"Sister Chen Que!" Zhao Xiaoxiu looked at the door in surprise.
It was bright inside but dark outside. Luckily, she had night vision, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to see what the people outside looked like.
The tentacles retracted, but Zhao Gang immediately glanced over with a displeased, warning look.
Chen Que patted his chest, but even after seeing Zhao Xiaoxiu's welcoming smile, he dared not take another step into the convenience store.
Zhao Xiaoxiu got off the 'bed' and asked her with a smile, "Sister Chen Que, have you eaten?"
Chen Que stood outside the rusty door frame without glass, awkwardly hummed twice, glanced at the pot of simmering pumpkin, and said, "You two are eating quite well."
"By the way, have you met Meng Xia and his brother?" Shen Que asked.

After watching Shen Que leave, Zhao Xiaoxiu returned to the campfire, rummaged through her backpack, and checked the food inside.
There is enough nutrient solution; there are twenty-five vials.
There were also two bunches of tomatoes, which I ate as snacks on the way.

The pot was still hot, so Zhao Gang helped hold it up. Zhao Xiaoxiu picked up a spoon, scooped up a big spoonful, blew on it, and put it in her mouth. She had a great appetite.
In no time, half a pot of pumpkin was gone.
A line of people had appeared outside the convenience store, holding gleaming knives and staring at the father and daughter inside with gleaming eyes.
Zhao Xiaoxiu buried herself in her rice, then glanced up casually.
Strange, is she seeing things?
There were people standing at the door just now, right? Where did they all go?
Zhao Gang tapped the edge of the pot with his finger: "Concentrate on eating."
Zhao Xiaoxiu said "Oh," and glanced outside again. Apart from the mutated weeds swaying in the wind, there was indeed no one there.
The whole pot of pumpkin ended up in Zhao Xiaoxiu's stomach.
Without water to wash the pot, Zhao Gang simply tossed it aside.
He took out the cub's favorite baby, Abebe, and put it in her arms. After turning off the flashlight, the father and daughter lay down on the door panel together, and fell into a deep sleep as the night wind, carrying a faint smell of blood, blew in.
It was the early hours of the morning, before dawn.
The sounds of people getting up and getting ready could be heard from the campsite.
Suddenly, a terrified scream pierced the night sky and echoed throughout the entire town.
Zhao Xiaoxiu sat up with a start and realized that the screams were coming from behind the convenience store.
“Dad.” Zhao Xiaoxiu patted Zhao Gang’s face.
The man, who never needed to sleep, groggily opened his eyes, mimicking a human, and asked, "Are you hungry?"
Zhao Xiaoxiu was speechless for a moment, then pulled her father to the back of the convenience store.
The screams had stopped, and many people who had been drawn by the noise gathered around a clump of mutated weeds, staring in horror at the gruesome corpses on the ground.
Zhao Xiaoxiu squeezed through a row of long legs, glanced at them, and her small body instantly shivered. She quickly retreated.
Zhao Gang picked her up with a helpless expression, as if nothing had happened, and calmly returned to the convenience store to start a fire and boil water for his cub to drink.
Zhao Xiaoxiu glanced at him several times. Others might not know, but how could she not?
The living father committed murder!
"When did this happen? Why?" Zhao Xiaoxiu asked softly.
Zhao Gang replied, "Last night during dinner, they tried to kill you and me."
So he killed them first.
Zhao Xiaoxiu's eyes widened; she hadn't noticed at all!
"Dad, how did you do that?" Zhao Xiaoxiu asked in horror.
Just as Zhao Gang was about to speak, Captain Mo walked in with several people.
Zhao Xiaoxiu's heart raced.
Zhao Gang remained calm as always. He boiled the last pot of water, poured it back into an empty water bottle, put it in his backpack, and then handed a vial of nutrient solution to Zhao Xiaoxiu.
Only then did he stand up and face Captain Mo, who had a serious expression and was scrutinizing him.
"What do you have to say about the seven bodies behind the convenience store?"
Zhao Gang: No.
"You didn't notice such a commotion last night?"
Zhao Gang: No.
"The dismemberment is very much like the methods of a ghost, but there was no gnawing on the corpse. Don't you find that strange?"
Zhao Gang: "I don't think so."
Captain Mo choked back a sob.
Zhao Gang asked in confusion, "Don't you guys ignore this kind of thing?"
Captain Mo stared at him with a grim expression for a while, then suddenly turned and left.
They just left like that? Zhao Xiaoxiu felt it was a bit surreal.
Zhao Gang shrugged and smiled at his young child, "It's alright."
Zhao Xiaoxiu shook her head. No, she felt things had gotten much worse!
"Dad, is there anything else I don't know about you?"
