Madam Pei screamed in disbelief.
"Zhang Xian, don't forget who gave birth to you? Who gave you a second life! How dare you betray me like this? You're worse than a dog!"
She struggled to her feet and lunged at the person who was walking towards Ye Ningwan.
Zhang Qin no longer slowed down to wait for her as he used to.
Madam Pei fell back to the ground, her face slamming hard against the floor. Her hand touched Zhang Qin's heel, but found nothing.
She raised her head and shouted at Zhang Qin in a hoarse voice.
"Zhang Xian, come back here! I order you, give it to me right now!"
But Zhang Qin never looked back again.
He walked up to Ye Ningwan, who had a big smile on her face, stared into her smiling cat-like eyes, and asked, word by word.
"Ninth Madam, do I still have a chance?"
Ye Ningwan felt that this sentence seemed to be similar to one of the movies or TV shows she had recently watched.
Her eyes twitched, and she shrugged helplessly at Zhang Qin, then asked with a smile.
"How could I dare say no?"
Zhang Qin pursed his lips, showing no reaction, but his brows furrowed even more tightly than before, and his cold, expressionless face was covered with a layer of frost.
Ye Ningwan pouted.
Zhang Qin couldn't understand it at all, and he didn't watch TV dramas.
He's a boring and uninteresting person with no hobbies.
She silently complained to herself, then stepped forward and patted Zhang Qin on the shoulder, her smile still bright.
"I was just joking. I would be more than happy if you could come and help me."
Zhang Qin also seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
He made a promise to Ye Ningwan.
"As long as you trust me, I will never betray you!"
Ye Ningwan smiled and leaned close to Zhang Qin's ear, whispering something.
“Zhang Qin, trust is useless to you. No matter what I do or say, you may not believe me, so we don’t need trust between us.”
Zhang Qin suddenly raised his head, his eyes, already filled with gloom, now shrouded in an even deeper gloom, as sinister as a venomous snake, its tongue flicking out.
This person is a venomous snake; his blood is always cold.
No amount of trust is enough, because Zhang Qin can be instigated, doubted, and distrusted.
He has suffered so much, trust is such a luxury for him. Can he trust someone again so quickly?
Ye Ningwan held reservations.
but……
Ye Ningwan suddenly smiled and leaned closer to Zhang Qin, whispering in his ear.
"So, how about we make a deal?"
Zhang Qin stared at Ye Ningwan's smiling face with some confusion.
Then Ye Ningwan explained.
“I am a businessman. You sign a contract with me. We don’t need to trust each other. You create value for me, and I give you what you want. It’s mutually beneficial. If you want to leave me one day, you can.”
"You belong to no one, you are free, and I don't need you to be loyal to me. I just need you to do the work I assign you."
Zhang Qin's pupils suddenly contracted.
"That's all?"
Ye Ningwan smiled and nodded, then spoke to Zhang Qin.
"That's all there is to it, so there's no such thing as betrayal between us. I had no expectations of you, so I was not disappointed."
"But because I am a businessman, while you are my tool, I will protect and cherish it, because you are very important to me. Of course, while you serve me, I will do my utmost to utilize you, so be prepared! After all, you belong to me!"
Zhang Qin's lips trembled slightly.
He remained silent with his head bowed, not speaking for a long time.
Madam Pei, who was sitting on the ground, clearly heard what Ye Ningwan said.
She couldn't help but burst into mocking laughter.
She mocked Zhang Qin.
“Zhang Xian, listen to what Ye Ningwan is saying. She doesn’t trust you at all, and even uses you as a tool. She doesn’t treat you like a human being at all.”
"Do you think you'll have a good ending following Ye Ningwan? Be careful, she might use you up completely and then kick you to the curb!"
Madam Pei's sharp and sarcastic voice echoed in Ye Ningwan's ears.
Ye Ningwan raised an eyebrow and glanced at Zhang Qin, who was keeping his head down and remaining silent. No matter what Madam Pei said, he just kept maintaining that posture and didn't move.
Ye Ningwan, however, didn't worry about it at all.
If it were anyone else, they probably would have already turned on her after she said those words, but Zhang Qin is different!
Zhang Qin is an extremely insecure person.
He is a self-reliant and independent person, even to the point of self-destructive dedication.
He has some masochistic tendencies; such a person craves the feeling of being needed.
The more you need him, the more he can gain a sense of validation from him.
He would define this sense of identification as trust.
Sure enough, a moment later, Zhang Qin raised his head amidst Madam Pei's sarcastic and biting remarks, calmly looking at Madam Pei with his deep, dark pupils. However, Madam Pei's image could no longer be reflected in Zhang Qin's pupils at this moment.
"Madam."
However, those three simple words were enough to shut Madam Pei up.
She didn't know what was wrong with her, but she simply felt an uncontrollable power emanating from Zhang Qin, and the outburst of that power terrified her.
