Chapter 42 Review
At ten o'clock in the evening, the northern town fell into silence. Looking out the glass window of the room, I could only vaguely see the outline of the gently surging sea. The sea breeze penetrated the window and stirred the white curtains.
Xu Mo looked out the window at the dark silence outside, and a man's voice slowly came.
"I was waiting for you in the lobby. I called you twice but you didn't answer, so I went straight to the front desk and told them your room number. The front desk called your room and said no one was there," Lin Jingchuan said. "Then she gave me the room card."
"The security awareness at the front desk of this hotel is not strong." Lin Jingchuan said, "Remember to lock the door when you go to bed at night. I ordered a jack for you and sent it to your room. Remember to use it when you go to bed tonight."
Through the thin fabric of her pajamas, the man's body temperature was transmitted to the skin on her back.
Xu Mo pushed away his hand on her waist and turned to face him.
"Weren't you at the headquarters this morning? Why are you here in the evening?"
She looked at him for a moment and then turned around, walking to the bed and lifting the covers while asking.
Lin Jingchuan stood there for a while, looking at her back, and followed her steps as she walked over: "I've basically finished this week's affairs this morning, so I came to see you."
With her bare toes stepping on the soft carpet in the room, Xu Mo leaned over and sat on the bed.
Her eyes fell on Lin Jingchuan with a cold expression.
Lin Jingchuan looked at the white tie on her collar and didn't say anything.
The atmosphere between the two of them was stagnant for about half a minute, and Lin Jingchuan sat down beside her bed.
He held her wrist that was exposed above the quilt: "What's wrong? Are you unhappy?"
Xu Mo didn't say anything, so Lin Jingchuan asked again, "Is it because of the report this morning?"
Xu Mo finally raised her eyes and looked at him with a slightly frown: "If you knew, why did you take so long to ask?"
Lin Jingchuan pursed his lips: "Don't be angry, and don't talk like that."
Xu Mo looked away: "I know that you watched me make a mistake and finally lose face in front of President Ou because you are a senior executive of the company and I am a consultant hired by your company. You need to avoid it."
"I know you have your reasons, or maybe you have some difficulties in not being able to help me. It doesn't matter whether you can tell me or not," Xu Mo said. "But what I care about is that you, as my husband, the man I trust the most, didn't stand by me."
"Lin Jingchuan." She looked at him, "You know, I really care about whether I can get a promotion this year. This project is very important to me."
Lin Jingchuan looked into her calm eyes, his Adam's apple rolling. "I don't have any hardship. It doesn't involve leaking secrets or conflicts of interest. There's nothing to avoid. But I've been busy recently, so I didn't take the initiative to ask about your situation. You didn't show me the final plan, so I didn't have the opportunity to predict your report in advance, let alone give you any advice."
Xu Mo asked, "What are you busy with?"
"Yiming has joined the company." Lin Jingchuan said, "I'm helping him get familiar with the company. One of the factories is about to start production, and I've been on a business trip these days."
Xu Mo looked out the window, closed her eyes, and slumped her shoulders. "I'm sorry, I was too emotional. This matter has nothing to do with you. I didn't show you the materials, and you can't give me any advice. Ultimately, the failure of the report is a problem of my personal ability."
Lin Jingchuan looked at her drooping eyelashes and the red corners of her eyes, and he could feel a crack in his heart.
He held the person in his arms and said, "This project is quite difficult. Generally, consulting projects are just handed over after the plan is produced, but here we require implementation, so Mr. Ou's requirements are higher."
"What could you possibly do wrong?" He patted her back, coaxing her like a baby. "You're just a strong-willed little girl."
Xu Mo's tears fell on his neck, soaking his black shirt, and the dampness spread to his neck and shoulders.
She didn't want to cry, but tears flowed like water from a faucet.
Wiping away her tears, Xu Mo pushed him away: "I've reviewed it and realized that I don't know enough about the agriculture and animal husbandry industry."
"I'm not in the manufacturing team," Xu Mo said. "My previous projects were all in finance and technology, and I rarely worked on manufacturing, let alone agriculture."
"Before joining this project, even though I knew this was a completely new field for me, I always felt that people needed to eat every day and the agriculture industry was very close to me, so I didn't put much effort into learning more. Now I realize that this industry is actually much more complicated than I imagined."
Lin Jingchuan lowered his eyes: "Where do you find the complexity?"
"Today I looked back at the notes from the first time Manager Wu brought me to meet you. At that time, you said that Landa Group is a large national group with 500 factories in China. Your business is agriculture, and your clients are actually farmers raising fish, shrimp, pigs, and poultry. We actually provide comprehensive farming solutions, and our products have non-standard characteristics, so each factory faces different problems and difficulties," Xu Mo analyzed. "So, this time, I only researched one factory and tried to summarize its management and business model. The conclusions I drew are likely unrepresentative. I think I should research a few more factories to identify common issues."
"Your idea is great," Lin Jingchuan said, "but there are only four of you. How are you going to research two factories in a week?"
Xu Mo looked out the window and was silent for a while. She had been working overtime to investigate a factory during this period and was really too busy to handle everything.
"Momo, I know you're very capable, but sometimes you have to learn to leverage others' strengths," Lin Jingchuan said. "Manager Wu said it well at the meeting. President Ou hasn't given you enough support, so I think it's a good thing that this report has exposed some problems."
"How do you say that?"
"Having someone from within the company join your project team and provide guidance on some broad areas, helping you avoid detours, will be much more efficient than having you all figure out the industry and company logic from scratch," Lin Jingchuan said. "President Ou has decided to send two internal experts to support you. They'll probably arrive next Monday."
"With them, you can better gain the trust of the factory, and subsequent implementation will not be so difficult."
Xu Mo raised her eyes: "Who is he going to send?"
"A product expert and a sales expert, both veteran employees with over a decade of service." Lin Jingchuan gently stroked the bow tie on her chest. "Don't worry, just do your job normally. With them around, your next report will definitely be different."
Xu Mo's heart was relieved a little. She leaned against the head of the bed and breathed a sigh of relief.
She suddenly seemed to understand Manager Wu's intentions. Perhaps he had known her report would fail, but allowing her to embarrass herself in front of CEO Ou wasn't foolishness; it was a form of upward management. After all, CEO Fei had designated CEO Ou to lead this project, and they were all in this together. Manager Wu had managed CEO Ou's expectations, using this failed report to pressure him into giving the project more support, thereby reducing costs and improving quality.
She pondered for a long time, her eyes empty. Lin Jingchuan carefully helped her tidy up the ears on her collar and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Xu Mo shook her head: "I want to die."
Lin Jingchuan raised two fingers, placed them on the corners of her lips, and pulled them upwards to create a smile.
"No." His voice was gentle, but his words were full of dominance. "You need my consent."
Xu Mo pulled his slender fingers apart and smiled. Lin Jingchuan held her in his arms and kissed the corner of her lips: "Don't be sad about irrelevant people and things. Look at me more."
"I've been on a five-hour flight, and my waist is hurting." He held her slender fingers and probed them below his waistline, his voice tinged with lust, "Can you help me massage it, honey?"
