Chapter 280 Settled Down

The inner courtyard was quiet, with only the lanterns on the eaves emitting a faint light.

In the corner courtyard of the outer courtyard, candlelight was still burning.

"Sir, are we going to stay here forever?"

The servant boy beside Liang Wenxuan was named Liang Shan. He was strong and powerful and knew some martial arts.

He had been following Liang Wenxuan for several years, originally not as a close attendant, but as a bodyguard.

He also participated in the last battle.

The situation was critical; they had fallen into a trap, and the enemy's real target was the people behind them.

Liang Wenxuan's personal servant took a fatal arrow for him, which gave Liang Shan the opportunity to carry his wounded master back.

"If the Jiang family's children can accept us, then we'll settle down here."

"We can't go back to the Northwest."

"Sir, aren't you going home?"

"I'm not going back. I have no home anymore."

Liang Wenxuan didn't want to bring up those things, so he gestured for Liang Shan to wipe his feet.

The doctor prescribed a formula for him to soak his feet every day.

He had been soaking his legs for a while, but he still couldn't feel them.

Liang Shan acted quickly, wiping the gentleman's feet and pouring him water.

“Sir, Butler Li sent over an item earlier, saying it was for you to use in the toilet. I put it in the bathroom.”

Liang Shan had just remembered what Steward Li had told him, and quickly told his master.

"Push me over there to take a look."

Liang Wenxuan didn't know what it was. In order to avoid going to the outhouse as much as possible, he tried not to drink water, as it was too troublesome and uncomfortable.

Liang Shan lifted the gentleman into a wheelchair and pushed him to the clean room, showing him the thing that looked like a chair but wasn't.

Liang Wenxuan understood; this was specially prepared for people with mobility issues.

A circular hole is made in the top of a bamboo chair, and a chamber pot is placed underneath so that one can sit and relieve oneself.

"Sir, would you like to try it?"

"Try it out, then go to sleep."

Liang Shan helped the gentleman sit down in the chair, and was quite thoughtful, wrapping the chair with soft cloth around his sides.

This was specially made by Butler Li, following the original design.

"Alright, go wait outside. I'll call you when it's ready."

Liang Wenxuan can finally use the toilet freely; otherwise, having someone next to him is really uncomfortable.

First time using it, and it feels pretty good.

Lying in an unfamiliar room and on an unfamiliar bed, Liang Wenxuan forced himself to sleep, but his mind remained wide awake.

The next day, Liang Wenxuan woke up at the crack of dawn. He asked Liang Shan to fetch water for him, and after washing up and changing his clothes, he went to see his students.

Li Dahu, who was staying in the side room, also got up and followed his teacher to the training ground.

Just as they left the courtyard, Guan Changshan arrived and was led in by Old Man Wei.

Once everyone was gathered, Master Zhao also arrived. They had met yesterday, and Butler Li had instructed him to take good care of the group.

"Mr. Liang, Shao Yun and the others will be out soon."

As soon as Master Zhao finished speaking, Shao Yun and Shao Ming followed Jiang Shuyun out of the hanging flower gate.

"Master."

"Mr. Liang, Master Guan, Master Li, this is my son. I hope you will take care of me in the future."

Jiang Shuyun instructed Shao Ming and Shao Yun to pay their respects to the gentlemen.

"Greetings, sir. I am very polite."

Shao Ming and Shao Yun kept their eyes straight ahead and performed the junior's greeting properly.

"Let's go to the training ground."

Jiang Shuyun didn't go with them, letting them work things out together.

The western corner courtyard has been converted into a training ground; it's not a large area, but it's not small either.

"We've come here today to say hello and tell you what we can offer you."

When Liang Wenxuan began to speak, Shao Ming and Shao Yun stood respectfully, listening to their teacher.

"I know some formations, astronomical observation, food and fodder allocation, and how to make battle plans, etc."

Master Guan, he's a scout.

Master Li, he was once the most skilled cavalryman, and he's in charge of teaching you riding and horsemanship.

Shao Yun's eyes started to sparkle; his father had brought together the most capable people from the most important parts of the army.

"Don't worry, sir, I will definitely learn the skills diligently."

Shao Yun was very excited and bowed with his fists clasped in a rather awkward manner.

"Mr. Lao taught me from then on."

Shao Ming heard from his father that Mr. Liang was well-read and had traveled to many places, and genuinely wanted to learn something beyond the imperial examinations.

"Okay, we'll start classes tomorrow, after dinner."

In the morning, Master Li will teach you horsemanship for the duration of an incense stick burning; the rest of your practice will continue as usual.

Liang Wenxuan has seen the students and thinks they're quite good. Both children have very positive eyes.

Liang Shan pushed Mr. Liang in front, with Li Dahu and Guan Changshan following behind.

Zhao Wu watched the four people leave, only one of whom was physically healthy, and he felt quite uneasy.

"Alright, you guys come here, let's go through the stick techniques we learned yesterday."

Not only Shao Ming and Shao Yun practiced martial arts together, but also the other boys, Jiang Mo and Jiang Yan, Li Qiang, and the Wei Dong brothers.

The Jiang family has several servants of all ages. When these children grow up, they will be an asset to Shao Ming and Shao Yun.

The training ground in the West Corner Courtyard became lively, and several people from the East Corner Courtyard were also talking.

"Brother Guan, how are you? Are you settling in? How about your wife and the children? Are they getting used to it?"

"Everything is fine. We have everything we need in our little courtyard. The neighbors next door are also very kind. They brought us food last night and this morning."

The small courtyard is neat and tidy, more than enough room for our family of four.

Guan Changshan had a relaxed expression on his face. He hadn't expected that the accommodation provided by his employer would be so to his liking.

"That's good. Now we don't need to go back to the Northwest anymore. Let's treat this place as our hometown."
