Chapter 43 First Battle in a Desperate Situation, Feelings Begin to Sprout

"Damn, this thing is even more annoying than a mosquito!" Lin Yi used a teleportation technique to barely dodge a beam of energy that flickered with a ghostly green light. The thing flew past his hair, and the air was instantly filled with a burnt smell, which made his heart pound.

"Report to the captain, the enemy's vanguard force is larger than expected, with an initial estimate of over five thousand! And it's still increasing!" Chu Yao's voice rang out in the communication channel, carrying a hint of barely perceptible tension. She followed closely behind Lin Yi like a dutiful little tail, afraid that something might happen to him.

"Five thousand?! Did Night Owl empty his pockets?!" Lin Yi couldn't help but swear. This amount was simply outrageous!

While rapidly analyzing the battle situation, he directed his teammates to defend: "Ryugo, transform! Hold off the pressure on the front line! Whitebeard, cover the flanks! Aizen, stop slacking off! It's your turn to shine!"

With a roar, Long Wu burst forth with golden light, instantly transforming into a majestic golden dragon. He charged into the enemy ranks, baring his fangs and brandishing his claws. With each swing of his dragon claws, he stirred up gusts of wind, flinging away any approaching enemies like rag dolls.

Whitebeard, like an impregnable city wall, firmly guarded the flanks, wielding his giant axe and felling the enemy like vegetables.

"Tsk, these guys are really troublesome." Aizen's lips curled into a cold smile as his figure flickered erratically, moving across the battlefield like a ghost, occasionally firing a sneak shot to harass the enemy and pick off any stragglers.

"Enemy energy cannon at 3 o'clock, preparing to charge!" Chu Yao's voice rang out again, tinged with urgency.

"Received!" Lin Yi's mind stirred, and the power of spacetime erupted instantly. He transformed into a blur and flashed in front of the energy cannon. The [Spacetime Blade] drew a silver-white arc and accurately struck the core of the energy cannon.

With a deafening boom, the energy cannon exploded into countless fragments before it could even fire.

"Great!" Long Wu roared excitedly, his morale soaring.

Lin Yi dared not let his guard down for a moment; this was just the beginning, and the real battle had only just begun.

He felt Chu Yao's hand gently grasp his, the soft touch sending a shiver through him.

"Be careful." Chu Yao's voice was soft, but it carried an undisguised concern.

Lin Yi turned to look at her, and saw his reflection in her clear eyes, her gaze seemingly holding a thousand unspoken words.

A warm feeling suddenly welled up in his heart. On this cold battlefield, there was someone who was silently caring for him. It felt so good.

He gripped Chu Yao's hand tightly in return, a faint smile playing on his lips: "Don't worry, I'll be fine."

Just then, Lin Yi suddenly felt an unusual energy fluctuation. This fluctuation made him feel very uncomfortable, as if he were being stared at by a venomous snake.

He turned his head sharply in the direction from which the energy fluctuations were coming, but found nothing.

"What's wrong?" Chu Yao noticed his unusual behavior.

"I feel... like something is watching us from the shadows." Lin Yi frowned, a sense of unease rising in his heart.

"Spying?" Chu Yao looked around in confusion, but she didn't notice anything unusual.

"Hmm, it's a very strange feeling, I can't quite put my finger on it." Lin Yi shook his head. He felt that something was wrong, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

He glanced instinctively at the other side of the battlefield, where Xuan Mingzi should have been, but now, the place was empty.

"Where is Xuanmingzi?" Lin Yi's heart sank suddenly, and a terrible thought flashed through his mind.

Could it be... that this ambush is related to Xuanmingzi?

Just then, the shadowy figure moved.

He appeared as if from nowhere, silently appearing behind Lin Yi, holding a jet-black dagger in his hand, and suddenly thrusting it towards Lin Yi's back.

"Watch out!" Chu Yao exclaimed, shoving Lin Yi away abruptly.

"Thud!" The dagger pierced Chu Yao's shoulder, and blood instantly stained her clothes.

"Chu Yao!" Lin Yi's eyes were bloodshot as he caught Chu Yao as she fell.

The dark figure sneered and vanished into the void once more.

"Lin Yi... I'm fine..." Chu Yao said weakly, a bitter smile on her lips.

"Damn it!" Lin Yi hugged Chu Yao tightly, his eyes burning with rage.

He looked up at the sky.

"Night Owl, Xuanmingzi, you two just wait!"

Lin Yi held the injured Chu Yao in his arms, his anger almost bursting out of his chest.

He quickly settled her in a relatively safe location, then looked back at the battlefield. He saw that the vanguard's offensive was becoming increasingly fierce, with integrated-level enemies surging in like a tide, compressing their defensive lines smaller and smaller.

"Long Wu, can you still hold on?" Lin Yi asked loudly through the communication channel, his voice filled with unwavering determination.

“No problem, but there are more and more of these ghostly things!” Long Wu’s voice was slightly out of breath, but still full of determination.

His golden scales shimmered under the bombardment of the enemy's energy, and each swing of his dragon claws brought forth a huge hurricane.

"Whitebeard, how are your injuries?" Lin Yi asked immediately.

"Crack!" Whitebeard swung his giant axe, felling several enemies, and said, panting heavily, "We can still hold on, but we need to find a way to break through as soon as possible!"

Lin Yi's eyes quickly swept across the battlefield. Suddenly, he noticed that Aizen was calmly observing his surroundings, as if searching for something.

Lin Yi walked to his side and asked in a low voice, "Aizen, have you noticed anything wrong?"

Aizen raised an eyebrow, a glint of light flashing in his eyes: "I also find it a bit strange. Xuanmingzi hasn't appeared at all, which is completely illogical."

"That's what I think too," Lin Yi replied in a low voice, his suspicions growing stronger.

Just then, the vanguard launched an even fiercer attack, with energy cannons and light blades weaving into an impenetrable net that completely surrounded their position.

"Attention everyone, prepare for an even stronger offensive!" Lin Yi's voice, like thunder, pierced through the clamor of the battlefield.

He took a deep breath, and just then, a cold laugh came from the void: "Lin Yi, you're doomed to lose this round."

Lin Yi turned his head sharply, his gaze cold, and his heart was filled with endless anger and determination.
