Chapter 100 The Inner World
The subway platform was dark, and the air was filled with a musty, decaying smell, mixed with a faint fishy odor and the smell of rusting metal.
The entire Zero team took out flashlights and followed the old staircase all the way to the subway tunnel with tracks.
Footsteps echoed in the deathly silent space.
The two platforms are separated by a distance, and you need to go through a tunnel to reach the air-raid shelter.
Tao Haohao jumped off the platform and led the way, Xie Tu protected Yun Zhao in the middle, and the other three followed behind carrying a large box containing masks.
None of them spoke.
They arrived at Qi Ling's secret base before midnight.
but……
"What are you doing here?" Duan Xi was speechless as he looked at Qi Ling, who was squatting inside the air-raid shelter.
He leaned motionless against the relatively well-preserved robot, seemingly asleep, without breathing. The sentries didn't notice him until they got closer.
Qi Ling groggily opened her eyes. "I came to check the supplies, sir. Why are you so late?"
After returning home, Qi Ling thought about the passage wall that the officer had smashed, and the more she thought about it, the more uneasy she became.
Anyone passing by will see it.
What if the supplies are lost?
After finishing his meal, he rushed over, intending to stay here and wait until tomorrow to go with his superiors to find the researcher and modify his robot.
The team members were collectively speechless.
If I come here now, how am I supposed to deal with this robot in front of him later?
Xie Tu looked down to check the time.
At 11:57, it's too late to trick people into leaving now.
The group looked at each other, unsure of what to do.
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward and tense.
Qi Ling looked at everyone's strange expressions and a sense of doubt arose in her heart.
"Sir, has something happened? Why are you all silent?" He stood up and glanced at everyone's faces.
Still, no one answered.
The officers standing in front of him were almost all constantly raising their wrists to check the time.
Only one person is different...
Her gaze seemed to linger on her forehead?
Qi Ling was confused and subconsciously touched her forehead, but found nothing.
Yun Zhao withdrew his gaze.
In the pitch-black environment, the burning will-o'-the-wisps were even more noticeable, displaying three colors...
"There might be something wrong with this robot; we need to fix it." It was Xie Tu's voice.
The team members remained silent.
They couldn't hide it any longer; they only had an hour, and they couldn't afford to delay their search for clues for the sake of a single mutant.
Upon hearing this, Qi Ling's expression changed instantly. He stared incredulously at the group dressed in black combat uniforms. "But didn't you promise me you would modify and repair it?"
Time: 11:59 AM.
Xie Tu seemed to be doing this on purpose, his voice indifferent, "Sorry, we don't have time, your robot must be destroyed."
Qi Ling took two steps back, shielding the robot, and finally realized, "You've been lying to me all along!"
"You never intended for me to come back with you, did you?!"
He looked distraught and shouted, "Why did you lie to me?!"
As his emotions spiraled out of control, nothing in the world changed.
In the pitch-black tunnel, even the dark matter floating in the air remained unchanged.
The Zero Team members looked at him with very complicated expressions.
If they could, they would love to take him home... but how could they go back when there are nearly two hundred years between them?
Only Xie Tu remained calm throughout.
Eliminate one suspicious lead.
In contaminated areas, the gatekeeper's emotions can influence changes across the entire world.
It can be confirmed that Qi Ling, who exists in a special way, is not the gatekeeper.
No one answered Qi Ling's question.
The sentries had no time to worry about him now; everyone released their senses and entered the final ten-second countdown.
Yun Zhao felt the man lean closer to her, and instead of holding her backpack strap, he grabbed her arm and gently pulled her into his arms.
"If we get separated, don't wander around. Just wait for us here..." Xie Tu's deep, pleasant voice came from above.
The will-o'-the-wisps are different colors. If the inner and outer worlds are distinguished by color, team members of different colors would likely be forced to separate.
Xie Tu was worried that she would be alone again.
Her mental threads were unable to control those emotionless monsters.
Aside from her mental strength, she has no combat ability whatsoever. She carries a gun at her waist, but she can't even hit the target.
Yun Zhao looked up and met the man's deep gaze.
Just as she was about to speak, she heard the familiar 'swish swish' sound of pages turning rapidly.
It's twelve o'clock.
The world is quietly changing.
The man's arm around her stiffened, as if afraid she would disappear from his embrace like last time.
Do S-class Sentinels experience fear?
Yun Zhao suddenly felt a strong urge to release his spiritual threads into his body to capture and sense his emotions.
What exactly did gold take away from him?
The two were in a very ambiguous position at that moment.
Yun Zhao's entire body was encircled in his arms, her face pressed against his chest, feeling his strong heartbeat.
Song Liang didn't know where to look, so he resignedly turned his head and looked out into the dark tunnel.
As soon as he extended his senses, his expression changed drastically.
Not only him, but almost all the sentinels present noticed the difference the moment the other world arrived.
Hearing the buzzing sound, Yun Zhao poked her head out from Xie Tu's arms. The bluish-green fluorescent light, following her thoughts, quickly flew out, illuminating the two dark tunnels.
The scene before me was horrifying.
At both ends of the tunnel stood hordes of mutants, standing motionless and densely packed, their bodies dripping black slime with a constant corrosive sound.
"Holy crap! So that's where all those monsters went!"
Tao Haohao subconsciously raised his weapon, ready to fire, only to remember that the guide had erected a mental barrier.
One shot would probably be like stirring up a hornet's nest, causing a riot.
Tao Haohao directly summoned his spiritual body.
When the brown bear appeared, its massive size almost completely blocked the entrance to the air-raid shelter.
"All the alien mutants that flooded into the contaminated area were hidden here by the gatekeeper?" Duan Xi suddenly realized.
No wonder there are no monsters on the ground.
But why did the gatekeeper do this? To prevent the monster from harming people?
Is it really that kind?
Qi Ling had stopped talking at some point.
Just like when a child cries and throws a tantrum, he breaks down for a long time, only to find that no one pays any attention to him.
It's like a joke.
He calmed down and heard their conversation, learning that many monsters had appeared out of nowhere in the tunnel.
His eyes widened suddenly, and his lips trembled slightly.
Qi Ling involuntarily stepped back, pressing himself tightly against his robot.
"What...what's going on?" Qi Ling managed to utter a few words, his voice filled with shock and fear.
Xie Tu realized what was happening, stiffened his arms, and released the person in his arms.
He turned his head, his expression gradually regaining its composure, and his gaze swept towards the innermost part of the air-raid shelter, where the young man was clinging tightly to the robot. "We suspect that your robot is related to these anomalies. Please hand it over to us."
Qi Ling hugged his robot, as if he had heard a huge joke, "Impossible! It's just a broken robot that can't be turned on, what does it have to do with those monsters?"
Qi Ling didn't know why the monsters outside weren't attacking them.
All he knew was that these people were deceiving him and even trying to destroy his only hope.
"You're not officers from the central base?"
