"Miss...Young Master Shen...is coming this way."
The girl's loud voice gave Gu Baiwei a headache. She slowly opened her eyes and found herself standing by the water.
The spring sun shines brightly, the water flows gently at our feet, and silver fish tumble and roll in the water, creating ripples that shimmer in the sunlight.
In this completely unfamiliar setting, her long eyelashes drooped slightly as her gaze fell on the light green ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress) she was wearing. Her eyes paused for a moment. Was she filming a movie? Or was she in period costume?
A young maid, with her hair styled in two buns and dressed in a pink dress, rushed up to her and stood there, her cheeks flushed red. She was panting heavily: "Quick...quick...Miss, we're almost there."
"Fast what?" Gu Baiwei was full of questions.
Then, just as she was filled with confusion, her body moved on its own.
With a feigned fall, the pretty girl in the light green dress clutched her slender, fair ankle and groaned softly, "It hurts so much..."
The maid silently gave her a thumbs up. Hearing the approaching footsteps behind her, she immediately darted into the woods behind her with remarkable agility, leaving Gu Baiwei completely bewildered.
"Miss Gu?"
A man's clear voice rang out from above her head. She looked up, and the sunlight streaming down from behind him was so dazzling that she couldn't help but squint.
A young man dressed in white bent down slightly and extended his slender, jade-like hand to her.
His hands were beautiful, with well-defined, long, and strong fingers.
The dark hair, secured with a jade hairpin, slipped down with each movement, shimmering faintly in the sunlight like the finest silk.
He was indeed a handsome young man, but unfortunately, the sunlight was too dazzling, and she couldn't see his face clearly at all...
"Miss? Miss?"
As she struggled to make out the man's face, an anxious voice boomed in her ear like a demonic whisper.
She jolted awake, slowly opening her eyes, her delicate brows furrowing slightly in displeasure. She hadn't even seen the young man's face yet; who had woken her up?
I groggily opened my eyes and saw a magnified round face in front of me.
Her face was round and chubby, and even at such a close distance, she could clearly see several freckles on it, as well as a small black mole on her cheek near the bridge of her nose.
"ah!"
She sat up abruptly in bed, her beautiful dream vanishing in an instant.
"The gentleman is waiting for you downstairs to have breakfast together."
The girl blinked innocently, completely unaware that she had frightened someone.
"Sir? What sir?"
Gu Baiwei frowned.
Xiaoyu nodded immediately, then asked with a puzzled look, "Miss, you haven't forgotten again, have you?"
Seeing the confusion written all over her fair and pretty face, Xiaoyu sighed helplessly: "Mr. Shen is your adoptive father, have you forgotten?"
"Foster father?"
Gu Baiwei chewed on the unfamiliar word in her mouth, her head aching but she still couldn't remember having such an adoptive father. Could it be that she had amnesia again and had forgotten?
She followed Xiaoyu downstairs with some skepticism. The long solid wood dining table downstairs was filled with exquisite breakfasts.
A refined-looking middle-aged man sat at the head of the table.
The man looked to be in his forties, wearing black half-rimmed glasses, with faint fine lines at the corners of his eyes from the passage of time.
He heard the voice, smiled, and looked up at her, his fox-like eyes filled with concern: "Weiwei, you're up?"
The man's extremely concerned tone made Gu Baiwei a little stunned. To be honest, his face looked quite familiar. Could he really be her adoptive father?
But she couldn't remember anything, and when she couldn't recall it, she simply stopped thinking about it.
Looking at the exquisitely arranged food on the table, she hesitated for a moment before tentatively calling out, "Dad."
Shen Xiangsong smiled warmly and said, "Yes, let's eat quickly, it's getting cold."
His facial expression was natural, showing no sign of anything unusual.
Gu Baiwei suspiciously observed him for a moment, then sat down in a spot some distance away. For some reason, although he seemed gentle and refined, he gave her a very dangerous feeling.
Subconsciously, she felt that her adoptive father was not as gentle and harmless as he appeared on the surface.
However, there is no evidence at the moment, and everything can only be her speculation.
She lowered her eyes and softly thanked them, "Thank you for your concern."
After thanking him, he reached for his chopsticks and picked up some food, subtly observing the plate on which Chen Xiangsong had placed his chopsticks. He only touched the dishes that Chen Xiangsong had touched, without even taking a sip of the porridge in front of him.
Shen Xiangsong was also silently observing her. Noticing her movements, he raised an eyebrow slightly but said nothing.
The meal ended quickly, and Shen Xiangsong stood up, his face still bearing the concerned smile of an elder: "Weiwei, I've called Dr. Chen over later to have him examine you again and see how your recovery is going."
Gu Baiwei never eats much in the morning, and she put down her chopsticks before Shen Xiangsong did.
She looked up at him with some confusion: "Dad, I don't feel uncomfortable anywhere, so there's no need to trouble Dr. Chen, right?"
"You child, you still say you're fine? Look at how distant and polite you are when you talk to me, it's obvious that your memory hasn't fully recovered yet."
Gu Baiwei paused slightly, feeling a strange sense of unease about the whole affair.
But since the situation is still unclear, she can only wait and see.
Shen Xiangsong sighed and walked up to Gu Baiwei with the concern of an old father: "Weiwei, when Dr. Chen arrives, cooperate well with the treatment. I believe you will recover soon."
As he spoke, he reached out to touch Gu Baiwei's head, but she instinctively dodged away. He could only smile and shake his head: "You silly child, never mind. You can't remember many things now, so Dad doesn't blame you."
After saying that, he instructed Xiaoyu, "Take good care of Miss."
"Weiwei, I'm going to work now. Call me anytime if you need anything."
After instructing Xiaoyu, he smiled and waved to Gu Baiwei, then picked up his briefcase and strolled away.
He looked just like a dutiful and responsible old father.
Gu Baiwei stared at his back for a long time until it disappeared through the door before silently turning around and going upstairs.
Upon seeing this, Xiaoyu immediately tried to follow, but was ruthlessly blocked by the locked door.
She touched her nose, a hint of disdain flashing in her eyes, and then swayed her hips as she went downstairs.
As the footsteps outside the door gradually faded away, Gu Baiwei's tense body instantly relaxed. She picked up her phone and looked through it, only to find that apart from Shen Xiangsong and Dr. Chen, there was no one else in her contacts.
Even his WeChat friends are few and far between.
When I opened my WeChat Moments, there was only one post from yesterday with a picture of a bunch of sunflowers. There was no text, just a bright smiley face and a little sun icon.
Her brows furrowed instantly. Something was wrong. Even if she had terrible interpersonal relationships, she couldn't possibly have no acquaintances at all, could she?
Subconsciously, I always felt that she should have friends.
Just as she was frowning in thought, there was a gentle knock on the door, and a young man's voice came from outside, gentle: "Miss Gu, I'm Dr. Chen, may I come in?"
