"Is this for me?"
Leighing the two heavy gold stones in his hands, Leigh asked Joey somewhat uncertainly.
"Yes, it is indeed for you, if you'd like to accept it!"
"Of course, what I want to say is, I'm certainly willing to accept it!"
"Furthermore, what exactly is this business you're talking about?"
Leighs put the gold stone into his arms, which stretched his clothes high.
Although he was in charge of the tobacco business, which was a lucrative job, he was, after all, just someone working for the city lord. Although he also pocketed some of it each year, those two lumps of gold were far more valuable than what he could earn through his own stinginess.
"You don't need to do anything, just lend me that idle smelting furnace in the tobacco field!"
"I'll pay you rent, 100 gold coins a month!"
After Joey finished speaking, he looked into Leigh's eyes. After all, at this point in the conversation, he was also a little worried about being rejected by Leigh.
Although the temptation is great, there's no guarantee that some people will remain loyal to the Lord!
"Aren't you worried that I'll tell the city lord what you just said?"
Hey, this looks promising!
If Leggins had simply called the guards at the door, there would have been no point in discussing the deal today. But he didn't. Instead, he chose to ask Joey a question that wasn't even a question.
"I'm not worried. I believe Lord Leakins is a smart man and wouldn't do something so foolish!"
Joey was mostly relieved, and was just waiting for Leigh's final confirmation.
Was someone following you on your way here?
This is the honest answer Leaks most wants from Joey, and it will determine whether the deal can actually be finalized.
After a moment's thought, Joey stood up and walked over to Leggins.
"Someone was following her, it was that female ghost, but she didn't make a move, she just left!"
"They didn't make a move? They left?"
Leighing back on the sofa, with his hands resting on the backrest, Leigh sighed in relief.
"Lan isn't a talkative person. Undead are a type of dead person too, and they're pretty tight-lipped!"
Thinking of this, Leigh Kings suddenly sat up straight.
He bent down and poured another cup of hot tea on the long table in front of him.
He picked up the cup of tea and handed it to Joey, while also picking up his own teacup and gently raising it.
"I wish us a successful collaboration!"
Joey took the teacup and lifted it slightly as well.
"It will definitely go very smoothly!"
...
It was already evening when Joey returned to the Carter family's workshop.
The two had a pleasant conversation at Leggins' place. Afterwards, Leggins took him to see the abandoned smelter and also to stroll around the tobacco fields, where they met many Draenei.
"Joey, you're back! Martha's father has been waiting for you for so long!"
As soon as Joey arrived at the workshop, he pulled the bearded man guarding the door into the house.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
Joey found it strange; everything was fine when she went out, but the atmosphere felt off as soon as she came back.
“I don’t know either. A dwarf named Camito came by today. Martha said he was his uncle, and we had breakfast together!”
“Everything was normal until Camito left. After that, Martha’s father became very anxious and kept waiting for you to come back.”
It was truly impressive that the bearded man was able to explain the whole story to Joey so quickly.
"Okay, I understand. I'll go see Carter first. You go keep Martha company!"
After Joey finished speaking, he walked toward Carter's room.
But the bearded man didn't leave; instead, he followed Joey.
Seeing Joey turn around and look at him, the bearded man looked aggrieved. "I've tried my best. There's really not a drop left. I think it's better for me to stay with you."
Joey gave a bitter smile to himself.
What exactly happened during the day he was away that made the bearded man feel so wronged?
However, as a man, he still felt quite sorry for the bearded man. After all, the bearded man had already entered married life, and he understood the saying that some people are suffering from both abundance and scarcity.
"Alright, alright, come with me to see Carter!"
Joey called out to the bearded man, whose previously aggrieved expression immediately brightened.
The two walked together toward Carter's room.
Knock knock knock!
"Cartel, it's me, Joey, I'm back!"
"Come in, the door's unlocked!"
Joey pushed open the door and went inside, with the bearded man following closely behind.
Carter was standing at a square table with a map spread out on it, and he was looking at the information on the map by candlelight.
Joey walked to the square table and stared at the map on it.
This is a map of the continent of Budalas, with more than a dozen locations marked on it by the pen held by Cartel.
"This is……"
Although Joey had guessed something, he still looked up at Carter.
Carter didn't look up, but he could feel Joey's gaze. His hands didn't stop either, still wandering around the map, probably looking for other locations to mark.
“I just want Martha to have a good life, but I don’t intend to let her die. Besides, I want to see Baikanburg again while I’m still alive, and I can’t really die here!”
"But if you mark so many locations at once, it must be a hassle to select them, right?"
Joey understood the implication in Carter's words and casually asked him a question.
"I won't let Martha die. Although I'm a bit overwhelmed, I'll make sure she lives a good life!"
