Yun Wei was put down by Isaac. There was a small hut about twenty meters away. They only needed to walk past the tree roots that were about two palms wide to reach the hut.
This is a herb-gathering hut with a typical medieval style. The branches that stand upright intersect to form a canopy, and the gaps are filled with moss for sound insulation and warmth. Over time, it has been coated with a layer of glossy greenish-brown luster.
Yun Wei silently gripped the hem of Isaac's clothes.
His legs were still trembling uncontrollably.
He didn't dare look down at all.
The curved surface underfoot is incredibly smooth; a slight misstep could lead to a fall.
But just then, Isaac said, "He's inside the cabin. Cloud, we have to walk over. It's too narrow here, and I might lose my balance if I carry you. Let's walk over together."
Yun Wei immediately took a deep breath, "Otherwise, I'll wait for you here?"
He lacks confidence in his balance.
In fact, if Isaac hadn't been standing next to him, he felt that if he had just stood there, he would have stumbled and fallen on flat ground before long.
Seeing his master subtly clench the hem of his shirt, Isaac's eyes lit up with a smile. He said gently, "I won't leave you here alone. Don't worry, just keep going and keep your eyes on the finish line. I'll follow behind you."
Yun Wei had no choice but to turn around.
Looking at the small house in the distance, he finally made up his mind.
One step, two steps.
He walked very carefully.
He suddenly remembered the time when he stood atop the smooth tower. Back then, although there were still fierce winds blowing, he also had magic to rely on.
It was the same at the very beginning of the apocalypse.
Humans have lost all external support and can only rely on the strength of their own bodies. Those who can run fast can be thankful to have lived another day, while those who can run slowly will eventually become food for the zombies, or become one of them.
Although he found no other commonalities between the magical world where magic could not be used and the apocalypse he had experienced.
His thoughts were in disarray, and before he had taken more than a few steps, he had already exhausted all his courage.
Although he was only a few dozen steps away from the hut, he found himself in a dilemma, unable to move forward or backward, and struggling to take a single step in the inverted space.
Then, he was helped up by Isaac.
The knight behind him had very large hands, and even though he was just casually resting his hand on his waist, Yun Wei suddenly had the illusion that he was being held by the other party.
"Don't stop, keep moving forward," Isaac encouraged.
He couldn't see Isaac's expression, but gritted his teeth and said, "If I can't walk anymore, I'll fall in... and then I'll drag you down with me!"
“Okay,” Isaac seemed to laugh. “Then I’ll carry you up again.”
The laughter was cheerful, just as hearty as when we first met, but it was almost deafening to the ears of those in front of him.
Yun Wei was speechless for a moment.
What strange things are they saying again?
He felt his cheeks burning hot again, and taking advantage of his shame and anger, he boldly took two steps forward.
Sure enough, the other person followed closely behind, and whenever he lost his balance, they steadied him.
No matter what you do, once you're halfway through, the rest seems much easier.
Just like once Wednesday is over, Friday won't be far away.
The two finally stood in front of the hut.
Isaac stepped forward and knocked on the door. "Senior, may we come in?"
The knuckles tapped against the tree gate, producing a rustling sound.
"Hmm." Immediately, a strange sound came through the crack in the door.
The sound was strange and inexplicable, unlike anything human could make; it sounded more like something else entirely.
This reminded Yun Wei of the puppet named Aiwass in the Alchemy City's arena.
The two exchanged a glance and finally pushed open the door to enter the small house.
The cabin was very narrow; once both of them were inside, it was difficult to even turn around. Isaac had to bend over and lower his head, otherwise he would have definitely damaged the entire roof.
The interior was fairly bright, with a small skylight propped up by branches and grass stems. The furnishings were simple, yet crammed full, consisting mostly of bundles of herbs tied upside down, aside from medicine-making equipment like mortars and pestles.
The strong aroma of herbs mixed together inevitably made people feel dizzy and lightheaded.
But the biggest problem was that they didn't see anyone.
Yun Wei felt a chill run down his spine. "Just now, we think we heard the senior's voice."
Isaac turned around with difficulty and confirmed, "Yes. He said, 'Hmm.'"
The two of them looked at each other in bewilderment.
However, at that moment, they suddenly heard a whooshing sound.
Something leaped and stomped over their heads one after another. The other party was too fast, and even a battle-hardened warrior like Isaac could not dodge it.
Fortunately, the other party did not have any malicious intent.
"Me, this! You two, you idiots, Guozi."
There, a bluish-brown nut sat on the edge of the mortar, strutting arrogantly at them.
The events unfolded so fantastically that Yun Wei thought he was still asleep.
“These are acorns.” Isaac examined the other party for a long time before solemnly introducing them to him.
Yun Wei nodded silently. Looking at the "handsome" little acorn, he responded with mixed feelings, "Oh."
"Wrong!" The little acorn immediately jumped up in dissatisfaction and corrected, "I, Tree, Oaks!"
Yun Wei tentatively asked, "You said your name is Oakes?"
"Wrong! Stupid, Guozi!" For some reason, the other person suddenly turned their face away.
He was completely bewildered, but Isaac explained with a smile, "He said he's Mr. Tree, or you can call him O. Oakes."
Upon hearing this, Oakes became overjoyed and began to spin the mortar and pestle around excitedly.
Yun Wei looked at Isaac with suspicion.
He just couldn't understand why Isaac could communicate with the other person without any problems.
But that's fine too, it's only natural that the task of gathering information will be left to Mr. Knight.
After a series of back-and-forth exchanges between the two, Isaac explained the whole story to Yun Wei.
O. Oakes is indeed the 'tree' itself of the Tower of All Laws.
However, the opponent had already suffered severe damage before the Lord of Chaos invaded, and such damage would take thousands or even tens of thousands of years to recover.
At its peak, O. Oakes was a magical library containing countless secrets.
Right now, he is just an innocent, adorable, and carefree seed.
"However, there were still some surprises."
Following Oakes' suggestion, Isaac bent down and searched through the crevices of the floorboards, finding a booklet that was quite badly eroded.
He handed the booklet to Yun Wei, who carefully peeled off the cover and quickly glanced at the table of contents. He discovered that it was actually a book containing the forbidden spells of the seven elements, titled "The Wise Man's Sayings".
“It contains seven forbidden spells, and they’re even series spells,” he shared with Isaac as he flipped through the pages.
And these series of magic spells often have very consistent prefixes.
For example, in this booklet, the wind element is "Necessary, tranquility at this moment," the effect of which is to deprive air and compress a vacuum; the lightning element is "Necessary, majesty at this moment," the effect of which is to forcibly ionize and shatter everything.
Earth is solemn, water is gentle, fire is furious, light is compassionate, and ice is ruthless.
And so on.
But Yun Wei suddenly froze.
Because he suddenly remembered the three forbidden spells recorded in "The Tale of the Dead," one of which was—
"It is necessary to lament at this moment."
The result, however, was mutual destruction.
However, the amount of information at hand is quite large, and he doesn't have time to think about the connection between the two.
He already knew that the Tower of All Laws, which everyone wanted to enter, had been lost to the past.
But he never imagined that the world's will, which everyone worships and prays to, is just an ignorant seed.
He put the book "The Wise Man's Sayings" into his spatial storage and asked Isaac, "Then why is he here pounding medicine?"
He had seen many herbs in Sid's laboratory, but the quantity of herbs here far exceeded that in the laboratory.
Before Isaac could even speak, Oaks shouted, "No! Work!"
Although it sounded ridiculous, Yun Wei remained unmoved and continued to look at the knight who could understand the other party's true meaning.
Isaac gestured as he explained, “Well, he said he didn’t want to do it either, but it’s his job, his job as the World Tree.”
"It seems that the continent of Zhuyuan needs a law... Herbs combined together can become 'potions,' and he needs to make the rules within them reasonable."
This involves even more profound theories.
The knight's explanation was extremely obscure, and the magician was completely baffled.
Yun Wei only knew that Sid's side did indeed turn herbs into materials for the alchemy process, but it seemed that they did not have the concept of "potions" yet.
It's unclear whether Sid's exploration led to Oakes working overtime, or whether Oakes' work will unlock the mysteries of the unknown.
Perhaps he could write to Sid later to explain this matter. Yun Wei thought to himself.
The exploration of the herb hut is complete, and there's not much point in staying any longer.
Just as the two were about to take their leave, they heard Oakes say, "Underwater, there's a surprise."
This time, even Yun Wei could understand it.
Beneath that rich, boiling sea of elements, there seems to be a new secret.
