Chapter 74 Ancient God? Just a Big-Headed Doll

"Sam, what is Captain Joey doing?"

Sergeant Medes had found the bearded man's hiding place. The team was less than 100 meters away from him. He had not yet received orders from Joey and did not intend to launch an attack.

He slowly walked to the bearded man's side, observed the situation ahead, and frowned, wondering what Joey was up to.

"I have no idea!"

"Joey just told me to wait here and play it by ear!"

The bearded man's eyes were clear, and he kept staring at Joey without moving, so it was unclear whether he truly understood the meaning of the phrase "act according to circumstances."

"What just happened? How did Captain Joey end up near that group of kobolds all by himself? And these ruthless kobolds completely ignored him and didn't chop him into mincemeat?"

Sergeant Medes had dealt with these kobolds before. These guys were a bunch of dimwits, but they were also reckless when they charged into battle, and they had caused his company and even Commander Zoro quite a bit of trouble.

He didn't think Joey could be friends with them.

The bearded man didn't look away, but still recounted Joey's conversation with the kobold.

"What?"

"Captain Joey can speak kobolds?"

"As far as I know, there are no more than a handful of Grand Scholars in the entire continent of Budalas who can speak the language of kobolds and horns!"

Sergeant Medes understood the status of Grand Scholars throughout the continent of Budalas. The king and other city lords held these learned men in high esteem. The knowledge and learning contained in their heads were beyond the reach of ordinary people, and they could provide extremely important information and advice to the rulers of this continent.

Their third company's captain, Joey, actually showed the potential to become a Grand Scholar, which thrilled him.

“Joey knows a lot of languages. He knows Orcish, Draenei, and I think he knows others too. He just hasn’t met any of those races yet, otherwise he would definitely be able to chat with them!”

The bearded man was extremely impressed with Joey's abilities. Although he didn't have many words to praise others, just describing Joey's skills was enough to amaze everyone else.

Orcish? Draenei?

"My God, who exactly am I, the acting captain of this company?"

Sergeant Medes watched Joey's back as he stood among the dog-headed crowd, a strong curiosity rising within him, while at the same time he felt fortunate that his company had such an excellent captain.

"No need to be so surprised. Joey said that what he's going to do in the future will definitely shock me even more!"

"As for who he really is, I really don't know. I only know that he often says he is just a 'four-good' youth, but I don't know what those four qualities are!"

The bearded man wasn't that cunning; when Sergeant Medes asked, he told him everything he knew.

Sergeant Medes nodded as he watched Joey's retreating figure. He had already made up his mind that he had to get along well with this invaluable acting captain. He saw unlimited potential in Joey.

He is intelligent, possesses considerable martial prowess, has knowledge comparable to a Grand Scholar, and has the courage to venture alone into the territory of the kobolds. His personal charisma is simply irresistible; following him will always bring you benefits.

Choice is more important than effort; this is Sergeant Medes's professional survival rule.

Joey watched as the kobold priest held up the dog skin and fiddled with it a few more times, then suddenly raised it above his head and mumbled a string of words in a language Joey couldn't understand at all.

The kobolds gathered around, but ignored Joey completely, as if this alien human, whom they called a four-legged sheep, was completely invisible.

"Does this mean they look down on me, or are they really about to do something big?"

Joey touched his chin, feeling a little disappointed that he was being ignored by the kobolds.

My personal heroism hasn't even been fully unleashed yet, and I'm already being ignored. I'm really unhappy.

"Hey, priests, what exactly are you doing? Can you explain this to a passing traveler like me?"

Joey suddenly shouted at the priest holding a dog skin in the pack of dogs.

"Does Captain Joey have some new plan this time?"

Sergeant Medes was completely taken aback by Joey's sudden shout, thinking that Joey had come up with some new plan to deal with the kobolds.

However, he had indeed misunderstood Joey this time. Joey hadn't thought much about it; he just wanted to shout and get the attention he deserved.

"You filthy human, you'd better stay where you are. When the ancient god comes out, you will be the first sacrifice we offer!"

The priest turned and glanced at Joey, then threw the dog skin in his hand directly into the fire in front of him.

boom!

The flames suddenly shot up very high, which was not at all like the effect that the dog skin could have had.

"Using me as a sacrifice? It seems they haven't ignored me after all!"

Upon hearing the priest's words, Joey became happy again.

It feels good to be valued, even if it's the kind of value that makes you want to die.

The flames were still rising, and in the middle of the flames, a huge dog's head was revealed.

Judging from the size of the dog's head, the dog-headed man in the flames must be a giant about six meters tall.

Hey, there really is an ancestor of the kobolds.

Joey wasn't afraid of him and walked straight towards the fire.

The kobolds along the way made way for Joey, as if Joey were their ancient god.
