Chapter 41 No Internal Consumption
Although she didn't have time for additional interviews, Xu Mo still revised the logic of her report. To make it more grounded, she started directly with the phenomenon, creating a shocking effect, and then slowly presented the logic behind the phenomenon. She worked late into the night, not going to bed until 3 a.m.
At eight o'clock the next day, she drank a glass of iced American coffee and gave a video report to Ou Guoqiang in front of the computer screen.
She hadn't wanted to rush into this, intending to conduct another round of interviews and refine the details before reporting. But her long-held fears materialized. Ou Guoqiang sent a message at nine o'clock the previous evening, requesting a periodic report.
He is currently leading this project, and the project team is incurring travel and labor costs every day. If the project leader within the company cannot supervise the project quality well, it will inevitably be a huge waste for the company, and the company may even face accountability from the audit and supervision department in the future.
Therefore, Ou Guoqiang attaches great importance to it.
While listening to the report, Ou Guoqiang kept a frown on his face.
Xu Mo noticed that Manager Wu had also joined the meeting, and she shared the meeting link with Manager Wu before reporting.
After hearing this, Ou Guoqiang remained silent, and Xu Mo didn't dare to speak either.
Her heart sank and she had a bad feeling.
Manager Wu asked, "Mr. Ou, do you have any suggestions for revisions?"
Ou Guoqiang tilted his head to look behind him. All he could see on the screen was a background wall. "Mr. Lin, do you think there's anything we can improve?"
Xu Mo's heart skipped a beat before she realized that Ou Guoqiang and Lin Jingchuan were in the same office.
Although Lin Jingchuan's name did not appear in the list of participants in the video conference, he was actually there all the time.
In other words, he also listened to her report.
But he didn't tell her.
Xu Mo pursed her lips, feeling inexplicably strange in her heart.
The hotel's curtains hadn't been opened yet, and the entire room was enveloped in dull earth tones.
The time bar in the lower right corner of the computer shows 10:30 in the morning.
Lin Jingchuan's voice came through the speaker:
"It's clear the project team has put in a lot of effort on site. This project was arranged by Chairman Fei, so its importance is self-evident. This is the first time the group has undertaken such a management transformation project, and we have no previous experience or models to draw on. The process may encounter some bumps. If there are any areas where you need support, please let me and Chairman Ou know."
Although Lin Jingchuan spoke very tactfully, Xu Mo understood that the key point of this passage was the last few sentences.
Ou Guoqiang seemed to snort and said, "Let me be frank. I think the depth of your material needs to be improved."
Manager Wu asked, "Can you be more specific?"
Ou Guoqiang said, "You have sorted out our systems and processes, but there is no clear method or strategy for how to guide our business in the future. I feel that it lacks details."
Xu Mo's face turned pale, but Manager Wu, a man who had experienced many things, remained calm and said, "Boss Ou, I have some information I'd like to share with you."
"you say."
"First, at the beginning of the project, there was no consensus within Landa on what specific problems the project needed to solve. So during our first research, we were probably observing as we went along. Because we lacked direction, we might have missed out on details. Now we're mainly trying to sort out the current situation and then identify the pain points, which will help us have a clearer direction."
"Secondly, our project colleagues discovered during on-site work that factory staff were skeptical and cautious about the project. They thought it was a restructuring of responsibilities and layoffs, which hindered our ability to carry out our work in depth. I believe this may be due to a lack of communication and implementation within Landsea."
After saying the first two points, Manager Wu paused, which meant that her next words were the key points she wanted to emphasize:
"Another important point is that, given that Landa's goal is to achieve a closed loop from consulting solutions to company-level implementation, our external agencies need internal executives to provide closer guidance on the project to ensure that the project achieves its goals."
Xu Mo looked at the calm Manager Wu on the screen with mixed feelings. Manager Wu's words defended her, but she also couldn't help feeling ashamed. After all, the client actually did not agree with her report.
She lowered her eyes and was in a trance for a while.
Although Ou Guoqiang has a straightforward personality, he is also a sensible person. After listening to Manager Wu's words, he also said that this was not entirely the fault of the consulting company. His participation was also limited. He would send more people to the project site to participate in the project. The group level would also do a good job of promoting the project to ensure its smooth progress.
The meeting is over.
Xu Mo ended the meeting in silence. Unsurprisingly, Manager Wu stayed behind to have a private phone call with her.
Manager Wu said, "Compared to the plan you presented to me last time, this plan has obviously been modified, but it's better than nothing."
Xu Mo said, "President Ou requested a report at short notice, so I didn't have time to do any additional research. The work on-site has been very intense over the past week. As you know, there are only four of us, and one of us is..."
Manager Wu interrupted her, "Xu Mo, I've been mentoring you since we were little friends. We've worked with many clients over the years, and you've always performed well on past projects. You're able to handle pressure, take on responsibilities, be smart, and be rigorous—those are all your strengths."
"This is your first time leading a large project, and it's during this project that I realize you lack the ability to think independently and don't think deeply enough. I used to be on-site and could give you timely guidance, but I can't always be there, especially this year, when you've reached the age limit for manager promotion. It's even more impossible for me to accompany you on projects."
"Compared to labels like strong execution and the ability to endure hardship, our company is more in-demand in terms of consultants with vision and deep thinking skills. Only these consultants can become future management."
Xu Mo was silent for a long time, then whispered, "I understand."
"Well, I have a meeting later, so let's stop here for today. I'll make time to come to the project site later." Manager Wu looked stern and impartial, completely different from the way he defended her in the meeting. "Just do your best."
Xu Mo was Emo for a whole half day.
Ever since the meeting, she has been mired in deep self-doubt. Her consulting career has actually been quite smooth, and she's enjoyed the trust and praise of many clients.
As a consultant, no honor can compare to a compliment from a client in front of your boss.
But she didn't expect that her career would suffer a setback in this project at Lan Da.
Even though she had anticipated the failure of the report and had made many efforts before the report, she still failed irretrievably.
After the meeting, she was deeply hit by her leader.
"She actually said I don't have the ability to think independently." Xu Mo's eyes reddened. "Has she forgotten how I helped her withstand the client's doubts on the last project? If I don't have the ability to think independently, will the client recognize me?"
Wu Siyue comforted her: "You knew it all along. This project of Lan Da is different from other projects. This project is very difficult and no one dares to take it."
"You've done pretty well so far." Wu Siyue hugged her. "Don't blame yourself too much. Besides, it's not all your fault. The team is small, and there are only three of us working. Zou Kexin can't be relied upon."
"I don't care what the client says." Xu Mo's eyes were red. "I care about her. How could she say that to me?"
"Don't cry, don't cry. Ouch, you've been manipulated by Manager Wu and Boss Ou." Wu Siyue wiped her tears with a piece of paper. "Manager Wu is just like that. He's a bit cold, but he's a good person. Otherwise, he wouldn't defend you in front of the client. Other team managers take all the credit and blame their subordinates. Compared to them, Manager Wu is a breath of fresh air."
Xu Mo shook her head. "I failed at the first presentation. I must have forgotten to go to the temple to get amulets this year. How could the new year start so badly?"
Wu Siyue said, "Don't worry about it. Let's go out for dinner tonight. We've come all the way to the north, so let's eat and drink and have some fun. Don't waste your time, don't waste your time, don't waste your time, especially over work!"
Xu Mo took Wu Siyue to the county town in a taxi. They found a small KTV and sang for three hours. They also found a local specialty restaurant on Dianping.com. They ordered five dishes and drank some beer.
During this time, Xu Mo's phone vibrated twice. Wu Siyue reminded her to answer the call, but she took a look and turned off the phone directly and continued singing.
After eating and drinking, Xu Mo returned to her room.
When she opened the door, she saw a figure standing in the room.
After seeing the person, she simply greeted him and silently went to the suitcase to get clothes and take a shower.
After taking a shower, she came out of the bathroom and was grabbed by someone before she took two steps.
"Are you angry?" Lin Jingchuan hugged her from behind.
