Chapter 109 Farming

The next day, Xiao Wu arrived with all of Li Xingyun's belongings, insisting on staying to take care of his young master, saying he was afraid Tian Yu would bully him. Tian Yu was free to do as she pleased, but it was agreed that there was nowhere else to stay, and they would have to find their own way. Li Yong stayed for two days before leaving due to military business. Villagers gradually came to visit Tian Yu every few days, and Tian Yu always greeted them with a smile, but always maintained a distance. Perhaps because of Zhao Moyan, the villagers seemed much more approachable and respectable. Everyone greeted Tian Yu with polite smiles, the younger ones calling her "Auntie" and the older ones "Auntie." Suddenly, Tian Yu had gained the title of "Auntie."

As Li Yong was leaving, Tian Yu handed him a copy of Sun Tzu's Art of War, saying, "Give this to your lord and tell him that it's my way of thanking him for taking care of my son and me during this time. I don't have his power or influence, so I can only give him a book. I hope he won't find it offensive, and that we shouldn't have any further contact!"

“This!? I’ll give it to my older brother!” Li Yong said.

The next day, Zhao Moyan was somewhat surprised when he received the book, but upon hearing Li Yong's words, he smiled wryly and said, "Put it down!"

After Li Yong left, Zhao Moyan picked up the book, opened it, and saw the words on it. He knew at a glance that it was written by her, and only she could write such words. Only he in the world could recognize them. Looking carefully at the book in his hand, he realized that his little bit of money was nothing compared to such a valuable book. Zhao Moyan regretted his actions, but for her safety, he had no other choice but to do so.

Since Li Xingyun's several ointments proved effective, Tian Yu had an idea. Now, she spends her days discussing the production methods of those three ointments with Li Xingyun, exploring how to mass-produce them, and adding appropriate spices to enhance their aroma. Li Xingyun was initially dismissive, but gradually became involved after Tian Yu's persistent persuasion. As for the raw materials, because of the higher price she offered, villagers from nearby villages began sending Tian Yu herbs they had dug up in the mountains. To obtain more of the necessary herbs, Tian Yu made excellent use of her "Swift Wind" ability, traveling extensively every day, ensuring a steady stream of supplies to Lao Zhao Village. Her yard was filled with various herbs and flowers drying in the sun.

In her spare time, Tian Yu insisted on practicing calligraphy and writing articles every day. Although she didn't hire a tutor, she didn't dare to neglect Tangyuan's education. Tian Yu kept her life extremely busy, so she had no time to think about Zhao Moyan or anything else, making her days fulfilling and busy.

Even so, she still heard a lot about Zhao Moyan. Not long after she left, they set off back to the capital. Hearing this news, Tian Yu felt very sad. He left just like that, without even saying goodbye. It seemed there was truly no possibility between them. Although she had already had the jade hairpin repaired, and both hairpins were wrapped in gold so that no trace of the breakage could be seen, Tian Yu did not send the hairpins back. Instead, she put the hairpins in a wooden box and placed them at the very bottom of a large wooden chest, making them the most treasured possession.

As the amount of belongings increased, Tian Yu sought Zhao Jinxin's help to expand the house Zhao Moyan had built by adding a large courtyard. This new house had a larger area and more rooms, making it more convenient for future use. It took dozens of workers about three months to complete. When the workers who had built her house first heard that she was building another house, they all rushed to volunteer to work there.

The snail business of Gouzi had reached its off-season, so Tianyu asked him and Shuang'er to stay and help dry herbs for ten coins a day. Because of this, many half-grown children and some very young children from the village came to work for Tianyu. Tianyu needed manpower, but she refused those who were too young.

After much consideration, Tian Yu leased all the rice paddies in the village. Initially, the villagers disagreed, but Tian Yu offered a high rent, exceeding their farming income. So, after the village head's family and Gouzi's family agreed first, they gradually followed suit. They were just waiting for the wheat harvest so Tian Yu could take over the land. Before that, she was busy selecting seeds and cultivating seedlings—so busy that she forgot about Chen Chong and Zhao Moyan. If they hadn't been constantly in her sight, Tian Yu would have truly forgotten that she had once loved two people; one had left due to unrequited love, and the other had abandoned her again.

As the weather grew hotter, the wheat in the fields was harvested in just half a month, and Tian Yu began planting rice. Considering the manpower issue, Tian Yu handed over each family's land to them for management, paying 500 coins per mu (unit of land area). The requirement was to plant and manage the rice well. Those who managed it well would receive an extra 500 coins per mu when the rice was harvested. The villagers had never encountered such a good deal before, and they all happily agreed, promising to manage it well.

The next day, the fields of Lao Zhao Village were filled with people planting rice seedlings. Tian Yu distributed different seedlings to the fields one by one, and planted seedlings with Tang Yuan. Qiu Ju and Lv Liu also happily joined them. Ji Feng still stood on the bank, watching expressionlessly. Li Xing Yun didn't even want to look, and hid in his room to study his medical books.

Qiuju has always been quite steady, so Tianyu often entrusts her with many tasks. Lvliu, on the other hand, is more lively, so Tianyu always asks her to take care of Tangyuan and play with him. However, since returning to Lao Zhao Village, Tangyuan has had new playmates, and Lvliu has become a bit lonely. There is no one to laugh and play with anymore. Occasionally, she and Qiuju will play around, but Qiuju will always stop her immediately and remind her to do her job properly.

Now feeling finally liberated, I ran around in the fields with Tangyuan. It was perfect to leave the work of sowing rice seedlings to them. Unfortunately, when I hit the seedlings hard, the splashing water from the seedlings I threw got all over Jifeng. Seeing the look in Jifeng's eyes, Lvliu shrank back in fright and quickly stepped forward to apologize, saying, "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to. Why didn't you dodge? Don't you know martial arts?"

After saying that, Jifeng stared at her with piercing eyes. Green Willow quickly stretched out her dirty hands and wiped Jifeng's body haphazardly. Tianyu could tell that Green Willow was doing it on purpose, and Jifeng certainly saw it too. He angrily blocked her way and said, "Enough!" and then turned and left.
