The photo in Chapter 4 was an accident!
Before Yu Xue could even laugh, she suddenly heard the phone ring.
She instinctively turned her head, thinking it was her phone, but then she realized that Wen Feng had removed her SIM card, so there was no way a call could be coming in.
This should be Wen Feng's phone.
She was surprised to find that Wen Feng's phone ringtone was the same as hers.
It was her debut work.
However, they were slightly different. Yu Xue chose the first half of the song as her ringtone, while Wen Feng chose the second half.
She stared at the phone, listening to the ringtone for a long time, before suddenly snapping out of her reverie and wanting to remind Wen Feng to answer it.
Wen Feng looked at the two people's stacked hands and remained silent.
Yu Xue was somewhat dazed. She felt that Wen Feng didn't seem to want to take his hand back.
It seemed he would rather give up the phone call than fold it for even a little longer.
Yu Xue didn't freeze for long before quickly realizing what was happening, pulling her hand back and reminding her, "Your phone."
Wen Feng: "...Hmm."
He straightened the hem of his clothes and his wrinkled trousers. By the time he stood up, the bell had stopped ringing.
He walked over and picked up the phone.
Yu Xue: "Whose?"
Wen Feng frowned and put the phone back in his pocket: "It's a work call."
Yu Xue was intrigued by his action and tone. "Uh...aren't you going to fight back?"
Wen Feng said, "I'll go myself." His tone was not as gentle as before, but rather somewhat serious.
After he finished speaking, he cleared his throat, adjusted his tone, and became the warm, comforting presence he once was: "Wait for me to come back."
Yu Xue chuckled and said, "Where else could I go? Of course I'd wait for you."
"Hmm." Wen Feng turned and left.
You could tell he really had something urgent to do.
Yu Xue looked out the window and saw that the person who had called him was downstairs. Wen Feng practically ran to get into the car, looking very anxious.
She watched until the car disappeared from sight.
When getting into the car, Wen Feng remained silent, glancing occasionally at the ward left behind in the rearview mirror. Only after the car had completely disappeared from sight did he speak, as if afraid that the people inside would hear him.
Wen Feng: "Are you a reporter?"
The secretary shook her head. "No, she was your wife's classmate from before."
The aunt mentioned it that day, saying that when she saw Yu Xue off at the gate, she saw someone taking pictures outside. Later, she checked the surveillance footage and found that the man had been outside the villa for a long time, taking pictures, and it didn't seem like he was just passing by.
The aunt went up to the man and asked him to delete the photos, but the man shook off her hand and ran away. At that time, the aunt was focused on Yu Xue and didn't pay attention to the man.
The aunt said the boy looked familiar, as if she had seen him before.
The aunt asked Wen Feng tremblingly, "Could it be that someone forced your wife to commit suicide?"
Wen Feng was unaware of the situation, but whether it was premeditated or just a passing by, these photos absolutely could not be leaked.
If the news of Yu Xue's suicide were to spread and become common knowledge, it might not be an attempt, but a death, within a few days.
Before the car had even come to a complete stop, Wen Feng had already gotten out. The surveillance cameras were broken, and he, along with several bodyguards, were hiding in the storage room next to the main room.
Around 6 p.m., the homeowner returned and opened the door.
Then, the power was switched off, the lights that had just been turned on immediately went out, and the house was plunged into darkness. Several people rushed out, grabbed the homeowner's arm, covered his mouth, pushed him back into the house, closed the door, and drew the curtains inside.
The power was switched on again, and the room lit up.
The man's mouth was still covered, and he dared not move. He huddled in the chair, thin and small, trembling.
The secretary asked him for the password, which he gave her. Several people searched the house thoroughly to make sure there were no recording devices.
Wen Feng opened his phone's photo album. The aunt was right; the photos were taken starting in the afternoon, the earliest dating back to when Yu Xue was watering the flowers in the yard before lunch, when she went back to her room, and when she drew the curtains. There were photos and videos of her, as well as a recording of the aunt banging on the door, the police coming, the ambulance arriving, and people being carried out...
It has everything, and is extremely detailed.
Wen Feng wasn't there that day, but just by looking at these videos and photos, he could roughly piece together the story. If he didn't know the cause and effect, he could easily make up a few plausible "facts."
He deleted them one by one, went through all his software, and made sure there was nothing else.
But instead of returning the phone to the man, he took a new phone out of his pocket and handed it to him, saying, "Use this one; I'll take the old one."
The boy trembled, too afraid to take it. He swallowed hard and said in a trembling voice, "You are rich and powerful... so you bully us ordinary people."
“Yeah, just an ordinary person.” Wen Feng nodded. “Ordinary people are all like you, sneaking around taking pictures of other people’s houses every day. Good for you.”
This was the first time Wen Feng had ever done something like this.
There was no other way; it was for the sake of a human life.
He can certainly follow the proper procedures to arrest people, prosecute them, and seek compensation.
But by the time he has collected all the evidence and is waiting in line for the court hearing, the other side has already sent out the photos and videos with a flick of their fingers. Even if he calls the police today to make them delete the photos and videos, it won't be difficult to recover the data later.
Once the video and photos were released, everything was irreversible, and Wen Feng could only be responsible for collecting Yu Xue's body.
After some time, the culprit paid a sum of money and disappeared from the public eye without a trace. When people thought about this incident again, they could only think of the psychologically fragile Yu Xue. Who would think about whether these photos were released openly or taken secretly?
A human life is extremely cheap.
But Wen Feng is valuable; no matter how much money or effort Wen Feng spends, he will save this life.
Since the other side doesn't value martial ethics, he doesn't need to be rigid in his approach.
Wen Feng asked, "How did you know what was going to happen that day?"
The man didn't speak.
Wen Feng: "I can make you lose your job."
The man gritted his teeth and rubbed his arm as if it were tied up and he was uncomfortable. "I've been online with her since high school. She told me herself."
Wen Feng hummed in agreement. There was no need to ask any further. He could go back and see for himself when Yu Xue had told him and what she had said.
He said, "Three days later, after the data is cleared, this phone will be returned to you."
Before leaving, he asked again, "Were you and Yu Xue classmates in junior high school?"
He asked the question he already knew the answer to.
The man nodded.
Wen Feng really wanted to know what kind of deep-seated hatred could make him spare no effort for so many years to coax a person he hated online, just so that one day he could ruin her reputation.
Surely it couldn't be for "love that couldn't be obtained"?
Forget it, it's disgusting to even say another word to someone like that.
He went out.
Even after getting into the car, his heart was still pounding.
nervous.
This was the first time he had threatened someone so openly, but fortunately he didn't show any weakness and acted quite well.
He stared at the borrowed phone for a while. He remembered that Yu Xue had told him before that she had an online friend who always chatted with her. But Yu Xue said that the friend was a girl who studied physical education and often sent Yu Xue videos of her playing basketball with boys on the basketball court, as well as selfies.
The two were in the same city when they were in high school, but they went their separate ways when they went to college. They probably won't see each other again, but Yu Xue is still willing to share her life with her as a good friend.
Wen Feng glanced through the photo album on the phone and found many photos of girls. Scrolling further up, he found some candid photos of Yu Xue's private activities, not only at home, but also at school, company gates, and even in the food street.
This is absolutely insane.
Wen Feng looked at his secretary and said, "Help me find out whose photo he's using to chat with Yu Xue. If it's his friend, try to remind him."
The secretary nodded: "Okay, I understand."
When Wen Feng returned, the doctor stopped him, saying that Yu Xue's emotions were somewhat unstable and that he should not agitate the patient.
Wen Feng was stunned and asked, "What happened?"
The doctor shook his head. "She threw everything on the table. We asked her, but she wouldn't say. She got angry and threw the blankets and pillows on the floor. It took a long time to calm her down. But it could also be because she was hallucinating again... It's common for patients to lose control of their emotions. Ms. Yu Xue is one of the more self-controlled patients I've ever seen."
Wen Feng's heart, which had been filled with excitement at the prospect of seeing Yu Xue, suddenly sank.
He walked to the door, adjusting his mindset several times, afraid that Yu Xue would notice his nervousness, yet also afraid that being too nonchalant would make Yu Xue feel unimportant.
He stomped his foot, making a sound, and pushed open the door.
Yu Xue was lying in bed, looking at the comic books he had bought.
She heard the door open, smiled, and looked over, saying, "Finished with work?"
Wen Feng nodded, "Yes, I'm sorry, I left in too much of a hurry today."
"It's nothing." Yu Xue turned her gaze back to the book Wen Feng had bought for her.
Wen Feng didn't know whether he should ask or not. He stood awkwardly in place, head down.
Yu Xue: "Are you trying to ask me why I smashed books during the day?"
She said this with a smile on her face, not at all like someone who had been angry.
Wen Feng nodded: "Yes, I'd like to know. Would you mind telling me?"
Yu Xue turned her head away, put the comic book aside, and said, "It was an accident. I accidentally knocked the book over when I was backing up. I knew the doctor wouldn't believe me, so he must have told you."
