"good."
Lu Ning didn't ask anything, he just nodded.
After dinner, Wei Xuan and Wang Qiwen went home from get off work. It was Colin and Qiu Yuelin's turn to be on night duty today.
Lu Ning then got into Lin Xiao's sports car and left the branch.
Throughout the journey, Lu Ning watched the scenery flash by outside the window without saying a word.
Lin Xiao opened his mouth, hesitated for a long time, and finally couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you curious about where we're going?"
Lu Ning snapped out of his daze and glanced at Lin Xiao: "Not curious."
Lin Xiao was speechless: "Seriously, can't you at least be a little curious? Otherwise, how am I supposed to explain it to you?"
Lu Ning looked at Lin Xiao with confusion and said, "But I'm really not curious."
Lin Xiao fell silent. After taking a few deep breaths, he finally spoke, "We're going to a place called A Tree Bar."
Lu Ning nodded: "Oh."
Seeing Lu Ning's calm reaction, Lin Xiao took another deep breath and then said, "Don't be fooled by the fact that this bar doesn't seem famous or big. There's a black market in the basement of the bar. This black market is different from ordinary black markets. It's a black market specifically for Awakened Ones to trade. If you're lucky, you might even come across a Soul Weapon."
Hearing this, Lu Ning was a little surprised: "They even have soul weapons?"
Seeing that Lu Ning was finally interested, Lin Xiao said with great enthusiasm, "Of course, some Awakened Ones will not join our Mist Bureau because of their abilities or other reasons, but they are still Awakened Ones, right? They always want to find ways to improve themselves, so places like the black market where people can exchange goods and services will appear."
"Are those awakened ones outside the official control?"
"Not necessarily. Apart from those who deliberately conceal their awakening and cult members, normal awakened individuals will register with the Mist Bureau. After registration, they can receive a federal subsidy. If their abilities are suitable, they will be invited to join the Mist Bureau. Of course, you can also choose to refuse. After refusing, you will live under the supervision of the Mist Bureau, and your normal life will generally not be affected."
Lu Ning nodded slightly: "So Wang Qiwen and the others accepted the invitation?"
"Well, not all Awakened Ones are willing to join the Mist Bureau. After all, there are advantages and disadvantages to joining the Mist Bureau. The Mist Bureau definitely has the most resources, but the Mist Bureau requires you to carry out missions, which is quite dangerous. If you don't join, you don't need to carry out missions, so the danger is relatively less. However, if you don't have enough resources, your mental strength will grow very slowly. In the end, you may not be able to suppress mental pollution because your mental strength is not strong enough, which may eventually lead to the occurrence of disease."
Lu Ning listened quietly, then frowned and said, "Then why not let all Awakened Ones use Soul Crystals to enhance their spiritual power? Wouldn't that reduce the incidence of disease?"
Lin Xiao smiled wryly and said, "Of course the Federation would like to, but the number of Soul Crystals is limited. Even members of the Mist Bureau need to have corresponding merits to exchange for them. Where would we get any extra for free awakeners?"
As he spoke, Lin Xiao sighed: "To ordinary people, awakening an ability might seem like a lucky thing, but after awakening, one has already embarked on the path of disease, and is just a pitiful person constantly struggling on the road to disease."
Lu Ning remained silent, his face expressionless.
Lin Xiao glanced at Lu Ning: "Don't you feel anything?"
"My spirit will not be tainted; I do not have that feeling."
Lin Xiao: "???"
He said with a dark face, "Can't you put yourself in my shoes and try to empathize?"
Lu Ning was silent for a moment: "Oh, you guys are pretty miserable."
Lin Xiao: "..."
Lin Xiao's face turned red as he took several deep breaths. After a long while, he finally spoke: "Generally speaking, when the Mist Bureau is short-handed, they will post missions on the black market. The free awakened individuals in the black market will choose whether to accept the mission based on its difficulty. This is also a way for free awakened individuals to obtain resources. So we are going there to post missions now."
Lu Ning nodded: "I understand."
As the two were talking, the sports car sped to a dilapidated residential area on the outskirts of the base city.
Finally, we stopped in front of a small three-story bar, with an LED sign in front of it that read "A Tree Bar".
Lin Xiao led Lu Ning into the bar.
The bar wasn't very big, with tables and chairs surrounding a central dance floor where a band was currently performing.
The band members all had their hair permed into strange shapes and had brightly colored styles.
Since it was still early, there weren't many customers in the bar, and the bartender was wiping glasses behind the bar.
Lin Xiao led Lu Ning to the bar and tapped on the counter.
The bartender looked up at him and immediately smiled, "So it's Mr. Lin, welcome."
Where is your boss?
"He's behind us. Should I go find him?"
"Bring him over."
"Okay, Mr. Lin!" The bartender put down his glass and walked towards the back door.
A moment later, the bartender came over with a blond, burly man.
The burly man had several scars of varying depths on his face and walked with a limp.
Lu Ning glanced down and noticed that his left foot was made of metal.
The burly man, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, grinned when he saw Lin Xiao: "Old Lin, long time no see."
"Haha, here I am!"
Lin Xiao stepped forward, and the two simultaneously landed a punch on each other's chest, producing a dull thud.
"Come on, let's go inside and talk!"
The burly man put his arm around Lin Xiao's shoulder and walked towards the back door, with Lu Ning following behind.
After entering through the back door, there is a corridor with several rooms on both sides.
