Li Yiming parted the curtains and looked down at the Ninth Bureau's action team members coming and going downstairs.
A guard's alert voice came from behind: "What are you doing standing there? Get away from the window immediately. I'll count to three, and if you don't leave, I'll shoot!"
Li Yiming turned around, a half-smile on his face: "Alright, three, two, one. Fire."
The guard was taken aback, then became somewhat annoyed: "You think I wouldn't dare?"
"Has the Director already signed my execution order?" Li Yiming tilted his head. "Should a bodyguard carry out the execution?"
The guard's face turned red and then pale, and he said angrily, "The director said that as long as you don't die, you can fight anywhere else!"
“Alright then. If he's crippled, he won't be able to serve the Party and the country.” Li Yiming raised his hands. “Calm down, young man. New here, right? The Ninth Bureau doesn't have such obedient bodyguards. Where did you come from? The Seventh Bureau? The Fifth Bureau? A relative of the Director? The younger brother of Director Xiang's concubine? —”
With each question, Li Yiming took a step closer to the guard. By the time he asked the last question, he was already standing right in front of the guard.
Click! The gun barrel was pressed against Li Yiming's chest. This was the quickest and most effective way to silence someone.
Li Yiming stopped in his tracks, shrugged, and lowered his hand.
“I said, why didn’t you take me to the execution chamber?” Li Yiming looked down at the gun barrel. “I’m a weak woman, my courage is smaller than a sparrow’s egg. If you wave the branding iron in front of me, I’ll confess everything.”
"Stop pretending! The captain said there are plenty of spies lurking in the shadows besides you in the bureau. Do you think we'd alert them?"
"We still have people in the bureau?" Li Yiming leaned back slightly as the gun barrel pressed against him. "The way you're talking makes it sound like our Ninth Bureau is a sieve. Didn't Captain Qian already put all the suspicious individuals under surveillance?"
"Be honest! Don't ask questions you shouldn't!"
"Okay, okay—be honest, be honest." Li Yiming turned his back and slowly walked towards his desk.
"stop!"
Li Yiming paused, his back to the guard, and said, "What is it now? Can't I even go back to my chair and sit down?"
"The captain said you're an extremely dangerous and cunning person. Who wouldn't hide a gun in their desk?"
"You're really cautious enough." Li Yiming walked to the sofa and slumped down. "What kind of secret weapon could you possibly be hiding in your desk..."
The action team members outside the window had already concealed themselves in the shadows. Li Yiming's hands trembled slightly. She rubbed her hands together, revealing a relaxed smile: "I've been sitting on this sofa for most of the day..."
"Shut up!"
Li Yiming had no choice but to shut his mouth.
She glanced away, gazing absently at the sky outside the window. In a corner unseen by the guard, a bead of sweat slid down the back of her neck and into her clothes.
After a while, Li Yiming said, "Sitting here like this is too boring. At least let me listen to some music."
Stop trying to pull any tricks!
"It's just playing some music, not setting off firecrackers. Apart from the old guy who's being monitored, almost everyone else has been taken away by Captain Qian to carry out missions. Who are you worried about disturbing?"
"That won't do either!"
"Fine, fine, if you won't let me go, then I won't." Li Yiming shrugged.
The clock ticked away, and after a few more moments, Li Yiming turned around and laughed, "It seems there's no escaping Captain Qian's inescapable trap. But as you know, I've never gotten along with him—"
Li Yiming blinked: "How about I give you this incredible credit?"
