"Ah...ha..."
Joey stretched and a blanket slid down his chest.
"Um?"
Joey quickly grabbed the blanket.
He didn't remember covering himself with this blanket before going to bed last night.
He grabbed the blanket and brought it to his nose to smell it.
"It smells so good, so delicious! This is exactly the smell!"
"This silly girl has actually learned to take care of people. Has she realized how good I am to her and is interested in me?"
Joey's mind raced with daydreams, and his mouth watered uncontrollably.
The scent on the blanket was from Catherine, who must have put it on Joey in the middle of the night, making Joey feel overjoyed and lost in thought.
Joey composed herself, looked at the sunlight streaming in through the window, grabbed the blanket, and got up to walk towards the hotel entrance.
"You're up?"
The old woman from last night was mopping the floor in front of the door with a wet mop. When she saw Joey coming over, she greeted him.
Good morning, grandma!
Joey greeted him warmly, draping a blanket over her shoulders to keep the fragrance in her good mood all morning.
"How much is the room rate? I'll pay it now. My wife hasn't woken up yet, let her sleep a little longer!"
Joey felt a surge of pride, and the word "lover" came out exceptionally smoothly.
Does this count as taking advantage? Probably not, since she didn't hear it anyway.
The old woman stopped what she was doing, put the mop into the bucket, scrubbed her body vigorously with both hands, and then held up two fingers to Joey.
"Twenty copper coins!"
Do you need breakfast prepared?
Perhaps feeling that Joey and the others had worked hard last night and needed to replenish their nutrition, she asked another question.
Joey assumed the old woman wanted to earn more money, so he handed her a silver coin and agreed, telling her to wait until Catherine woke up and then see what was going on.
He walked straight out of the inn. The old woman only told him not to go too far from the village alone to avoid danger, and then took the mop out of the bucket and continued mopping the floor.
Joey was puzzled. He hadn't met anyone else at the hotel since last night, not only other travelers but also the old woman's husband and children.
He left the hotel and, before Catherine woke up, planned to buy some supplies. After all, if he didn't want to stop for supplies along the way, he would need to prepare more items.
The village isn't big, and the general store was easy to find; it didn't take much time.
Although the general store didn't sell a wide variety of items, it had all the basic supplies, which didn't bother Joey.
The grocery store I just visited only had an old woman there; I didn't see anyone else in her household.
But this didn't arouse Joey's strong curiosity, at least the village seemed quite normal on the surface.
In less than half an hour.
Joey was already carrying supplies taller than his head and heading towards the hotel.
"Uncle, are you a paladin?"
Suddenly, a childish voice came from in front of Joey.
Because the supplies Joey was carrying were too high, he tried several angles but couldn't immediately see who the voice belonged to.
"Uncle, are you a paladin?"
The sound came again, and this time it was much closer.
Joey put down the supplies and looked up to see which little cutie was calling her.
"uncle!"
A small figure suddenly jumped out from behind the placed supplies.
This is a little girl, about seven or eight years old, with blonde hair flowing down her back and a pink mushroom-shaped hair clip on her forehead.
She blinked her innocent blue eyes, waiting expectantly for Joey's answer.
Do you think I look like a paladin?
Joey crouched down again, looked into the little girl's eyes, adopted the demeanor of a friendly neighbor, and asked her a question.
“My mother said that paladins always carry a longsword at their waist, which is a gift from the God of Light. Paladins use this longsword to show us the blessings of the God of Light!”
After the little girl finished speaking, she stared intently at the long sword hanging on Joey's waist, her eyes filled with reverence.
Joey glanced at the longsword at his waist, then at the adorable little girl in front of him, and said with a smile, "Yes, I am the paladin you are looking for, but don't call me uncle, just call me big brother!"
After Joey finished speaking, he reached out his right hand and gently patted the little girl's head.
Joey was unwilling to extinguish the light in the eyes of a strange little girl; that would be too cruel. He figured that by pretending to be a paladin and doing good deeds, the God of Light probably wouldn't mind.
Joey thought the matter with the little girl was over and planned to return to the hotel.
He stood up, just about to pick up the supplies he had just bought and leave, when suddenly he felt a warmth in his left hand. A slender little hand had already grasped his little finger.
"Big brother Paladin, can you help me find my father?"
"My father has been missing for over a year. My mother said that when the paladin comes, he can help me find him!"
"I really miss him!"
As the little girl spoke, her eyes reddened, and tears began to stream down her face.
This put Joey in a difficult position. He had only pretended to be a paladin because he couldn't bear to disappoint the little girl. But if he really helped her find her father, who had been missing for a year, it wouldn't be an easy task.
