Chapter 28 Are you interested in becoming my son-in-law?

Luo Shimiao led Gu Nian directly to the study on the second floor.

As the girl searched the shelf, she said, "This is my mother's study. I remember she brought back a nice landscape painting a few months ago."

The man looked at Luo Shimiao's guilty expression and pressed his temples.

Luo Shimiao opened an exquisitely carved wooden box, took out the painting inside, unfolded it, and her eyes lit up: "This is it, isn't it nice?"

Gu Nian opened his mouth. If he remembered correctly, this was "Exploring the Hidden Mountains in the Clouds" by the famous painter Zhang Zhicheng from the ancient Kingdom period, and it was worth tens of millions.

Gu Nian: "Shi Miao, this is too expensive, choose something else."

Luo Shimiao rolled up the painting: "This one? I don't think my mother's collection of paintings would be cheap."

Gu Nian rubbed his forehead: "You just give away a painting worth tens of millions of dollars like that? Aren't you afraid your mother will find out and beat you up?"

“It’s okay, I’ll take a picture of the painting and make a copy when I have time, then quietly put it back. Anyway, she has so many paintings, she won’t notice.”

Gu Nian: "........."

"Let's go, let's go, we'll be late." Luo Shimiao packed the painting into a wooden box and carried it away with the box.

Luo Shimiao tiptoed out, looking around nervously.

As I walked into the living room on the first floor, a soft voice drifted down from the second floor.

"Miaomiao".

Upon hearing this voice, Luo Shimiao froze on the spot, mechanically turning around to look at the woman who was walking down slowly, dignified and elegant, with a refined and graceful demeanor.

Her lips trembled slightly: "Mom...Mom." Remembering what she was holding, she immediately hid it behind her back.

She forced a smile that looked more like a grimace: "My dear, beautiful, and gentle mother, when did you return? Didn't you let your daughter know so I could come back to serve you?"

Ye Shujun walked gracefully in an apricot-colored cheongsam. Although she was over 50, time had not left many marks on her face.

Ignoring her daughter's flattery, she walked straight up to Gu Nian and looked the young man up and down: "You're even more handsome in person than on TV. Your name is Gu Nian, right?"

"Yes, Auntie." Her already upright posture became even more upright.

Yeh Shu-Chun: "How old are you this year?"

Gu Nian: "25."

Ye Shujun nodded, saying that being five years older wasn't a big deal.

How tall are you?

"189".

Yeh Shu-Chun: "How many relationships have you had?"

Luo Shimiao couldn't stand it anymore: "Mom, are you checking my household registration? Where's your usual manners?"

Ye Shujun glanced indifferently at her sulking daughter: "When adults are talking, children shouldn't interrupt."

Luo Shimiao: "………………"

Gu Nian suppressed the upward curve of his lips and said seriously, "Auntie, I have never been in a relationship."

"Gu Nian, are you a monk?" Luo Shimiao looked at him in surprise. He was 25 years old and had never been in a relationship.

Ye Shujun was even more satisfied, and looked at Gu Nian with loving eyes: "Your appearance and family background are both top-notch. Judging from your performance on the show, your character is also good. You are a man who knows how to take care of people. Young man, are you interested in becoming my son-in-law?"

Luo Shimiao stared at her mother in astonishment: "Don't scare her." She looked apologetically at Gu Nian: "I'm sorry, my mom sometimes isn't very good at this." She pointed to her head.

Ye Shujun gently tapped her daughter's head: "What do you know? I'm finding you a husband. Do you want to be like your third brother? He's 26 and still single. Look at your eldest and second brothers, how successful they are."

"Ah Nian is good in every way. A man like him is hard to find even with a lantern. You've got the opportunity right in front of you, and you still don't know how to cherish it?"

Luo Shimiao hid behind the man. Here we go again, here we go again. Tang Sanzang is about to recite the Tightening-Headband Mantra again.

Ye Shujun shifted her gaze to Gu Nian, a smile on her face, awaiting his reply.

Gu Nian met Ye Shujun's gaze, his eyes sincere: "I couldn't ask for more."

"Good, good, good." Ye Shujun's smile grew wider and wider; if no one were around, she would probably burst into laughter.

Ye Shujun pulled Luo Shimiao out from behind Gu Nian, opened the wooden box, and unfolded the painting.

Luo Shimiao hurriedly explained, "Mom, I borrowed it to play with, I'll return it to you in a couple of days."

Ye Shujun carefully put the painting away and handed it back to her daughter: "It's the style that Grandpa Gu likes. Go on, don't be late."

"You know today is Grandpa Gu Nian's birthday?" Luo Shimiao asked, somewhat surprised.

Ye Shujun looked at her daughter helplessly: "Everyone in Kyoto with any status knows that your grandfather goes there too. I went to see your grandfather yesterday, and he kept talking about you. Go visit him more often when you have time."

Luo Shimiao: "Yes, Mother. We'll be going now."

Ye Shujun frowned, looking at her daughter's ripped jeans and white short-sleeved shirt, and said disdainfully, "You're going to wear this?"

"There's no time to change, we'll be late if we dawdle any longer." Luo Shimiao grabbed Gu Nian and ran off without looking back.

After getting into the car, Luo Shimiao patted his chest with lingering fear: "That scared me to death. I thought this day next year would be my death anniversary."

"By the way, don't take what my mom said to heart, she was just joking."

The man's dark eyes gazed at the girl's delicate face: "I took it seriously."

Luo Shimiao swallowed hard, trying to convince herself that it was all fake, just a joke.

The Gu family's old house.

Luo Shimiao got out of the car and saw that the parking lot was full of luxury cars. He handed the wooden box in his hand to Uncle Hong.

Gu Nian took the girl's hand and walked towards the gate.

"You're taking advantage of me again. I can walk by myself." Luo Shimiao pulled her hand away.

Gu Nian smiled faintly: "I was afraid you would be scared."

Luo Shimiao: "Are you kidding me? I'm not even afraid of my shrew mom, why would I be afraid of a bunch of complete strangers?"
