Chapter 114 Digging and Making Another Contribution

The snow fell heavier and heavier, and the entire tobacco field was completely covered in white snow, making it impossible to see its original appearance.

"Mr. Joey!"

Carl came to visit again.

"You've arrived?"

Joey wasn't surprised by Carl's arrival. After all, several months had passed since he agreed to Carl's request, and Carl's patience was already quite remarkable.

"It's not that I'm urging them on purpose, it's just that the people of our tribe are already impatient to see the heavy snow falling!"

Carl, not wanting to annoy Joey, explained the reason.

"I understand, it's not easy for you either. Now that the snow has fallen, we should naturally put what we were talking about on the agenda!"

Joey whispered a few words in Carl's ear, and a smile gradually appeared on the latter's face.

"Alright, I'll go back to my people to prepare!"

Carl thanked Joey again, turned and left, completely different from when he arrived.

Joey also returned to the furnace.

"Big Beard, take a break after you finish smelting this batch of ore! But the furnace must keep burning; don't let it stop!"

Joey instructed the busy bearded man.

"Okay, I'll tell Martha!"

The bearded man couldn't be bothered to ask why; he'd rather leave that brain-taxing thing to Joey.

After arranging the smelting furnace, Joey headed towards the underground passage he and WaWa had dug together. Although WaWa did most of the digging, Joey had at least participated, so it was only natural for him to be credited.

Wawa is a good worker, and he is proactive in his work. Even with such thick snow, he still went out to look for ore despite being advised against it. Most importantly, he asks for very little pay, just enough to fill his stomach.

rustling...

Joey stepped through the thick snow and began to search and dig.

However, finding a place to dig in the vast expanse of white snow was not easy. This kobold treated the snow like soil, and instead of walking on it, he dug a passage directly out of the snow.

Joey thought it was good too, as it not only helped him hide his body but was also very convenient.

However, the passage was still too short for Joey to use.

He crouched down, tilted his head to the side of a snow tunnel beneath him, and shouted loudly, "Waaa, you're back!"

Although most of the sound will be absorbed by the snow, this is still a pretty good method. If you dig a little deeper, you should be able to hear it.

Sure enough, not long after, rustling sounds began to come from the snow-covered passage, and something was running towards them.

"Dig! Dig!"

Wawa emerged from the tunnel, but his eyes seemed panicked, and he kept calling out.

Joey was a little confused and followed WaWa's gaze toward the passage again.

The sounds inside the passage didn't stop; it seemed like something was rushing towards them at high speed.

"Huh?"

Just as Joey was wondering what was going on, she bent down again and suddenly saw a dire wolf's face appear in the passage.

"ah!"

Joey exclaimed in surprise, quickly stood up and took several steps back, drawing a brand new longsword with her right hand.

WaWa reacted quickly, swiftly hiding behind Joey.

The dire wolf emerged from the tunnel, its fierce gaze shifting from Joey to the digger behind him.

"Waa, what have you been doing? You didn't destroy this wolf's den, did you?"

As soon as Joey said this, his brow furrowed suddenly as he noticed the reins on the dire wolf.

"Dig, dig!"

WaWa stood behind Joey, bouncing around and waving a fist-sized gem in her hand.

The dire wolf bared its teeth, staring intently at Dig, completely ignoring Joey.

Dire wolves are the mounts of tribal members and are usually companions of orcs. The sighting of a dire wolf with reins on the outskirts of Sandstone City indicates that there are other orcs nearby.

Wow, you really know how to pull something out of me!

Joey couldn't help but turn around and say something, but he was immediately shocked by the gems that Digger was holding.

"My goodness, wow, you're truly my lucky charm! You found such a huge gem!"

Joey didn't care where the gem came from—whether he dug it up himself or stole it from the tribe—since it was now in front of him, it was his.

"Waaah, sweetie, come here, give it to me!"

After Joey finished speaking, he reached out his hand.

Digging, who had always obeyed Joey's every word, hesitated this time. He stared at the gem in his hand, looking at it again and again, very reluctant to part with it.

"Good boy, good boy, I'll keep it safe for you. You can look at it anytime you want!"

Joey slowly approached Digger, afraid of startling him and scaring him away; this gem made all the gold coins in his pocket pale in comparison.

Although reluctant, Wawa eventually handed the gem to Joey.

Joey was overjoyed.

"Awooo—"

The dire wolf behind him suddenly let out a long howl, as if calling for its companions.

"Oh no!"

Joey hurriedly took the gem, not having time to examine it closely, and immediately put it into his pouch. He needed to deal with the dire wolf in front of him as soon as possible.

He charged at the dire wolf with his longsword, attempting to kill it with a single blow.

But the wolf didn't seem stupid either. Seeing that Joey was holding a longsword, it jumped away and kept its distance from him.

"Hey, you're a somewhat clever dire wolf, but your cleverness is a joke in front of me, Uncle Joe!"

As Joey thought this, he suddenly vanished from his spot.
