Chapter 116 Assassination Attack (Part 1)

Tian Yu stood alone in front of the burned-down house, holding an umbrella and a letter in her right hand. Half a month had passed, and nothing like this had happened again, but Ji Feng had warned everyone to be careful, saying there were always strangers around. Tian Yu didn't understand Zhao Moyan's intentions. He wanted to burn her and Tang Yuan alive, but why did he only do it once and then disappear without a trace? Did he now switch to monitoring them? Everyone pleaded for him, and she didn't want to hate anyone, nor did she want to believe it all, but the facts were undeniable, forcing her to accept them.

Looking at the information Yu Niang had gathered for her, Tian Yu was certain it was true: Zhao Moyan and the Third Princess of the dynasty were engaged, and the wedding date was set. The letter ended with Zhao Moyan himself stating that he had never been engaged! Tian Yu raised her hand, glanced at the letter, and smiled. She thought, "Zhao Moyan, are you so desperate to marry the princess that you can't even tolerate my son and me? It's already been proven that Tangyuan isn't your son, so why won't you let them go?" Indeed, power and status are paramount everywhere; family and love are utter nonsense. Tian Yu coldly tossed the letter aside, turned, and left the ruins. Rain quickly soaked the letter on the ground. They couldn't be family or friends, so let them be enemies!

Li's parents were worried about letting Tian Yu move in with them, and Yu Niang was also concerned, advising her to stay in the city for safety. Although there was no evidence yet to prove Zhao Moyan was behind it, everyone knew that someone wanted to get rid of Tian Yu, but they didn't know why, or perhaps they knew but didn't want to believe it. In the end, Tian Yu couldn't refuse Li's insistence and agreed to move back today, so that Old Zhao Village could be quieter. However, a sudden downpour delayed their journey, and they would have to leave tomorrow.

The next morning, Tian Yu and her group loaded the car, cleared up the remaining matters, and then rode away from Lao Zhao Village with Tang Yuan. Tian Yu looked back at the village one last time. Gouzi and the others were still standing at the village entrance watching them leave. Tian Yu was a little reluctant, but after thinking about it carefully, she realized that her departure was a good thing for them. This place was still that peaceful little town.

They were very careful along the way until the carriage reached a dense forest. Suddenly, Jifeng called for a stop. Tian Yu nervously hugged Tangyuan tightly, afraid of encountering danger. So she chose to ride a horse. The carriage was only loaded with some things, and Green Willow and Autumn Chrysanthemum sat on it, so that everyone could be safer by being separated.

Jifeng glanced around warily, then drew his longsword. Tianyu was also tense, constantly watching her surroundings, wishing she had eight eyes so she could see everything. The forest was so quiet it was almost suffocating. Suddenly, an arrow shot straight towards Tianyu. Instinctively, Tianyu grabbed Tangyuan, but Jifeng swung his sword and cut the arrow in half just as it reached her. Then, countless swords flew towards them. Jifeng shouted, "Dismount and hide!"

Tian Yu, with Tang Yuan in tow, tumbled off the horse in a disheveled state. After rolling around on the ground once, she didn't have time to think and quickly got up, hiding behind the carriage. Qiu Ju and Lü Liu had also run down from the carriage and came to Tian Yu, protecting her and saying, "Madam, please get in the carriage, we'll take you away!"

“No! What about you? If you’re leaving, we’ll leave together,” Tian Yu said.

"Mother! Is Father going to kill us?!" Tangyuan asked.

"Mother doesn't know who it is yet." Tian Yu didn't want to hurt Tangyuan's young heart. Even if it was Zhao Moyan, she didn't want him to know. This was a feud between adults, and he shouldn't be involved.

“It wasn’t the Marquis! The Marquis wouldn’t do that,” Green Willow and Autumn Chrysanthemum insisted.

“Madam! Although we don’t know who it is, it can’t be the Marquis,” Qiuju said.

"I hope it's not him!" Tian Yu said in disbelief.

The wind blocked the arrows aimed at them, and finally the arrows stopped. But a group of men in black emerged from the bushes and charged at them with their knives. Tian Yu protected Tang Yuan in her arms, not wanting him to see this scene. With her other hand, she gripped the short sword in her hand. It was the one that the wind had given her when it came out. She didn't want to use it, but now, even for Tang Yuan's sake, she had no choice but to use something else to protect herself.

How could Jifeng alone withstand the attack of dozens of men in black? The men in black were getting closer and closer to them. The three women and a child were even less able to resist. When the men in black raised their knives to strike them, Tian Yu could only muster her courage and use her short sword to block, but the sword was thrown away the next second. Seeing this, Lvliu and Qiuju threw the packages they were carrying at the men in black, and then the group quickly ran away while keeping low to the ground. Tian Yu stuffed Tangyuan under the car and told him to hide well and not come out, and then ran in another direction, not turning back and raising her hands to shout, "Come on! Come and catch me! You bunch of idiots, I'm here, the person you're looking for is me!"

Seeing the men in black chasing after her, Tian Yu lifted her skirt and ran as fast as she could in a 100-meter sprint at school track and field. She only hoped to lure them away, to get as far away as possible. The farther she ran, the safer Tang Yuan and the others would be. The men in black behind her didn't disappoint; they all turned and chased after Tian Yu. Although Tian Yu sprinted forward at her fastest speed, she hadn't gone far when a knife was thrust straight into her face. Just a small step away, the knife was about to pierce her body. Startled, Tian Yu took a large step back. Then, several men in black caught up with her. One of them pointed a knife at Tian Yu and said, "You are Tian Yu!"

“Yes! I am Tian Yu!” Tian Yu replied defiantly.

"You're smart enough to know what's good for you. Don't blame us for being impolite!" the man in black said, raising his knife to strike.

Tian Yu quickly called out, "Wait...wait a minute, before I die, can I ask you brothers a question?"

The group hesitated for a moment, then Tian Yu knelt down pitifully and pleaded, "I am a dying man, please have mercy on me and let me die knowing why."

"Don't waste your breath on her! We need to deal with her quickly so we can go back and report!" another person said.

"Please, gentlemen, I have not offended anyone. I really don't understand who wants to kill me. Give me an explanation before you kill me!" Tian Yu continued.

The group exchanged glances and nodded. Tian Yu immediately added, "I'm just an ordinary village woman. I really don't understand who I've offended that would require you gentlemen to go to such lengths to hunt me down?"

The group exchanged glances, and the man in black who had spoken first said, "Then go ask your ex-husband!"

"Marquis Zhenbei!" Tian Yu wasn't surprised, only understanding. Was it really as she thought? Sure enough, there are Chen Shimei everywhere!

"Exactly!" The man in black finished speaking and prepared to draw his knife to finish off Tian Yu. Tian Yu stood up, straightened her clothes, and calmly said, "Thank you for your explanation, brothers. Those people have nothing to do with me; they were just passersby. Please let them go."

"Fine! We'll only kill you!"

"Okay! Let's get started!" Tian Yu said with her eyes closed.
