a good thing!" Xu Pei's eyes lit up as he circled the coffin several times. Suddenly, he asked cautiously, "Where did you get this? Are you still being chased?"

"Pursue?" Sheng Qing repeated. Whether they would actually kill them or not was unknown, but they would definitely pursue them. "Never mind that, just tell me if it's good stuff or not."

"Can I open it and take a look?" Xu Pei asked.

“Of course,” Sheng Qing replied generously.

Xu Pei carefully pushed open the coffin, exclaiming in surprise, "What did you put in there?"

Oh dear, I forgot to remind him that there's a beating heart inside.

Sheng Qing laughed sheepishly, "It's your brother Meng's heart."

"How did you find it? I was wondering at the time, how could someone just lose their heart like that?" Xu Pei stroked his chin, looking suspicious.

"I dug it out, of course I know where to put it," Sheng Qing said nonchalantly.

"You? You? You?" Xu Pei's expression changed from disbelief to extreme wariness.

"It's a long story, and it's none of your business, so just leave it alone," Sheng Qing said simply, then bent down and carefully helped Meng Yunxi up.

Do people become lighter after they die? But this is too light.

She could certainly use a cane instead, but she didn't want to.

Sheng Qing felt a pang in her chest and wanted to cry again, but there were other people around, and she felt too embarrassed to do so, so she forced herself to suppress her emotions.

Xu Pei watched quietly until Sheng Qing placed Meng Yunxi into her special coffin, then held her heart in one hand and gestured with the other to Meng Yunxi's chest. "Come back to the Otherworld with me, there's something I need to show you."

"What is that? I'm busy." Sheng Qing abruptly put the heart back into the coffin, sealed the lid, and withdrew it into his sea of consciousness.

Speaking of which, why didn't I smell anything strange while she was lying in the coffin these past few days? Apart from the natural smell of the coffin wood itself, there wasn't even a trace of insects.

"Is this coffin made of some special material?" Sheng Qing closed the coffin lid and picked up an iron shovel to cover it with layers of soil. He then tossed another iron shovel to Xu Pei, saying that everyone who came should get a share, and no one should come for nothing.

"It's just so-so, it can only keep out insects and ants for a few decades." Xu Pei obediently took the shovel and imitated Sheng Qing by adding soil to the coffin. "It's far inferior to yours."

"Of course." She didn't dare say this aloud, for fear that if she let it slip, Xu Pei would run away faster than anyone else.

Furthermore, the more you know, the more dangerous it becomes.

Although Blake wouldn't actually intend to kill her, she couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't ruthlessly kill Xu Pei or other people in the know.

"What are you trying to show me? Hurry up and come back, I have important business to attend to." The coffin had been completely covered. Sheng Qing threw the iron shovel far away, then summoned the power of earth element to repair the ground. In the blink of an eye, the area around the tombstone was back to normal.

"Good stuff." Xu Pei said mysteriously, picking up the fruit in front of the tombstone and tossing it to Sheng Qing. "Eat some to fill your stomach. You could have easily handled this with your damn earth element, but you insisted on digging it up yourself. Are you just bored?"

"Why do you care so much? All I asked you to do was cover it with a few shovelfuls of dirt. You're making a lot of noise." Sheng Qing took the fruit and took a few bites without any politeness. But instead of satisfying his hunger, he became even hungrier.

"Heh." Xu Pei chuckled and picked up all the items in front of the tombstone. "Anyway, the person is gone, so there's no point in leaving them here. Do you still want them?"

"Give me two more, I'm starving." Before Xu Pei could let go, Sheng Qing took two steps forward and picked out the three largest fruits.

"Hey! How come I've never seen this side of you before? You've been hiding it so well," Xu Pei said resentfully.

"That depends on who you are. As for you," Sheng Qing looked him up and down, finally fixing her gaze on the back of Xu Pei's ear, seemingly lost in thought. "No need for that."

"Tch." Xu Pei awkwardly touched behind his ear and quickened his pace. "Let's leave while it's still light out. It's not like you can just leave whenever you want later. You've never seen how lively Mengcheng is at night."

Sheng Qing's heart began to race again. She suddenly wanted to see behind Meng Yunxi's ear to see if there was a zipper-like opening there.

He suddenly shook his head, thinking that if he continued to let his mind wander like this, he might develop hysteria.

Two hours later, Sheng Qing arrived at Xu Pei's laboratory. In front of her was an enormous syringe-like container filled with a green liquid, which surrounded a nearly naked body.

"It's a good thing, isn't it? It's much rarer than your coffin, isn't it?" Xu Pei's boastful expression was obvious.

"This, this is, Meng Yunxi?" Sheng Qing was so shocked that she could hardly speak.

“That’s right!” Xu Pei walked closer to the container and gestured as if to show it. “Look, something’s missing here.”

"Then, what's in the cemetery?" Sheng Qing summoned the coffin, quickly opened the lid, and inside was a beating heart and a person who looked like they were fast asleep.

“This is it.” Xu Pei leaned closer and reached out to touch behind “Meng Yunxi’s” ear for a while. The latter deflated like an inflated balloon encountering a sharp needle, and then a strange-looking little guy crawled out of the shrunken skin.

The little guy's expression was a mix of excitement, curiosity, confusion, and fear as he chattered at Xu Pei in words that Sheng Qing couldn't understand.

“You can’t talk badly about someone in front of them. Is that how I taught you?” Xu Pei pointed to Sheng Qing beside him and smiled helplessly. The little guy seemed to have just noticed Sheng Qing’s presence. He hurriedly shut his mouth, jumped into Xu Pei’s palm, and hid in the wide sleeve.

Sheng Qing chuckled. It seemed her strange behavior these past few days had thoroughly frightened the little one. But she hadn't even complained yet; she genuinely believed it was the captain who...

Now that things have come to this, let's think about how to get Meng Yunxi's heart back in. If it's possible to do so.

"Can it be put back in? If it's put back in, will it still beat? Will he wake up again?" Sheng Qing didn't want to think about it too much. How many miracle doctors would it take to revive someone who had lost their heart and was half-dead after a year?

Although that green solution does have some miraculous effects, after soaking in it for a year, I'm afraid my skin will have developed countless wrinkles.

"Just tell me what you need, and I'll bring it back for you, as long as you can wake him up." Sheng Qing said this without even daring to look Xu Pei in the eye; this request seemed a bit harsh.

"Little ones, come out and get to work." Xu Pei didn't respond directly, but instead walked around the room, waving and beckoning. Then, many little figures jumped out from behind the cabinets, under the desk, and beside the chairs, soon filling the entire room. Sheng Qing stood awkwardly near the door, not daring to move rashly, afraid that he might accidentally step on something.

They hopped and skipped past Sheng Qing's feet, some leaping effortlessly onto the instruments and pointing at the screen. Others, in perfect unison, piled up like mountains and climbed onto the enormous test tubes.

The instrument was turned on, emitting a low rumble. The liquid in the test tube began to boil at a low temperature, churning up countless bubbles. The top of the tube expanded, revealing the port, and the little creatures jumped into the container as if they were going to their deaths, surrounding Meng Yunxi completely.

"What are they doing?" After waiting for a while without seeing any new movement from Xu Pei or the little guys, Sheng Qing couldn't help but ask.

"You want to know?" Xu Pei glanced at Sheng Qing, about to explain, "This involves my area of expertise. First, there's this solution; you know it has..."

"Forget it, just tell me what you're missing," Sheng Qing interrupted Xu Pei's incessant chatter.

"You'll get it if I tell you?" Xu Pei's expression darkened.

"Don't worry about that, just bring it up first," Sheng Qing said.

“I can indeed put the heart back in, but I can’t wake him up.” Xu Pei looked troubled. “Perhaps you can ask your teammates about this.”

"Teammate?" Sheng Qing asked back, her mind also drifting to another person she didn't want to deal with. He probably had a lot of strange but useful things. But she had just escaped; was she really going to obediently hand herself over again?

“Wasn’t that guy surnamed Qin also bedridden, living like a vegetable for so long? I heard he was later revived by something his sister got from somewhere,” Xu Pei explained. “Before, because I lacked a heart, I didn’t think about it in that direction. Now it seems like we might be able to give it a try.”

"No problem," Sheng Qing readily agreed. Fortunately, she had learned about the Qin siblings from another source, so finding them was only a matter of time.

Sheng Qing left the secluded paradise and went to the newly established gathering place mentioned by the unknown members of the thirteenth team, where she met their new leader, Ning Xuanyu.

Her mistress seemed no different from anyone else; her demeanor remained a blend of gentleness and firmness. Just two hours later, Sheng Qing received the information she needed and took her leave.

The Qin siblings now reside in a secret realm called the Kingdom of Mystic Puppets. When Sheng Qing saw Qin Feiyan again, she almost didn't recognize her. Her left eye was covered by an eyepatch, but her right eye smiled brightly when she saw Sheng Qing.

Qin Feiyu, who was next to her, seemed not to recognize Sheng Qing. She was still the same carefree, silly girl, asking her name, age, and then boasting for a while before ending up getting kicked by her own sister.

"Your eyes?" Sheng Qing glanced at Qin Feiyu, whose expression was exaggerated and who was pretending to be injured, as he spoke.

"It has nothing to do with him." Qin Feiyan smiled faintly. "Do you remember when I was kidnapped by that strange man, and then rescued by that handsome young man who took me to take care of you?"

Sheng Qing nodded.

“That person did something to me. I sensed it more or less before the incident in Mengcheng. He was controlling me through my eyes, and that's why there was a riot at the hospital.” Qin Feiyan’s expression fell into deep recollection, then she suddenly smiled with relief. “Never mind, it’s all in the past. There’s nothing to say. Anyway, I’ve gotten rid of him. By the way, what brings you here?”

"It's about the captain," Sheng Qing said.

"Isn't the captain already..." Qin Feiyan asked.

Sheng Qing carefully recounted to the Qin siblings the discovery of Meng Yunxi's heart and seemingly intact body, deliberately omitting her erratic behavior.

“That’s great, but,” Qin Feiyan’s expression turned from joy to worry as she looked at Qin Feiyu, “but there will always be a day when it recovers.”

"I think I can remember some of it now," Qin Feiyu said with dissatisfaction.

“I’ll take you to find the Puppet Master. She has an eccentric personality, but she’ll help if you meet her requirements.” Qin Feiyan paused, then took Sheng Qing’s and Qin Feiyu’s hands respectively. “But we’re on the same team, shouldn’t we do something for our captain?”
