Tian Yu spent countless days in this dark and hopeless state. Every day, Wu Yaohui would come to see her. Tian Yu's eyes were vacant as she gradually began to obey the man in front of her, doing whatever he told her to do without any resistance. The only thing she resisted was not wanting to reveal the process of making explosives. Every time she was about to speak, she would get a headache, but it was only a matter of time before she could do it.
After some time, Tian Yu felt as if she had regained her memories. Images would flash through her mind from time to time, and a voice kept telling her not to give in, not to surrender, but she couldn't remember why. Until one day, she was forced to take a medicinal bath again. Tian Yu no longer wanted to resist and obediently let the palace maids serve her. While getting dressed, a palace maid put something in Tian Yu's hand. Tian Yu's lifeless eyes lit up, and she looked at the palace maid, but the maid kept her head down and didn't look at her at all. Tian Yu's remaining rationality told her to hide what she was holding.
Back in the secret room, in the dim light streaming through the window, Tian Yu opened her palm. A small pill wrapped in a slip of paper was inside. The slip of paper read: "Tian Yu, take this pill. You will remember everything." Tian Yu hesitated for a long time, staring at the pill in her hand. Wu Yaohui had forbidden her from eating anything indiscriminately. Could she eat this? Who gave it to her? Why should she eat it? Why couldn't she eat it? Eating or not eating! The thought tormented her, giving her an increasingly painful headache. Hearing someone enter, Tian Yu swallowed the slip of paper and the pill without hesitation.
When Wu Yaohui entered, he saw Tian Yu kneeling motionless on the bed. He stepped forward and asked, "How is the Empress feeling today?"
After swallowing, Tian Yu felt a cool sensation spreading from her abdomen throughout her body. Then, her mind raced, and past images flashed through her mind.
Wu Yaohui sensed something was wrong, sat down on the bedside and pulled Tian Yu up. He saw her crying. Tian Yu suddenly realized something and cried, "My head hurts so much!"
Wu Yaohui breathed a sigh of relief and said with a smile, "Don't think about anything, it'll be fine in a bit."
"I don't want to take a bath, I don't want to take medicine, my head hurts so much!" Tian Yu cried.
"It's alright, it'll be fine after a nap." Wu Yaohui gently coaxed Tian Yu to sleep, only leaving after she had calmed down and fallen asleep.
Hearing the stone door close, Tian Yu opened her eyes. Her gaze was no longer empty and lifeless; she remembered who she was. She recalled many things about herself, though some were still hazy. She remembered Zhao Moyan, murmuring his name. But she knew that sooner or later she would forget everything. Reaching slowly into her bosom, she pulled out the jade hairpin Zhao Moyan had given her. She had painstakingly hidden it, evading the palace maids' search. In the darkness, Tian Yu stroked the hairpin, a decision forming in her heart.
With Tian Yu's full cooperation, a few days later when Wu Yaohui pushed open the door and saw Tian Yu, she was still half asleep when someone pulled her up and hit her head. Tian Yu grimaced in pain and cried out, "It hurts! It hurts! Who are you? What do you want? Let me go! Where are you taking me?"
Wu Yaohui pulled Tian Yu up, looked at her, and said, "Who am I?!"
"Who are you? Do I know you?" Tian Yu looked up at the man in front of her and asked curiously.
Don't you remember me?
Tian Yu shook her head, then suddenly smiled and said, "You're really good-looking. Who are you?"
"Then do you remember who Zhao Moyan is?"
"Zhao Moyan? I don't know him. Is your name Zhao Moyan?"
Wu Yaohui smiled at Tian Yu, then carefully asked, "Do you remember your name?"
Tian Yu shook her head innocently. Seeing this, Wu Yaohui asked again, "Your name is Tian Yu, don't you remember?"
Tian Yu looked around, then looked at Wu Yaohui strangely and said, "My name is Tian Yu? What's your name?"
Wu Yaohui laughed heartily and said, "I am the Emperor, you can call me Ziqian."
"Ziqian?! Where is this?"
"This is the palace, and you are the Empress, my Empress."
"Empress, what is an empress?"
"I'll tell you slowly later."
Do you remember dynamite?
"Explosives!? What are explosives? Can you eat them?"
Wu Yaohui shook his head and pulled Tian Yu away, "Where are we going?"
Wu Yaohui led Tian Yu out of the secret room and arranged for her to stay in a side hall of his palace. Tian Yu looked at Wu Yaohui with a puzzled expression and asked, "Where is this?"
"You'll be living here from now on."
"Such a big house, and I live alone?"
Yes, you live alone.
"So where do you live?"
"I live over there. You can come to me anytime if you need anything." Wu Yaohui said and was about to leave.
"Wait!" Tian Yu said fearfully, grabbing his sleeve.
"What's wrong?" Wu Yaohui asked with a smile.
“I’m scared, I don’t want to be here alone.”
"It's okay, they'll stay with you. I'll be right back."
Tian Yu let go of his hand, feeling wronged, and watched Wu Yaohui leave. Wu Yaohui did not leave immediately after leaving the door, but stood outside the door.
Tian Yu lowered her head to hide the fleeting disgust in her eyes, then looked up, yawned, and smiled at the palace maid, saying, "I'm so sleepy, I really want to sleep."
Tian Yu climbed into bed by herself, kicked off her shoes, and fell fast asleep. Wu Yaohui stood outside for a long time to make sure Tian Yu was really asleep before leaving.
The next day, Wu Yaohui personally brought the medicine and fed it to Tian Yu. Tian Yu frowned and said, "It's so bitter. Can I not drink it?"
"You're not fully recovered yet, so just drink it all as I say."
Tian Yu nodded and obediently drank it. After finishing, Tian Yu looked out the window and asked softly, "I want to go out and take a look."
"Okay! Come on, I'll go out with you and have a look."
Wu Yaohui took Tian Yu to the Imperial Garden, where spring was in full bloom. Tian Yu looked at the flowers in front of her and suddenly asked, "Who am I? How did I get here?"
Wu Yaohui explained, "Your name is Tian Yu. This is the imperial palace. Have you forgotten what just happened?"
"Just now? What just happened?"
Wu Yaohui looked at Tian Yu, trying to read something in her eyes. After a long while, he said, "Nothing happened?"
"I'm so hungry, I want to eat."
"You just had breakfast, don't you remember?"
"Really? I don't remember?" Tian Yu asked Wu Yaohui, puzzled.
"Since you're hungry, let's go back!"
"Um!"
Wu Yaohui had someone notify the imperial kitchen to prepare a meal. Tian Yu ate with relish, clearly hungry. Wu Yaohui kept observing Tian Yu's every move. While eating a chicken leg, Tian Yu tore off another and offered it to Wu Yaohui, saying indistinctly, "You eat too!"
"I won't eat it, you eat it!"
"It's so delicious, aren't you going to eat it?"
Seeing Wu Yaohui shake his head, Tian Yu happily ate the chicken leg in her hand, wiping her mouth afterward. Wu Yaohui's brows furrowed; he'd never seen such an eating habit before, especially from a woman. After the meal, Wu Yaohui read aloud several poems Tian Yu had written, asking if she remembered them. Tian Yu said she didn't. He then asked if she remembered rice breeding. Tian Yu looked at Wu Yaohui with a puzzled expression, knowing nothing about it.
