The woman lay quietly in the ice coffin, her hands folded over her abdomen, in a very peaceful posture.
Her skin was so pale it was almost bloodless, and her lips were also a little white, but because of her delicate and beautiful features and serene eyes, she looked more like she was asleep.
Perhaps because of this, Gu Baiwei's fear lessened a bit, and she curiously took a few more glances.
Upon closer inspection, I was startled.
The woman in the ice coffin looked about six or seven parts similar to her, only she looked a bit older, around thirty years old.
Looking at that face, she felt a strange sense of familiarity.
As I stared blankly, I suddenly heard a click from behind as the door opened, the sound unusually clear in the otherwise quiet room.
Gu Baiwei was startled. She quickly scanned the area and her gaze landed on the altar.
He hesitated for a second, then rushed over, lifted the tablecloth, and crawled inside, grabbing the calico cat that was happily eating on the offering table.
A dark red tablecloth was laid on the altar, its length just enough to completely cover what was underneath.
She knew this was not a safe hiding place, but apart from the ice coffin and the altar, there was nowhere else in the dark room to hide.
The candlelight in the room was dim, and it should be quite discreet unless you specifically lift the tablecloth to check.
The calico cat was still thinking about the food on the offering table, so naturally it wouldn't let her hold it quietly.
It frantically waved its claws, trying to leave, and its sharp nails instantly scratched two bloody marks on the back of Gu Baiwei's hand.
She gasped in pain, but the moment she heard the approaching footsteps outside, she grabbed the cat tightly with one hand and covered its mouth with the other to prevent it from making a sound.
In just a short while, my back was almost soaked with cold sweat.
The footsteps quickly approached. Unable to see what was happening outside, she could only huddle tightly in a corner of the offering table, holding the calico cat without moving, so nervous that she dared not even breathe too loudly.
"Weiwei."
Qi Yu's familiar voice came from outside, startling Gu Baiwei. Her first thought was that she had been discovered.
Just as she was hesitating whether to go out, she heard Qi Yu continue speaking, her voice tender and full of affection: "Long time no see."
This sentence confused Gu Baiwei. Didn't they just meet yesterday?
Just as Gu Baiwei was completely confused, the calico cat she was holding struggled violently again and bit her hand.
As she felt a sharp pain in her hand, she involuntarily loosened her grip, and the calico cat seized the opportunity to break free from her embrace and darted away so fast that she had no time to stop it.
The moment the calico cat darted out, the altar above Gu Baiwei's head trembled, as if something had pressed down on it.
Immediately following was the sound of the incense burner crashing to the ground.
Ashes flew everywhere, and the bronze incense burner fell to the ground with a crisp sound. It then rolled directly under the offering table, and coincidentally, it stopped right at Gu Baiwei's feet.
She was just able to comfort herself that the calico cat going out would be a good way to distract Qi Yu.
Well, this teammate is terrible; he's given away her location.
Sure enough, the moment the incense burner stopped, the dark red tablecloth was lifted by a slender, fair hand.
When Qi Yu saw her, there was no surprise on her face. Instead, she bent down slightly, looked down at her, and smiled gently: "Weiwei, what are you doing here?"
"Would you believe me if I said I was lost?"
Seeing that it was impossible to hide any longer, she could only awkwardly smile and crawl out from under the altar: "Well, if there's nothing else, I'll be going now."
As Gu Baiwei spoke, she lifted her foot to walk out, but Qi Yu stopped her after only a couple of steps: "Wait."
"What's up?"
Unable to escape, she had no choice but to turn back.
She thought to herself, "She just accidentally wandered in here. Qi Yu wouldn't kill her to cover it up, would he?"
Qi Yu maintained a gentle smile and spoke softly, "Since you're here, stay with me for a while."
Putting aside the smile on his face that looked like a mask, Gu Baiwei couldn't stand it for even a second longer just because there was an ice coffin in the room and a woman who looked just like her lying inside.
But Qi Yu seemed to have no intention of letting her leave at all.
He smiled and reached out his hand to her: "Come here, sweetie, I have something to tell you."
Gu Baiwei inexplicably sensed a dangerous aura from his brief sentence. Instead of obediently going over, she subconsciously took a step back.
Noticing her subtle movement, Qi Yu narrowed his deep, dark eyes and chuckled, "Weiwei, you're not afraid of me, are you?"
He was clearly smiling, but his dark eyes showed not a glimmer of light.
The moment Gu Baiwei's eyes met his, her scalp tingled.
She was nervously wondering what to say when she suddenly heard a loud bang in the distance. The calico cat, which was sneaking food on the offering table, shrieked and scurried under the table.
The loud noise caused Qi Yu's expression to change slightly. He turned his head to look at the sky above, and his face instantly darkened.
"Wait for me here, don't go anywhere else."
He hastily tossed out a sentence, turned around, and went up the stairs.
Only after hearing his footsteps fade into the distance did Gu Baiwei finally breathe a sigh of relief.
My gaze fell on the woman lying quietly in the ice coffin, and I couldn't help but wonder who this woman, who looked and had a name so similar to hers, was.
Just as she was thinking, another bang came from above, interrupting her thoughts.
A jumble of footsteps came from above; it sounded like there were quite a few people.
Thinking of Qi Yu's chilling gaze just now, she suddenly realized that Qi Yu had told her to stay here, so was she really just going to obediently wait for him here?
Judging from the sounds, it seems to be quite chaotic outside. It would be foolish not to run away from such a good opportunity to escape.
Having made up her mind, she pulled two candles from the candlestick on the table, lit one of them, and slowly walked out holding it in one hand.
When she reached the cave entrance, she heard the noise outside become even louder.
She could vaguely hear Shen Yanqing's voice.
Overjoyed, she immediately wanted to run out, but after groping around on the wall, she couldn't find a way to open the door.
Feeling somewhat frustrated, she was contemplating whether to call for help when the stone door suddenly trembled and then clicked open from the outside.
Could it be that Qi Yu is back again?
Gu Baiwei was thinking warily when she saw a tall and upright figure standing backlit at the cave entrance.
"Weiwei, it's me."
Hearing the familiar voice, Gu Baiwei's heart trembled slightly.
Just as he was about to speak, he saw Qi Yu appear silently behind Shen Yanqing, his face gloomy.
