Chapter 21 Orc Invasion

"This is it!"

The next morning, Joey dragged the bearded man to Catherine's residence.

"The places where important people live are indeed different!"

Looking at the small manor, the bearded man couldn't help but sigh.

Even Joey was somewhat surprised. When he first saw the manor, he thought it was some kind of institution in the outpost, but he didn't expect it to be just where Catherine slept.

"The lives of the rich are indeed colorful!"

He couldn't help but sigh, looking at the small manor built entirely of white stones, which seemed completely out of place in this military outpost.

As soon as they reached the iron gate outside the manor, they were stopped by two heavily armored female soldiers.

Yes, the guards of this manor are all female soldiers, who I heard were brought by Catherine from Ashfury City. They only obey Catherine's orders.

"Joey, those two female soldiers have as big butts as big as that female Delaney's!"

The bearded man moved closer to Joey and spoke softly.

"Yes, I just checked it myself, and they're definitely evenly matched!"

Joey gave a professional fake smile.

"Ladies, we were sent by Captain Pouf. The orcs could attack at any moment, so we need to send more people here!"

Joey explained his purpose, stating that he had a letter of appointment and was not afraid of these two making things difficult for him.

"Just you guys?"

A female soldier looked Joey and the bearded man up and down, appearing somewhat distrustful.

This is not her fault. These female soldiers are under Catherine's command and do not participate in Puff's daily roll call at the training ground. Moreover, they eat and drink separately from the soldiers on their side, so they do not know Joey and Big Beard, two newcomers who are already making a name for themselves at the outpost.

"It really was the two of us!"

Joey was sincere and did not want to have a conflict with the two female soldiers.

"Then you all wait here, I'll go and inform Lady Catherine!"

After speaking, the female soldier walked into the manor.

Joey nodded, walked to the other side of the iron gate, and waited quietly.

Ten minutes later.

The female soldier responsible for reporting returned to the iron gate of the manor.

"Right? I told you, this outpost can't be full of scruffy guys, there have to be a few beautiful women like you!"

"Hehehe, you really know how to talk!"

"..."

At this moment, Joey was not quietly waiting at the door, but was already chatting away with another female soldier who was left behind. She was amused by Joey's words and laughed heartily.

The female soldier who had just returned frowned, and her eyes instantly filled with hostility as she looked at Joey.

"Ahem, ahem, I'm on guard duty, don't mess around!"

"Lady Catherine asked, are you so-and-so, the person she picked up a few days ago?"

The female soldier looked at Joey and relayed Catherine's words.

“My name is Joey, I have a name, and I wasn’t picked up by Lady Catherine, she invited me!”

Joey still wanted to fight for his identity.

"Then you are not the person Lady Catherine was talking about. Please leave immediately!"

After the female soldier finished speaking, she drew her sword from her waist.

Upon seeing this, the other female soldier immediately became serious and looked at Joey and the bearded man warily.

"Okay, I'll stop pretending, I confess!"

"Yes, I am so-and-so, the one Lady Catherine picked up!"

Joey didn't want the job he'd worked so hard to get in exchange for a barrel of wine worth 200 silver coins to fall through, so he quickly changed his tune.

"Hmph, serves you right for not saying so sooner!"

"Lady Catherine has instructed that from now on, the two of you will be in charge of the sentry post at the gate. Furthermore, you are not allowed to enter the manor without her permission!"

The female soldier continued to relay Catherine's message, but she was still quite pleased to see Joey's attempt fail.

"Okay, we understand!"

Although Joey was a little annoyed, he didn't show it.

The two female soldiers left together.

"Joey, I feel like this job is worse than sleeping in the dorm all day."

The bearded man was clearly dissatisfied with his job as a gatekeeper and couldn't help but ask Joey a question.

"I've saved you decades of detours. This is a community security guard's job, the least stressful job in the world!"

Although Joey said that, he was somewhat dissatisfied. He had originally planned to be Catherine's personal bodyguard, but he didn't expect to be assigned to guard the gate.

He was already silently praying that the orc army would arrive soon, so that his decision would appear extremely wise.

To Joey's disappointment, three more days had passed, and the orcs' attack still hadn't arrived.

"Big Beard, you keep an eye on things here, I'm going for a stroll!"

Joey and the bearded man stood at the manor gate, bored. Fortunately, after getting used to the environment for a few days, they could find nothing wrong with the job except for the boredom. Since they arrived, Catherine had never interfered with their affairs, but naturally, they had never seen Catherine either.

Having stood for quite a while, Joey stretched and told the bearded man to watch the place for a bit while he decided to take a stroll.

The bearded man agreed, and he never had any objections to these things, which was one of his most outstanding qualities.

After leaving Catherine's residence, Joey wandered around and soon arrived at the gate of the village.

On the watchtower, there was still the same archer who had let him and the bearded man into the village gate, but now he was very familiar with Joey.

"Joey, when can Sam get some more alcohol?"

The archer waved to Joey and asked with a smile.

"I don't know, it's probably unlikely!"
