Tangyuan could clearly see the smiles on her parents' faces. Tianyu, seeing that the effect was good, prepared to continue persuading. Madam Ke sighed first and said, "But if he doesn't marry, where am I supposed to find him a son? Why don't you leave these two children here for a while?" After Madam Li finished speaking, she looked at Tangyuan and Xiaoju on the table, while Uncle Li was still eating calmly.
"Mother, don't waste your time on me," Li Xingyun said with a dark face.
“Your father and I will not be at ease until you get married and have children,” Li said angrily.
"Children shouldn't interrupt adults. Look how upset you've made your mother." Tian Yu patted Li's back and said to Li Xingyun, seeing that Li was both angry and sad.
"You call me a child? I'm much older than you."
"What's the use of being older? You're still just a kid. Before you get married, you're still a child no matter how old you are."
"You, Lord Marquis, aren't you going to do anything about your wife?" Li Xingyun, still indignant, turned to Zhao Moyan for help.
"Tian Yu!"
"You shut up too. Men shouldn't interrupt when women are talking," Li said before Zhao Moyan could finish.
Upon hearing this, Tian Yu gave Li a thumbs up. Uncle Li, who was eating, saw his son's pleading look, quickly finished his meal, stood up, and said, "I'm done eating. I'll go to the front hall and see what's going on. You two can chat."
After Uncle Li left, Mrs. Li continued, "Look at these troublemakers, all they know is how to treat patients and save lives, but they can't help with anything at home."
"Auntie, don't be angry. There's always a way. How about I introduce you to Mr. Li next time I see a suitable girl?"
"Really, that's great, but where am I supposed to find the child with the method you just mentioned?"
"Don't worry, Auntie. I just met some orphans on the street and I'm planning to take them in. If you think they're good, you can keep some of them."
"Really! That's wonderful! As the saying goes, children attract children, maybe I can even have a grandson or granddaughter. Where is she?"
"Yes! Everyone is in the front hall. The Marquis and I originally planned to have the two renowned doctors check if the children were sick, so we brought them all here."
“Really! Let’s go take a look right now.” Mrs. Li stood up impatiently and said.
"Okay, I'll help you."
The group then went to the front hall, and Tangyuan and Xiaoju followed them. Li was overjoyed to see the group of children in front of her. Just as she was about to go up and see them, Tianyu stopped her and whispered in her ear, "Let the doctor take a look first. It's not too late for Auntie to make a choice after he's sure everything is alright."
Li nodded in agreement and quickly arranged for the father and son to take the children's pulses. Li Xingyun had a dark face but could only do as he was told. The children lined up in two pairs, and after the two doctors diagnosed them, none of them were seriously ill. Only a few had a slight cold and were fine after taking two doses of medicine. The rest were pale and thin because of long-term malnutrition.
“Aunt, I’m relieved now. If you like any of them, you can keep them. If you don’t think it’s right, the Marquis and I will think of another way. To be honest, the Marquis and I acted on impulse. We don’t even have a decent place to live ourselves. We’re still living in the accommodations arranged by the government. I don’t know where to put these children, but I don’t want them to sleep on the streets.”
“It’s alright, daughter, stay! Stay! I think it’s fine, there should be enough room in the backyard,” Li said happily.
"This isn't appropriate. This is a clinic; I'm afraid I might disturb you," Tian Yu said, winking at Zhao Moyan before turning to Li Shi.
"Oh, don't worry about disturbing us. The backyard is full of medicinal herbs. So many houses are just sitting empty and getting moldy. This is good because it can bring us some life. Don't worry about it."
"Really? That would be great."
"Mother, you need to think this through. There are more than a dozen children. We don't have time to take care of so many people," Li Xingyun reminded her.
"Don't worry, Auntie, I'll send three servants to help look after things, and two cooks to help with the cooking. I'll pay for it myself," Zhao Moyan said. Li Xingyun was completely at her wit's end. She looked at her father, who shook his head and sighed.
"That's great! Xiao Wu, come here quickly and have a few people clean up a few empty rooms in the backyard and take the children there."
"Auntie is kind-hearted and will surely have a lot of grandchildren in the future," Tian Yu continued to praise Li Shi.
"Hehehe, good, good, good." Li was so happy she couldn't stop smiling.
Tian Yu said loudly to the children, "Children, the Marquis and I haven't found a place yet, so we'll arrange for you to stay at Doctor Li's clinic for now. You must be obedient, don't cause trouble, and don't cause any problems for Doctor Li's family, understand?"
Seeing that the children all nodded in agreement, Tian Yu continued, "Tomorrow I will find a teacher to teach you to read. You must study hard so that you won't have to rely on others to live in the future, understand?"
"Understood!" everyone said in unison.
"Alright, the Marquis and I will come to visit you when we have time. Quickly kneel down and kowtow to Doctor Li and his family to thank Madam Li for taking you in."
A group of children knelt down and kowtowed to the three members of the Li family to express their gratitude. The Li couple were so moved that they quickly stepped forward to help the children up one by one, and then followed the servants to the backyard.
Tian Yu felt she had finally resolved a major issue. She smiled at Zhao Moyan and then looked at the two children. After explaining everything, Tian Yu and Zhao Moyan left the clinic with the children. By the time they returned to their residence, it was almost dark. After the four of them had dinner, Zhao Moyan took Tangyuan to the study, while Tian Yu stayed behind to tell Xiaoju a story. Once both children were asleep, Tian Yu went back to her room and sat at her desk to organize the news she had heard over the past few days.
Zhao Moyan knocked on the door and came in, saying, "Are you still looking for Chen Chong?"
"Hmm! What's wrong? Is something the matter?" Tian Yu asked.
