Chapter 23 Physical Examination: Do you want to eat cupcakes?

Chapter 23 Physical Examination: Do you want to eat cupcakes?

Seemingly realizing that the question was somewhat difficult for Wen Feng, Yu Xue didn't continue asking. Instead, she lowered her head and looked at her fingernails.

The aunt knocked on the door and said dinner was ready.

"Let's eat," Wen Feng said, setting up a small table on the bed.

Yu Xue said, "My face is injured, not my leg. I can go down and eat."

"Oh, okay." Wen Feng put the table away again. "I was afraid you were too tired to get up."

"There's something else," Wen Feng said.

Yu Xue: "What?"

Wen Feng: "Mom said the company is organizing employee health checkups recently, and she also scheduled a full-body checkup for you. She wants you to go to the hospital to get it done, just in case there are any problems."

Yu Xue hesitated for a moment, then nodded, "Okay."

She hesitated because she didn't want to go to the hospital. She always felt that going to the hospital would prove that she had a mental illness, and she was afraid that Wen Feng would take her to see a psychiatrist.

But Liu Xin wouldn't do that. Liu Xin is her mother, and her mother knows she's not sick. She knows her mother loves her very much.

Every time she saw Liu Xin, it was as if she were seeing her own mother.

For some reason, Liu Xin in this world looks remarkably like her mother in another world.

Every time she saw Liu Xin, she felt that she should be obedient and not let her mother worry.

The sweet and sour pork was beautifully made, with a lovely presentation, vibrant colors, and a delightful taste—not too sweet or cloying, just right.

Yu Xue sat at the table, staring blankly at the brightly colored pieces of meat.

She was so tired that she couldn't even lift her arms.

Wen Feng handed her chopsticks, and she slowly raised her hand, as if just catching the chopsticks had exhausted all her strength.

She didn't put any force into her hand, and it bumped downwards, hitting the table.

She was so sleepy; she felt she should go to bed.

She turned her head, feeling like everyone was watching her: the cleaning ladies, the cooks, and Wen Feng.

But when she actually turned around, she found that only Wen Feng was looking at her.

She tried a piece of sweet and sour pork, but couldn't taste anything; she just found it difficult to chew.

She leaned on the table to stand up, her steps unsteady. "I'm going upstairs to sleep."

“Hey…” Wen Feng called out to her.

"Hmm?" Yu Xue turned her head.

Wen Feng said, "The physical exam is scheduled for early, at eight in the morning. I'll come and get you."

Yu Xue: "Okay."

Wen Feng had been wanting to give Yu Xue a full check-up. She was always not eating well, her mental state was poor, and she often had aches and pains, which might be a manifestation of mental illness. But Wen Feng was still worried and wanted to have at least a physical examination to put his mind at ease.

He didn't like sweet and sour pork, so he drank two bowls of soup and went upstairs.

He opened the door to find the room completely dark. He froze, remembering that the room light hadn't been turned off when he came downstairs.

In the darkness, he could hear steady breathing. He stood at the doorway, unsure whether to go in or not.

He was afraid that his footsteps would wake Yu Xue, but he couldn't bear to go out to sleep.

Finally, he took off his shoes, stepped onto the carpet, walked to the bed, and lay down with the gentlest movements. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the guitar leaning against the wall and couldn't help but look at it one more time.

Yu Xue turned over to face him.

He knew that Yu Xue had woken up.

He reached out and grabbed Yu Xue's hand; it was ice-cold.

He grabbed her hand, tucked it under the covers, and leaned in, wanting to hold her tighter.

But in reality, he didn't even dare to touch her forehead, afraid that she would be angry and not want to appear here again the next day.

But Yu Xue came up to her.

She wrapped her arms around Wen Feng's neck and leaned forward. Wen Feng quickly took the opportunity to slip one hand under her waist and hug her tightly, letting her sink into his embrace.

Yu Xue rubbed her face against his.

Wen Feng dared not utter a sound.

Yu Xue was half-awake and said in a sticky voice, "Wen Feng, I just had a dream."

Wen Feng: "What?"

Yu Xue opened her eyes, then closed them again. "I dreamt that I went home. My parents were there, and they said they missed me and cooked a whole table of dishes for me."

Yu Xue: "I stayed at home for several days. Every day when I stepped out of my room, I would see my parents talking in the living room or waiting for me to eat. But..."

She opened her eyes again and looked at Wen Feng's nose. "Without you."

Wen Feng looked into her eyes and asked, "Do you miss me?"

"Yes," Yu Xue blurted out. "I just woke up to ask you if you want to come to that world with me."

Before Wen Feng could speak, Yu Xue added, "But I've decided not to ask anymore. Even if you want to come with me, I won't let you."

Wen Feng: "Why?"

Yu Xue: "Because your parents are still in this world, and your uncles, aunts, cousins, and other relatives all love you very much. And... Mom said that death is very painful, and I don't want you to be with me."

He stroked Yu Xue's hair and gently touched the white cotton pad on her face. "Xue Xue, if you leave, you'd better take me with you."

Yu Xue: "Why?"

Wen Feng: "You are my hope."

A heavy silence fell over the room. Yu Xue felt Wen Feng moving, stroking her back and gently stroking her hair. But her mind was a buzzing, she couldn't hear anything, like a star that could be seen but not heard in a vacuum.

Yu Xue doesn't understand the universe or the movement of stars. All she knows is that the moon has been orbiting the Earth for so many years without changing. Even if it changes in the future, it will be a very, very long time from now. That distant future, to her insignificant self, symbolizes eternity.

If Wen Feng is that star, then he is Yu Xue's forever.

Yu Xue hugged him and asked, "Do you believe in forever?"

Wen Feng: "I don't know."

Yu Xue: "I believe it."

Yu Xue: "Apart from force majeure such as illness, death from old age, or disasters, nothing else can be a reason for us to separate. I think we will not separate. As long as we both try our best and find ways to stay together, we will definitely not separate."

Wen Feng's thumb rubbed her forehead; he thought she was still half asleep. "Don't you want to break up with me?"

Yu Xue: "No. I want to see you forever."

Wen Feng: "Okay, we'll never be apart."

Both of them slept very well that night.

Yu Xue's hands were warm from being covered in warm clothes, and her whole body felt so cozy that she didn't want to get out of bed. In the end, Wen Feng had to help her put on her clothes while pulling her up.

He had been wanting to find an opportunity to talk to Yu Xue about the psychologist, but he couldn't find the right chance.

He felt that Yu Xue was in a good mood today, and after the physical examination, he would find an opportunity to have a psychologist come to his home to see her.

The two chatted happily in the car.

Yu Xue then started talking about the strange dreams she had last night.

She dreamed that she turned into a mouse and was stomped to death by Wen Feng.

Wen Feng promised her that if he saw a rat next time, he would first ask if it was Yu Xue before stomping it to death.

Their house has never had mice before. If one really appears, they should really ask around, because it might be someone who turned into a mouse.

When they were drawing blood, Wen Feng instinctively reached out to cover Yu Xue's eyes, and Yu Xue smiled.

Wen Feng: "When my parents were young, every time they went to the hospital for a blood test, my mother would cover my father's eyes."

Yu Xue said with a laugh, "That's because your dad is afraid of blood."

Wen Feng: "I know, but actually my dad can close his eyes by himself, but my mom still has to cover them for him."

He pressed the cotton swab on Yu Xue's arm. "Every time Mom comes home from a blood test, Dad makes her cupcakes to help her replenish her blood."

Yu Xue: "Haha, can cupcakes replenish blood? They only replenish blood sugar, right?"

Wen Feng laughed and said, "My dad doesn't know much about medical knowledge. He said that low blood sugar can be cured by eating sugar, so eating sugar can replenish blood."

After he finished speaking, he turned to Yu Xue and asked, "Would you like some cupcakes?"

Yu Xue: "Can you make it?"

Wen Feng: "Yes, I can. I'll make it for you when we get back."

"Okay," Yu Xue said. "What's the next item on the medical checkup?"

Wen Feng: "Electrocardiogram."

There weren't many people at the hospital today, and the two of us didn't have to wait in line for long before we came out.

Yu Xue doesn't have any major health problems, just some minor ones. The doctor said she has a slight arrhythmia, but she's young and it's nothing to worry about.

After visiting various departments, it's basically confirmed that there's nothing seriously wrong. It's normal for people to have minor ailments. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate rest will help these ailments heal on their own. It's not a big problem.

Aside from mental health issues, the biggest problem I have is my stomach, caused by irregular eating habits. However, it's not a major issue; I just need to pay attention to my lifestyle.

For the last part, just go and give the doctor a look at the chest X-ray.

Wen Feng's phone rang. He glanced at Yu Xue, then at his phone.

Yu Xue gently pushed him and said, "It's okay, it's just a formality. I can go in by myself. You go answer the phone."

"Okay," Wen Feng said. "It shouldn't be anything particularly important. I'll come find you at the department entrance after I finish this call."

Yu Xue nodded and took the film.

The call was from my mother. She estimated that the two of them should have finished by now.

She was right about the timing; only one item remained.

However, there's definitely nothing wrong; all the previous indicators are quite normal.

He told Liu Xin the truth.

Liu Xin breathed a sigh of relief, "That's good, that's good. I was worried that Yu Xue wasn't eating properly and that she might have some serious stomach problem."

"It's nothing." Wen Feng looked up at the direction Yu Xue had left in. "Mom, we're almost out of the hospital. Let's talk when we get home."

Liu Xin: "Okay, go ahead and get busy, don't keep Yu Xue waiting."

Wen Feng was inexplicably worried when he saw that Yu Xue hadn't come out for a long time. Logically speaking, as long as the film was submitted, everything would be fine. Could there really be a problem?

He had just reached the door of the department and hadn't even had a chance to knock when the door opened from the inside.

Yu Xue stood at the door, looking at him, "The doctor wants to see you."

He noticed that Yu Xue looked unwell, and feeling uneasy, he pushed open the door and came in.

The doctor had already put the film down, but when he saw Wen Feng come in, he picked it up again, checked it once more, and said, "There's a nodule, like early-stage lung cancer."

After he finished speaking, he quickly added, "It's very minor. A simple surgery to remove it will do. No chemotherapy is needed. Don't be nervous, don't put pressure on yourselves, and don't scare yourselves."
