It felt like Lin Congzhi was there to mock her, not to genuinely hear her explain her background.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and she was reluctant to compromise; but in the end, she held back.
"Manager Lin, I am the female employee who submitted my resignation to you two weeks ago. I have something I would like to ask you in person. Do you have time to come out for a cup of coffee?"
"Trying to bribe me?"
On the other end of the phone, a smile as thick as honey seemed to have a hidden meaning.
Jiang Yimei hurriedly explained, "No, no, no, absolutely not. It was just out of courtesy. I was wondering if Manager Lin had time."
Lin Congzhi replied ambiguously, "I have plenty of time. When would you like to ask me out?"
He emphasized the word "appointment," as if he wanted to tease her again.
Jiang Yimei wasn't fooled and replied seriously, "If possible, this morning. The address is the coffee shop in the mall next to the company."
Lin Congzhi readily agreed without hesitation: "Okay! Give me a call when you've ordered."
"Um!"
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Yimei breathed a sigh of relief. She just didn't expect Lin Congzhi to agree so quickly. Did he want to see her make a fool of herself?
There's no other way. Since I've made up my mind, I'm going to see it through to the end.
After rushing out the door, she took the subway straight to her "former employer".
More than half an hour later, she arrived at her "former employer" and went into the coffee shop in the shopping mall next door.
Just as she was about to order coffee, a waitress in uniform approached and politely asked, "Are you Ms. Jiang?"
Something's not right. How does this waiter know her?
Out of politeness, she awkwardly replied with a single word: "Yes!"
"Your coffee has been ordered, please follow me."
"It's already ordered? But...I..."
Before she could finish speaking, the waiter led the way, repeatedly urging her to come over.
Reluctantly, she went over to take a look.
She came to a sunny table that smelled of jasmine and saw two steaming cups of coffee, indicating that there was more than one person there.
