The Mu family had servants and relatives in the courtyard, and they finished moving everything in no time.
Li Qiuniang locked the door and handed the key to her second sister-in-law.
"Sister-in-law, this is my mother and sister-in-law."
"Mother, sister-in-law, this is my sister-in-law, Li Qiuniang."
"Hello, Auntie! Hello, Sister-in-law!"
Li Qiuniang quickly greeted them, as she had never met her second sister-in-law's family before. Her marriage was recent, and whenever her second sister-in-law's family came to visit, she was never there. She was either at her parents' home or out on business; in short, she always managed to avoid them.
"Good, good, this must be Shuwen's wife. I've often heard Yi'an mention her. She's such a genuine girl."
Mother Mu praised her repeatedly, knowing that this was Yi'an's sister-in-law who was on good terms with her.
The group didn't stay inside for long; there were other people helping out in the yard.
Jiang's mother greeted Mu's mother who came out, and they introduced the relatives to each other, making the courtyard lively. One after another, several main dishes were prepared, and their aromas wafted out.
Jiang Qi stayed inside watching the child; Mu Yi'an didn't want her to face a bunch of curious people. Divorce wasn't wrong, but everyone has a gossipy nature.
Jiang Lan was also inside, neither looking after the child nor going out to help. Instead, she was thinking about what her aunt had said, wondering if there was still any possibility.
A feast was set up in the living room, where Jiang's father ate with Lin, the village head, relatives, and Mu Yi'an's father and brothers, while the others ate in the courtyard. The weather was cool and pleasant, neither too hot nor too cold.
The three tables were filled with adults and children.
The banquet at Mu Yi'an's house was quite good. There was chicken stew with mushrooms, braised fish, stewed potatoes with meat, cold dishes, stir-fried vegetables... There were both meat and vegetarian dishes. It was a pretty good feast in the village.
Jiang Shuyun poured wine for each elder and raised her glass to express her gratitude.
There wasn't much conversation in the courtyard; everyone was hungry and focused on eating, not bothering to inquire about Jiang Qi. After all, it was rare for a rural family to have such a fine feast.
The table was full of food, and everyone ate to their heart's content, so there wasn't much left.
The last bit was given to the auntie who helped with the cooking to take home. Everyone helped clear the dishes before they dispersed.
"Yi'an, Shuyun, we're going back now. We just moved and there's a lot to do. I'll come over when you're done."
Mu's mother patted her daughter's hand, saying, "That's good. You'll be in charge of your own household from now on."
"Shuyun, from now on you will be in charge and able to take charge on your own. If anything happens, just let me know."
Mu's father didn't give him too many instructions; they weren't children anymore.
After seeing the Mu family off, the courtyard quieted down. The children were all taking their afternoon nap. Mu Yi'an and Jiang Shuyun exchanged a glance and understood each other's meaning. Their new life was about to begin!
