Chapter 49 Clues

Zhao Moyan followed not far away and saw Tian Yu standing by the riverbank. Unexpectedly, she jumped in the next second. He quickly rushed forward and dove into the water as well. Seeing Tian Yu sinking with her eyes closed, Zhao Moyan swam over to pull her ashore. When Zhao Moyan got close, Tian Yu opened her eyes and saw him. She pushed him away forcefully, turned around, and swam to the shore on her own. Once ashore, Tian Yu wrung out the water from her clothes and hair. Although the weather wasn't cold anymore, she was still chilly with her clothes wet.

Zhao Moyan followed closely behind and went ashore. Ignoring his disheveled appearance, he walked up to Tian Yu and angrily grabbed her arm, saying, "Are you crazy? You want to kill yourself for a man!"

Tian Yu tried to shake him off, but he held on even tighter. Tian Yu said angrily, "Let go of me! My affairs are none of your business!"

"You don't need me to take care of it? Fine, then you're not going to take care of the glutinous rice balls either?"

"Let go! Zhao Moyan, you bastard, you're hurting me, let go!" The more Tian Yu struggled, the tighter Zhao Moyan held on.

Hearing Tian Yu cry out in pain, Zhao Moyan finally let go. Tian Yu immediately turned around, not wanting to look at Zhao Moyan, and said angrily, "Even without me, Tangyuan still has you, doesn't he?! I know you will take good care of him. He'll be better off with you than with me."

"Fine! If you continue like this, I'll send the glutinous rice balls to the temple and never bother with them again," Zhao Moyan said in a deep voice.

"You! You dare! You're his father! Do you want him to become a monk at such a young age?!" Tian Yu turned around and looked at Zhao Moyan, wanting to confirm if he would really do it. But seeing Zhao Moyan's cold and determined expression, Tian Yu was certain that this man would definitely do it.

"I mean what I say!" Zhao Moyan gave an affirmative answer.

"You!" Tian Yu closed her eyes to calm herself down and not get angry.

"Where's your horse? I want to go back to the county town!" Tian Yu opened her eyes, looked around, and changed the subject, not wanting to continue arguing with him.

Zhao Moyan whistled, and a moment later, the big black horse came running out of the woods. Zhao Moyan said, "Go back and change your clothes before you go." He gave Tian Yu a strange look. Tian Yu looked down at herself and realized that her clothes were sticking to her body because they were wet, and they were thin, so her undergarments were clearly visible.

Tian Yu quickly covered her chest with her hands to avoid being exposed. Zhao Moyan didn't say anything, took off his coat and threw it to Tian Yu, walked to the horse and gestured for Tian Yu to mount. However, Tian Yu tried a few times but couldn't get on. She turned to look at Zhao Moyan, only to be grabbed by the waist and lifted up and placed on the saddle by him. Tian Yu was so frightened that she almost screamed. She thought to herself that she didn't expect such a fair-skinned person to be so strong, but then she thought that he was a soldier, so it made sense.

Zhao Moyan mounted his horse, grabbed the reins, turned the horse around, and headed towards Tian Yu's residence along the riverbank. Tian Yu sat in front, held tightly by Zhao Moyan, not daring to move. The horse didn't travel fast on the mountain road. When they saw Gouzi and the others on the riverbank ahead, Tian Yu told Zhao Moyan to stop and said to Gouzi, "Gouzi, your aunt is going away for a few days, so I need you to look after the things at home. Take all the food from the kitchen home, otherwise it will be a waste if it spoils when your aunt comes back."

"Okay, Auntie, don't worry, I'll definitely take good care of you," Gouzi said loudly.

"Auntie, my sister, she?" Shuang'er asked, mustering her courage after a long struggle.

"Don't worry, Shuang'er, your sister is safe with Tangyuan!"

"That's good, thank you Auntie. You've gone to so much trouble. I'll help take care of the dog with me, so please don't worry!" Shuang'er waved her hand and said loudly.

The two then rode back home, changed into clean clothes, and Tian Yu came out first. When she heard Zhao Moyan was still inside, she locked the door and said loudly, "Zhao Moyan, I'm leaving now. I'll return your horse to you later."

"Tian Yu, open the door," Zhao Moyan said coldly as he walked to the door.

"No, figure it out yourself. See you in the county town." He ran off without giving Zhao Moyan a chance to speak.

"Tian Yu! Come back here right now!" Zhao Moyan said angrily from inside the door.

"Open the door!"

Ignoring Zhao Moyan's angry roars behind her, Tian Yu ran to the door. This time, she was more experienced. She led the horse to a rock near the door, stepped on the rock, and managed to mount it. The horse was obedient, and with Tian Yu's gentle persuasion, it slowly led her towards the village entrance. Tian Yu asked it if it could hurry up, but the big black horse completely ignored her and continued walking on its own. It hadn't gone far when a whistle blew, and it immediately turned around and ran back, and very fast at that. Tian Yu was so frightened that she almost fell off the horse. Instinctively, she reached out and grabbed the horse's neck, shouting, "Brother Black Horse, don't turn back! Stop!"

But the black horse had already reached the courtyard gate. Zhao Moyan was looking at Tian Yu on horseback with a gloomy face. Tian Yu turned her head away from him. Zhao Moyan walked step by step to the front of the horse. Tian Yu kept swallowing nervously, but she just wouldn't look at Zhao Moyan. She wondered if he would throw her off the horse. But Zhao Moyan leaped onto the horse, took the reins from Tian Yu's hand, and said in a deep voice, "If you want to know about Chen Chong, I can tell you."

“No need! I’ll find him and have him tell me himself,” Tian Yu retorted.

"Okay, whatever you want, sit tight!"

Before Tian Yu could react, Zhao Moyan tightened the reins, and the black horse reared up and neighed. Tian Yu fell into Zhao Moyan's arms. Startled, she sat up straight and didn't move again. The two then rode quickly towards the county town. It was already afternoon, and the sun was already setting.

They galloped at breakneck speed, so fast that Tian Yu suspected Zhao Moyan was doing it on purpose. Halfway there, Tian Yu felt her stomach churn, and she yelled for Zhao Moyan to stop. She dismounted and ran to the roadside, vomiting for a long time, but because she hadn't eaten, nothing came up. Zhao Moyan untied a water bottle from his horse and handed it to her. Tian Yu drank a few sips and felt much better. Tian Yu pointed at Zhao Moyan and said, "You! You did this on purpose, didn't you!"

"No, it's just that you're not used to it," Zhao Moyan said. He thought to himself that apart from the first time, he did want to scare Tian Yu, but later he was just trying to hurry on his way. It couldn't be considered that he deliberately messed with her. But seeing her pale face, Zhao Moyan still felt a little guilty.

Tian Yu steadied her breathing, mounted her horse, and continued on her way. This time, seeing how unwell Tian Yu was, Zhao Moyan slowed down, but Tian Yu felt increasingly unwell, her vision blurring. She didn't know if it was because it was getting dark or something else, but she kept telling herself she couldn't faint; Chen Chong hadn't been found yet, and Tang Yuan was still waiting for her. Zhao Moyan, sensing something was wrong, moved closer and felt Tian Yu's feverish body. He touched her forehead and said, "Tian Yu, you have a fever! Wake up, don't sleep!"

"I'm fine, just a little cold," Tian Yu said weakly.

"Hang in there, we'll be there soon," Zhao Moyan said nervously, holding Tian Yu tightly. Once they were on the official road, the road improved considerably, and Zhao Moyan quickened his pace again, heading towards the county town.
