Suddenly, an idea popped into her head, so she looked up at Grandma You and asked, "Could you tell me about the legends of the worship of gods in primitive tribes?"
Following Xi Xi's gaze, Granny You saw that on the ancient and weathered altar, there were some offerings that had been weathered beyond recognition by the years. "These shouldn't be for worshipping gods, right..." she said slowly.
Seeing that Xi Xi was somewhat puzzled, Granny You continued to explain, "Look at the way the offerings are arranged; it's more like a family memorial, used to remember loved ones."
"Since this area is used for sacrifices, why does the other end of the stone path connect to the cave of the Death Worm?" Xi Xi frowned, muttering to herself in confusion.
These matters of sacrificial rites were indeed outside Xi Xi's knowledge. She silently picked up the bowl and drank the last mouthful of warm noodle soup in one gulp.
She looked up again at the old altar. It was covered with a thick layer of dust, cold and lonely.
For some reason, a sense of sadness welled up in her heart, and she vaguely felt that some truth was emerging, but it remained like looking at flowers through a fog, something she couldn't quite explain.
After dinner, Xi Xi put away the washroom and used a vehicle companion charm to put the car away.
Then the group of survivors gathered in the corner. No one spoke; they just sat quietly, waiting for night to fall completely.
Time passed by, and suddenly, the ground seemed to tremble. Xi Xi quickly sat up straight, remembering the morning she spent the night in Dark Night Canyon.
She hurriedly turned to Grandma You and asked if the tremors happened every day. Grandma You, however, had no recollection of it, as if she had forgotten everything from the past few days and couldn't remember anything at all.
NPCs are just NPCs after all… Xi Xi sighed inwardly. The intense tremors gradually subsided, and the cave returned to silence.
The surroundings were deathly silent, with only the faint sound of breathing audible.
The worm burrow was still a muddy mess, but the tremors seemed all too normal to the swarm deep underground.
As expected, just as Xi Xi had predicted, a new path suddenly appeared in the cave, as if it had been cleaved open by a knife.
Immediately afterwards, rows of terrifying poisonous insects surged out like a tidal wave, desperately trying to escape from the slightly narrow rock tunnel.
In the blink of an eye, the once crowded cave was now filled only with the enormous death worm, surrounded by a few black poisonous insects.
At that moment, a spark streaked across the sky, illuminating the darkness in the cave.
With a loud "boom," the sound of shattering glass exploded deep within the cave, and raging flames quickly spread in all directions.
That was a Molotov cocktail made by Xi Xi herself.
She cleverly used the glass jars of alcoholic beverages from the locked treasure chest, thoroughly mixing the alcohol with gasoline. Then she cut Grandma You's tattered clothes into thin strips and stuffed them into the bottle opening, thus creating a makeshift Molotov cocktail.
At this moment, under the protection of the invisibility talisman, Xi Xi did not hesitate to light another Molotov cocktail and smash it hard into the cave.
The raging flames, like a ferocious beast opening its blood-red maw, swept towards the remaining black poisonous insects with overwhelming force.
The black venomous insects that had been lying in the burrow were instantly engulfed by the flames. They rolled, struggled, and leaped in the sea of fire, crackling and popping all the time, as if it were their final swan song.
In the sea of fire, the shadowy figure of an enormous worm appeared and disappeared, its massive body twisting and struggling as if it were enduring immense pain.
With a series of extremely shrill roars, the terrifying creature suddenly leaped into the air and plunged headfirst into the deep mud and sand.
The dead worms darted through the mud and sand at an astonishing speed, and the raised sand mounds, illuminated by the firelight, seemed to haunt the area like ghosts.
Xi Xi's heart sank. She stared intently at the scene before her, feeling dizzy and her heart leaping into her throat.
Just then, without any warning, the dead worm burst out of the ground once more.
It rises from the ground like a giant pillar supporting the sky, shaking apart layers of sandstone, resembling a blood-red python with its skin covered in damp mud and sand, shimmering with a heart-stopping color.
Along with it came a violent torrent, the turbid groundwater splashing out like a volcanic eruption, washing away the surrounding sand and soil, extinguishing the fire instantly, leaving only billowing smoke.
The underground water kept gushing up and quickly flooded the entire cave.
The sparks reflected in Xi Xi's eyes gradually faded away.
At that moment, a strong sense of unease and fear suddenly welled up in her heart.
Before I could think, the death worm leaped up in a rage. Its long antennae thrashed wildly, each swing generating tremendous force.
In an instant, the water surged forth like a flood bursting its banks. The death worms searched back and forth, but could not find the culprit.
It had no idea that Xi Xi was already standing firmly on the ground, without even getting a single finger wet.
